I think Mike G. has nailed it. With the new windowed zoom in ios 8, neither bar works after you use the zoom, however if you change the zoom to use the old full screen zoom, which is nowhere near as nice, it will work. I guess you have to pick which feature is more important to you. I elected full screen zoom with the notification bars working. Hopefully Apple fixes this because the windowed zoom is much nicer.

I do have the SAME problem on an iPhone 6 running 8.0.2. I checked and this is NOT a problem on my old iPhone 4S running iOS 8.0.2, only on the iPhone 6.

As suggested, turning OFF the Accessibility ZOOM solved the problem for me as well. (iOS 8.0.2 iPhone 6)...Hope this issue is fixed soon because the Zoom feature is very helpful.

Thanks for posting the termporary fix !

I have had the control center trays crashing and requiring a phone restart to work multiple times a day on iOS 8. I have not had this frustrating problem on iOS 7. Well, it turns out I was over-using the new, fun, magnifying glass accessibility feature. Upon reading this article and testing, I found that using the mag glass just a few times and switching apps causes the control centers to crash. The solution I found is simple: If you like magnifying like I do for full-screen photos, battery-meter, and movies but need the control center trays, just use full screen zoom and avoid the magnifying glass. Also: I found a fun tip while testing this app: On iOS 8. if you three-finger-tap three times, it will pull up the magnification options. Have fun with magnification: a lesser-known, but excellently programmed feature and say goodbye to borders !

Hi,

Not sure if it was a one-off or not, but I was able to get the control centre to appear simply by double-tapping with three fingers to bring up the little magnifying glass and then double-tapping with three fingers again, to dismiss the magnifying glass. After that, I was able to display both notification and control centres without having to change any settings.

Thanks for this post. Upon testing, I found that you're right: Simply three-finger tapping and making the windowed-magnifying glass appear / disappear again will make the control centers work properly again (with no further steps or reboot needed). Really, this is conveniently handlable, it's just that the magnification glass and control center drawers seem so unrelated, it really took reading this forum before I could figure out what was wrong.
