Why can't I download or update apps on iPad running iOS 8

Remove the WSJ app from your iPad and the apps will continue to download the updates.

@Brian Rowland, after removing the WSJ app, did you close all apps and hard reset (hold both buttons on startup)?

Dont have the WSJ but have all the other symptoms and 60 iPads playing hard to get 😠

Just tried the turn off Wifi , shut down , wait 30s, turn back on, wait 2 min and turn wifi back on and its cleared it on this first machine. Yay!

Spent hours on the phone this week with Apple Support getting at least two levels up, everyone claiming they never heard of this issue. I just deleted the Wall Street Journal App, did a hard reset, and that resolved it--at least for the moment. (iPad Air and 8.0.2)

I Had several apps waiting To download while I was connected to wifi and couldn't get them to proceed. What finally got them to unpasteurized was opening iTunes app scrolling to bottom tapping my Apple ID and signing out. I did a reset after that just to say I did and then I went back into iTunes and signed in. Apps automatically resumed as normal

Second machine 8.0 worked until it then hit something that wanted the 8.0.1 then stopped again 😟

I have an iPhone 5 (Japan) and an iPad Mini (1st gen/US) both of them do not update apps, download songs or stream podcasts. When I try to update apps or download anything from iTunes on my gaming PC I get an error message saying it could not connect to iTunes (even though I'm able to go to iTunes and find that certain application). This is ridiculous!

Just got my iPad mini today and I am experiencing the same problem of not being able to download anything from the app store after updating the iOS 😢

Finally I found a solution: there was in the Podcast app a stream (from a newspaper audio) which wanted a login.

I deleted this podcast - in the same moment apps started to update.

So maybe you can have a look for any streaming thing ...

Had the same problem with my Iphone 5 running IOS 8.0.2. No app updates. I think that the reason is the podcast app. If you open the app you will see that auto updates is turned on in the app even if you have generally turned it of in the settings of Itunes/ Appstore. I did the following steps:

Go to Settings and enter your password in Itunes and App Store. Enable auto update so that you can disable auto update for the podcast app. Disable auto update for each other app at the same time.

Open the podcast app and turn podcast updates to manual and only on wlan. (I don' t know if the last step (wlan only) is necessary) and close the podcast app.

Next Step: Soft Reset.

Go to the Appstore app and try if updates are downloaded now. (You''ll have to enter your password again).

This worked for me.

I have the same problem, can't update any applications. The last update was on Sept 22, and I have two waiting that I can't update. I'm running IOS 8.0.2

This iPad is my first Apple device, and if this is the famed Apple reliability, it'll be my last! In searching on IOS8 issues, I see reams of issues with this release. How did they ever let this one get out the door??? 😠

Apps won't update, Zinio freezes, Evernote crashes.

Delete WSJ app. Restart. All is well.

Reload WSJ all seems ok. 2 days later Zinio freezes, Evernote crashes.

Delete WSJ, restart. Working again.

WIll not reload WSJ this time hope iPad Air works for more than 2 days.

I've tried everything too for the past days and nothing works. Deleted the wsj app and now everything's back to normal. Hope it remain this way, tks dave for pointing me to this thread.

I don't have the WSJ application on mine and it still has the issue. I deleted most of my apps and waited overnight after a couple of reboots, and the waiting applications would finally update. I loaded the applications back up, but I suspect that ridiculous cycle will have to be repeated. 😟
