Why can't I download or update apps on iPad running iOS 8

Updated my iPad Air to iOS 8. Apps requiring updates and any new app downloads I tried on my iPad Air have been sitting in wait status for hours. I did the following to try to correct the problem but with no success...

- Turned off and restarted the ipad

- reset the iPad without losing previous data

- signed out of iTunes account and signed back in.

My cellular and wifi router are working fine. My iPhone 5 update and iPad mini updates to ios8 worked fine and new apps and any updates are downloading without any problems. I have auto download turned in for apps so when I initiate an app download on my iPad Air, it downloads fine onto my iPad mini even though it is "hung up" on my iPad Air.

Is there anything else I should try before taking the radical step of wiping clean my iPad Air?

Deleting the WSJ App solved my problems also.

STEPS

Updated 28 apps via MAC iTunes since they were hung.

Reset multiple times. Updates, CNBC, NextIssue still hung.

Reset again. Loaded NextIssue and CNBC - still hung. Update shows 2 apps hung updating.

Deleted WSJ.

SUCCESS

CNBC works. NextIssue Works. Apps updating.

Previously only wipe and restore worked then problem occurred again after 3 days.

There is a big flaw in the IOS 8 software and the apps get stuck updating. To fix this you should shut off the wifi on the iPad and then shut off the iPad itself completely. Wait 30 seconds and then restart the iPad. Then wait about 2 minutes and turn the wifi back on. You will begin to see the apps start updating. I think that Apple is trying to frustrate and test us--but we always seem to figure it out. This would have never happened if Steve Jobs were still running the show.

One more vote for removing the WSJ App. I tried pretty much everything else: hard resets, fiddling with auto update settings, various magic tapping combos. Removing the WSJ app fixed the problem immediately. Absolutely stunning. As an iOS app developer (for fun) I'd love to know what caused this. While I'm at it, I hated the changes to the WSJ app that came with iOS 8 anyhow, so I'm happy to be rid of it. They picked a bad time for my subscription to expire.

Remove all the Apps that are stuck from your iPad. (You can download them again after the problem is fixed. Write down on a piece of paper all the apps that you deleted.) Then shut off the WIFI and shut off the iPad. Then restart it. You probably have an App that has the same problem as the WSJ app, but most people do not have on their iPad.

When you start downloading the apps again--do them one by one. The problem app may give you trouble again and you will see which one it is.
