Why can't I download or update apps on iPad running iOS 8

I had the problem on my iPad starting 29 Sep. Deleted Wall Street Journal app in Newsstand, did hard reboot and now everything works, including app updates, podcasts using podcast app, etc. I noticed WSJ on my iPhone was stuck on 21 Sep which appears when the problem started for some. All systems up!

Wow..this worked for me... Deleted the WSJ app in Newstand, did a hard reboot, and now can download. Had done many hard resets before but didn't work.

Could it be the WSJ app? I'll hold off reinstalling that for now.

ChipAppleID, I don't think it's the WSJ app. I've had mine installed the entire time and had no issues with that app. Like I posted before, the update function just started working against after a hard reset. I think Apple finally figured out what was wrong on their end and luckily did not have to push a new iOS update to fix this.

If Apple fixed it, then they fixed it in the last 30 min or so because I've been playing with this for an hour or so with many hard resets.

It's fixed for Me. Hard reset then all works. Did not need to delete WSJ app. Had the problem since September 23rd with none of the fixes working until now with just a simple hard reset. keeping fingers crossed that it does not return. Thanks to everyone on this forum.

My experience exactly. Wipe and Restore equals 3 days.

Resets don't work for me.

Problem with 8.0.2 and previous versions.

Oh this is so weird. Last night I updated apps on my mac, and voila the problem on my ipad seems to have resolved itself. Apps updated, magazines could download, etc. I didn't reset, didn't sync, didn't do anything at all with the ipad. Maybe the mac updating was a coincidence, because others have noted the issue resolved for them last night too.

My issues seem to be resolved for the moment as well. Hopefully it stays this way

Glad to see that many people have finally got the issue resolved. I have an iPad air, 32 GB, and experienced the unable to update apps problem right after installing ios8. My problem got solved with just turning off auto update and signing in to the app store first, before going to the update page. No problem since then, and able to update to 8.0 .2 the usual way. But I'm noticing a trend. I have absolutely no apps that are subscriptions and require downloads. no magazines, no newspapers or news apps. I don't use music or media much on my iPad, just YouTube, use my Kindle app for books and don't really bother with iBooks. Very little crossover with my phone. Probably just my Kindle app. And that's always work fine. If you're wondering what I do use it for, photos, image editing, playing some games, and artists apps, drawing, painting stuff like that. But I notice a lot of people who still have problems have mentioned problems with subscription and downloads. Wondering if there is something going on that is causing hangups in that area?

I agree with the posts above about the WSJ app. Nothing worked for me until I deleted that app from newstand, then closed all programs, turned off wifi, hard reboot. Then once back on, entered PIN, turned on wifi, opened app store, and it worked. Good luck. This was really a pain.

What looks like so weird is that Apple did not give a single word about anything. They are the most selfish and vain people I had ever worked with.

I may guess many of us here work and deal with clients, both side. Would you ever think about taking care of a client this way?!

Fixed! iPad Apps Begin To Update Again!

ios 8.02 32 Gig iPad 3 Apps would not update. At suggestions somewhere in this thread, Thank You, removed new Wall Street Journal app, rebooted, and all is now working. 15 waiting Apps updated.

As an aside the Wall Street Journal should be embarrassed about quality of their iPad app. It gets worse with each iteration. The new app was almost unreadable, has less content such as the Mansion and Real Estate sections missing, an is full of advertising despite the high subscription cost.

TThanks, Bill. Been tearing my hair out. Deleted WSJ app, rebooted, and all is good with the world again. I should have thought of this .... WSJ app has been buggy for a long time. But this one tops them all. 😟

Wow. Removed WSJ on my iPad Mini Retina running 8.0.2, restarted and look at this. 26 apps are updating. If only I would have removed this app last week I wouldn't have created a non-backup version.

No apps to update at the moment, but deleting the WSJ app let the New Yorker start downloading again, so I think you nailed the problem, Like others, I have ipad Air, different app store and iCloud ids, and two-factor id on iCloud but not app store
