Why can't I download or update apps on iPad running iOS 8

Updated my iPad Air to iOS 8. Apps requiring updates and any new app downloads I tried on my iPad Air have been sitting in wait status for hours. I did the following to try to correct the problem but with no success...

- Turned off and restarted the ipad

- reset the iPad without losing previous data

- signed out of iTunes account and signed back in.

My cellular and wifi router are working fine. My iPhone 5 update and iPad mini updates to ios8 worked fine and new apps and any updates are downloading without any problems. I have auto download turned in for apps so when I initiate an app download on my iPad Air, it downloads fine onto my iPad mini even though it is "hung up" on my iPad Air.

Is there anything else I should try before taking the radical step of wiping clean my iPad Air?

I am also having this issue with my iPad Air running 8.0.2 and happy to know it's not just me. Worked for a couple of days and then stopped. Tried the less radical solutions and nothing has worked for me. I'm sure if I wipe and restore it will work again for a few days. Until a fix, I'll just sync via my mac pro. That doesn't work however when I'm traveling and away from home.

Hum... Try connecting with a new @me. Well... It does not solve any of your problems, but it may let you download iTunes content, at least. Heitor N Simão Jr

While I continue to try all of the suggestions listed here I still have no luck. I have updated numerous apps via my Mac but the ones completed between September 23 and today do not show up in the completed list. The apps that are updated on a give day do show up under the Pending Updates (see picture below). I worked with Apple for 30 plus minutes and they suggest a total wipe or go to the Genius Bar. I hope Apple will come out with a fix soon because I am unable to download any of my newspaper subscription, use Zino for my magazines, Numbers spreadsheets, Itunes music or media.

I am having a similar issue, but I had believed it was related to enabling 2-step verification and I made a new post before reading this.

I am curious for all those out there having an issue. Do all of you use separate accounts for iTunes and icloud. I have done this for a while with no issue (and still do on my phone) due to issues dating back to MobileMe.

Also, have you enabled 2-step verification of your accounts? I have for the iCloud account, but not the iTunes account (which is what the apps are tied to). In fact, I had enabled the verification right before this began, which is why I assumed they were related.

Additionally, I have noticed something else. I can stream my movie and music (Match) purchases, but I cannot download. Is this common to you?

My issue is with an iPad (4th gen) running 8.0.2

I was able to download one app after resetting all settings, but then the issue immediately reared up again.

interesting thoughts.

i use my icloud/mobileme/.mac account for "cloud" applications (photos, notes, reminders, iWork, etc...) and a different email for App Store and iTunes purchases. i have not enabled 2-factor login for either account.

like you i cannot download any iTunes content but can stream it.

are you having any issues with apps that use a shell (like newsstand, zinnio, ibooks) but won't download the content to the shell? or, are you having any issues with any accounts that are dependent on some flavor of sync (like evernote) that is not working?

i think we're getting closer to at least isolating the issues....

That's interesting that you are also using different accounts. Hopefully some more will chime in one way or the other to see if this is the common thread.

To answer your questions:

I am unable to download previous purchases from iBooks. I wanted to check a 3rd party app, but the only one I could think of that I subscribe to is WSJ, and it is currently awaiting an update and cannot be opened.

I am able to sync my dropbox account if that helps.

i can download WSJ and NYT but not the NY Post, Cook's Illustrated, Cook's Country or Men's Journal - that's the extent of my newsstand subs. I *can* download kindle books but not ibooks...

i did a spot check of all of my TV Station downloads (NBC, ABC, ESPN, Travel Channel, HBOgo, 60 minutes, etc...) and they all seemed to work ok. most of them are made by a company called bottle rocket so their CMS is somehow circumventing this issue.

i believe this has something to do with how content is fed into a particular template/shell that apple is using (although this does not explain why evernote doesn't work for me!). i don't know enough about IOS or how the app store app itself works but maybe app updates are fed into the same type of template/shell within the app store application itself. make sense?

After reading your post I did a little more testing.

Amazon Instant Video app is not downloading, but will stream, much like Apple's videos app. I thought this was surprising, because no purchases are actually made through this app. Aside from downloading the app itself, it is not tied to my Apple account in any way.

iCloud sync features seem to be OK. I used the notes app and it synced to my iphone.

I am able to open .pdf files from email (luckily), and open them in iBooks.

I also use two separate IDs for iCloud and iTunes. My iCloud account has two-factor authentication but my iTunes account does not.

iPad Air 64GB running 8.0.2.

I tried logging into iTunes with the same ID as I use for iCloud (which actually ended up creating a new iTunes ID. I don't think they are linked from a payment perspective.). I still could not download any new apps.

Last night I updated the WSJ app via sycing via Mac. Interestingly, it still shows as needing updating on my iPad.
