Why can't I download or update apps on iPad running iOS 8

Updated my iPad Air to iOS 8. Apps requiring updates and any new app downloads I tried on my iPad Air have been sitting in wait status for hours. I did the following to try to correct the problem but with no success...

- Turned off and restarted the ipad

- reset the iPad without losing previous data

- signed out of iTunes account and signed back in.

My cellular and wifi router are working fine. My iPhone 5 update and iPad mini updates to ios8 worked fine and new apps and any updates are downloading without any problems. I have auto download turned in for apps so when I initiate an app download on my iPad Air, it downloads fine onto my iPad mini even though it is "hung up" on my iPad Air.

Is there anything else I should try before taking the radical step of wiping clean my iPad Air?

Didn't have wsj app I did at one point turn off auto updates and did a hard restore. That worked, but after that had more updates and back to the same old thing. So I turned auto updates back on, signed into App Store tried to update, still nothing. So I just let it go didn't sign out of App Store and a while later everything updated haven't had a problem since. Hopefully it will stay that way.

I signed out of itunes & apps in the Settings, then returned to the App store and tapped on an update (Kindle). The circle started to spin, but it has been spinning waaaay too long and I suspect it is just spinning and not actually updating the software. My iPad was updating automatically until Oct 2. Is there anyway to find out what day I downgraded from 7 to 8?

if it was on the 2nd, then the problem is iOS 8, if before that, then one of the apps upgraded on the 2nd may be the issue.

And will someone please tell me where newstand is? From posts, it sounds like it is something Apple preloads on all devices, but I cannot find it. Not that it would help much, as I do not subscribe to any news outlets. I do subscribe to podcasts, maybe I should delete that app?

One would think that a bug that prevents people from purchasing Apps would be fixed pdq. At this point, after quitting everything, restarting, and logging back into iTunes & Apps, my ipad just pretends to be downloading purchases and updates. Hours later, the wheels still spin. It is a Kindle update, it shouldn't be taking days to download.... The app I bought yesterday that won't load was free, which probably doesn't count, but I sure won't be trying to make any purchases, be it apps, games, music, or movies.

Guys I found the solution besides deleting the wsj app! Since me myself doesn't have wsj app, I tried looking for another solution. I found out it has something to do with those newly updated magazines in our newsstand! After deleting those 2 recently updated magazines (w/c I think has the same publisher), signed in, restart all those freezing updates/downloads, it began working again! I just don't know if this problem is really caused by those magazines like wsj etc.

Oh and of course we can't delete the newstand app guys. 🙂 The problem is inside the newsstand, not the newsstand itself.

I have never used Newsstand. Nothing in there, nothing to delete. This is not the 'problem', it is a symptom. if you subscribe to certain apps again, the problem resurfaces.I am not happy that it works for people who do use newsstand, because it leaves the rest of us stranded, when you declare it fixes the problem. It only fixes it for you, aand only confirms that an App we can't delete is useless.

I, too, tried several approaches to resolve this issue but to no avail. Then I simply removed the WSJ app from News Stand, did a hard reset, and all is working. I *think* this occurred at the time I installed the NYT Cooking app, so I suspect as others have mentioned that it is a fundamental subscription app related issue. I currently still have the NYT Cooking app installed as well as a magazine or two in News Stand along with the NYT app. All appears to work.

Note that in addition to app updates not working, I could not load any app from the app store, and my Numbers documents would not sync to iCloud. Now it appears everything is working.

So while it may not be the WSJ app alone (and others are seeing the issue without having that app installed), I find myself wondering if I will really miss the ongoing frustration that app has caused me over the past years...maybe I will try it again sometime, maybe not.

Thank you VERY much for those that suggested the WSJ removal fix!
