HI All,
It appears that there are two versions of the same problem here in regards to not being able to download or update apps from the App Store since the iOS 8 update. There are those who have been affected by the WSJ app (and therefore have hopefully found a solution), and those like myself who have the problem but do not actually and never have downloaded the WSJ app.
Like my fellow peers on this thread I have had download/update problems (over WiFi) with my iPad 3 since the iOS 8 update, and even updating it further with 8.0.2 has done absolutely nothing to rectify the download problem. And like many peers, I have tried everything I can think of to solve the problem but without any permanent success. (I now wish I was quick enough to act in reverting back to iOS 7). These include:
-Signing Out and then In again into my iTunes account.
-Resetting Network as well as All settings.
-Checked to see that I haven't got any other apps downloading content in the background.
-And yes, in all my ongoing frustrations, I have even restored my iPad to new factory settings and tried reloading content back onto to it!!!!
However, I have noticed a couple of things in my situation and these include the following:
-Whenever I soft or hard reset the iPad, downloads and updates through the App store will occur again but will do so for so long before the problem returns again. I had 10 apps that needed updating but the process stopped 5 or 6 apps into it and I had to reset the iPad again to finish the rest, which is a real pain and inconvenience. Also, these updates or downloads must be done as soon as the iPad reboots and within a small 5-10 minute window or else the problem presents itself again and any attempted downloads 'hang'.
-I have also noticed that the red coloured number notification sign which normally pops up over the App store icon, to let you know an update is available for an app or apps, now ceases to provide this notification. It isn't until you actually go into the App Store app and select 'Updates' from the bottom that you then told you have so many updates available for download.
Like I said, having to reset the iPad each time I need to download or update something is a real pain. I have now been doing this on iTunes through my notebook, but let's face it, it's not anywhere near as convenient as over the WiFi. The fact that I have gone ahead and fully restored the iPad to new factory settings only to be presented with the same problem, convinces me that there is a bug in the new iOS 8 software. I am hoping someone at Apple Support has caught wind of this problem and a solution is being worked on.
In the meantime, should any of you have any more ideas for a solution, please pass them on. It would be much appreciated. Thanks.
