Why can't I download or update apps on iPad running iOS 8

Updated my iPad Air to iOS 8. Apps requiring updates and any new app downloads I tried on my iPad Air have been sitting in wait status for hours. I did the following to try to correct the problem but with no success...

- Turned off and restarted the ipad

- reset the iPad without losing previous data

- signed out of iTunes account and signed back in.

My cellular and wifi router are working fine. My iPhone 5 update and iPad mini updates to ios8 worked fine and new apps and any updates are downloading without any problems. I have auto download turned in for apps so when I initiate an app download on my iPad Air, it downloads fine onto my iPad mini even though it is "hung up" on my iPad Air.

Is there anything else I should try before taking the radical step of wiping clean my iPad Air?

I have an iPad air. I had this issue when I updated to 8.0. Then I turned off auto update and made sure I signed into the app store first before attempting to update any of my apps instead of doing it from the update page and waiting until it asked me to sign on, and then everything worked okay. I was able to update my apps and download new ones. I was also able to update to 8.0.2 in the usual way, directly from my iPad air with no problem. Everything seems to be working alright since I did that. I have not turned auto update back on and don't know what would happen if I did. I don't happen to have a lot of apps that I use on both my iPad and my iPhone, so I don't miss it very much. I just put them on both manually. It seems many people on this thread have not been able to get things to update or download or work properly no matter what fix they try, and yes, iPad airs seem to predominate. I'm not sure why mine is working okay. I guess I feel lucky.

Since I downloaded iOS 8.02 two days ago my iPad Air continues to handle all app, mags and newspaper downloads and updates without a problem. FYI, previous to that I had made a list of all the recommedations in this thread as a checklist and made sure I did them all, with the exception of performing the radical step of cleaning and resetting my machine, Because I did not control for variables when I did this, I cannot determine which, if any, of all of your recommendations helped. From all the issues I been following in this thread, this looks to be a pretty complex problem introduced with the original update to iOS 8 and the trend is definitely skewed toward the iPad Air for some reason. I think everyone still having an issue, after exhausting the recommendations in this thread, should pummel Apple support with phone calls and/or bring your machine to a local Apole store to have a tech look at it as well so they too can contact Apple to get this resolved. Other than that, I can't offer much more to help those that are still having this issue. Thanks again for everyone's input.

I had same problem and the only solution that worked for me was this:

- I logged out in Settings>iTunes App Store

- Then I tried downloading an app. I was asked for my username and password and this time the app got downloaded.

Before I tried this solution every time I tried to download an app it would ask for my password only and no download would happen.

Wanted to share, and hope it helps out.

Here is what I have

128 mb iPad Air

No app updates via wifi since September 23

Apps do not update over the air- can update via cable from Mac

Updated apps via Mac do not show up in updated apps list

Not able to update Numbers, Zino ,iTunes Store, newsstand, books

Tried the following suggestion with no luck--

Logging out of iTunes account and then back in as suggested

Turned off auto updates

Updated to iOS 8.02 via Mac

Both hard and soft resets

Reset all settings

Still have the issue. Any further suggestions besides a total restore

Same here. I can't even read my favorite newspaper because it should be downloaded from the iTunes library.

I do have some apps downloaded from a different Apple ID into the same iPad. But it worked fine before this terrible update. I have tried everything, from resets, auto update off, delete some apps, etc.... Every single option and combination of them.

Looks like Apple did hire old Microsoft Windows 3.0 engineers, Google and Samsung pressure and the lack of Steve Jobs shouts around resulted on this. It is going to get worst and worst from now on.

Thanks God, my car, children school buses, subways... do not run IOS 8.x

BTW, anyone knows the IOS project leader engineer name? Some sort of faults are not acceptable. Apple maps was like this... Let's see if Apple is going or not to be the same. If I had a seat on Apple's board I had give a call to Tim Cook this weekend and asked him some questions.

I experienced the same issues as many have posted here after doing the iOS8 upgrade on my iPadAir. (128G ATT ). It is vintage 11/13. After a few days my apps stopped updating and a few stopped working like Evernote and CNBC. I could no longer download apps either, but content for subscriptions like the NYT and WSJ and SFChron still updated for new issues.

After many chats calls with ernest and helpful support people including a supervisor, no joy. I wiped it clean, started as a new system, reset settings, tried the tricks mentioned in the Support Community posts and still all app updates or downloads were stuck. Support recommended I take a trip to the Apple Store which for me is a two hour round trip. Given the new phone madness, getting a Genius appt took several days.

Finally, at the store the Genius guy tried much of the same and got the same results. After a half hour, he decided to replace the iPadAir. I argued it could not be SW but he said we should try. He thought it would come up as 8..02 SW. Fortunately it booted with version 7.1.2 SW. All is working fine again. I will not update to version 8 until Apple admits to this problem and I see users after a week saying all is well. We were used as part of a beta which would be fine if asked. This sort of bug is nasty and the SW should never have gotton out like this. It cost Apple a new system. I find it hard to belive we are all having a hardware problem.
