Alarm clock snooze function on IOS 8

Since I've upgraded my 5S to IOS 8, the snooze function has changed. When the alarm went off, I would press either the volume up or volume down button and it would snooze the alarm. 9 minutes later, the alarm would go off again. Now if I press the same button, no snooze at all. Is this something I can change back? Please help. I've now been late to work for three days in a row. Please Apple, don't make me go buy an alarm clock. This is a stupid problem to have, but with very real consequences for your loyal users.

This bug persists in iOS 8.1. There are a number of other terrible bugs that continue in iOS8.1 as well. This might just be the straw that breaks the camel's back and gets me to switch to Android.

By the way, for those of you who didn't read the thread, the fix is to set your alarm sound to a default sound instead of a song track. Then the alarm behaves normally.

That's not a fix for me. In fact, my problem seems to be worse than the rest of you. I have calendar events set, I have reminders set that when they go off, sometimes I cannot silence them no matter what I do. It's pretty embarrassing when you're in church and something goes off and you can't get it to shut off. True, if I turn the phone off it will stop, but two things about that: first it's quicker to just toss the thing under my butt and sit on it! and secondly, we shouldn't have to turn our devices off, or reset them (which doesn't work anyway) just to get the noise to stop.

Thing is: I have NEVER used anything other than the default sounds that were included in the phone. In fact, until just now, I never knew we could use a soundtrack for anything other than our ringtones!

Furthermore, I've had this problem with every iPhone I've owned for the past several years! I went to Costa Rica in 2012 and I had the problem long before that! Every so often I check the web again to see if anyone has found a solution, but usually all I can find is that people are having problems with their alarms not going off at all, not that they're going off and are unable to silence them (and I don't mean vibrate). Turning the sound on the phone to vibrate doesn't help unless that is the only option selected in preferences; and that just means that the alarm won't make any sound other than the vibration. However, because of my disability I need to have the phone on both vibrate and sound.

Sure wish I could get this issue resolved. Then again, I'd rather have trouble shutting them off than for them to not be going off at all.

II'm having the same problem. Volume buttons silebce snooze functionality for my alarms that are using a song to wake me. The power button on the other hand does snooze as expected. Unfortunately with the new iPhone 6 the power button and volume buttons are both in the side of the phone, opposite sides of course) so in the wee hours of the morning as I'm fumbling for the power button, it's virtually indistinguishable from the volume buttons and the rather more natural squeeze type action tends to press both buttons giving me a50/50 chance that I've hut the right button and my alarm will actually ring again.

SO far my solution has been to create a series of alarms ten minutes apart so that I don't end up late to work.

Let's hope this is fixed soon.

On a related note, since the power button shifted to the right side of the phone, Apple has created a phone that is optimized for right handed users. As a lefty, when I attempt to turn the phone off or on I must use my index finger to press the power button, but the only way that is possible is if my thumb on the left of the phone is used to secure the phone in place. All seems good at first glance except that the volume buttons are right where my thumb is located. So when as a lefty I want to turn the phone off, I regilarly change the phones volume and a second or third press is required to actually get the phone too switch off.

Scissors, three ring binders and now iPhones all suck as a south paw.

If the button were still on the top, you would still need to use your index finger if you were holding the phone in your left hand (as I do) and your thumb might still be over the volume buttons as the phones are larger. Ya I'll have to send them an email about that.

AS for the power button, your point about the power button is partially correct, but from on top when you "squeeze" a bit the majority if the force to click the button is downward and either uses your Palm or your pinkie finger to serve as the opposing force. in the new design, the buttons are opposite each other so all of the force is sent that way. From a right handed perspective you can split your fingers around the volume buttons since your thumb is opposable. Fingers unfortunately aren't oppoable so don't nearly as much of a range of movement.

¡ DOOOOOOO NOT RESET ALL YOUR SETTING!

3 Step Method... will fix the alarm app until Apple can maybe do something right with an update (Hint... You fix one thing, and 30 other things fail!

Check your work before you give it to the public, maybe).

1. Turn the Alarm App off > Douple tap The home button, flick the app upwards with your finger.

2. Hard Rest your iPhone > Hold BOTH the on/off button AND the home button until you see the Apple (It may take like 15 seconds, so don't let go)

3.THIS IS THE IMPORTANT ONE!!! Open the Reminders App and set a new reminder WITH an alarm for five minutes BEFORE you want your alarm

to go off.

OKay, now double check your alarm app and make sure that the alarm didn't magically turn itself off (for some reason it does that sometimes when you do a hard reset).

You ou may be asking, what's the point of the Reminders alarm? Well, you can just use that alarm if it'll wake you up... It totally doesn't for me. But the problem with your alarm app since the last update is the Fing alarm goes to sleep! So, since the Reminders app doesn't have the same glitch, you're essentially using it to wake up your phone, so your phone will wake you up (AGAIN! Until Apple gets this fixed). yeah, you may notice that sometimes the alarm vibrates once when it's supposed to turn on, then stops... There's no alarm OR message on your phone that it went off. but every time you go and set you alarm to make sure it works, it goes off fine... just not when you need it too. So, yes... The reminder alarm basically warms-up/ wakes-up your phone... Your alarm will sound off after those steps for sure!

And yeah, Apple Tech Help might wanna read what this guy has to say...

Yes, this bug continues in iOS 8.1.2.

To recap, the bug occurs only when a song is set for the alarm sound. Setting a "regular" alarm sound does not trigger the bug.

Resetting your phone in any way whatsoever has no effect on this bug. Therefore, this thread contains large amount of erroneous information. I repeat, resetting your phone does not fix this bug.

The only fix is to change the sound from a music track to a regular alarm sound. There is no way to get the alarm to behave properly when a music track is selected.

I spoke with a former apple engineer about this bug. He admits the apple folks are too busy to fix every bug.

The difference lately has been that more and more painful bugs are falling into the category of "too busy to fix."
