Alarm clock snooze function on IOS 8

Since I've upgraded my 5S to IOS 8, the snooze function has changed. When the alarm went off, I would press either the volume up or volume down button and it would snooze the alarm. 9 minutes later, the alarm would go off again. Now if I press the same button, no snooze at all. Is this something I can change back? Please help. I've now been late to work for three days in a row. Please Apple, don't make me go buy an alarm clock. This is a stupid problem to have, but with very real consequences for your loyal users.

I'm bummed. There is some setting that is interfering with the buttons on the side being used as snooze. This morning was a huge fail with the side buttons as snooze... I am disheartened again, but will use the front as needed. I guess one day if I'm really feeling patient, I will reset the settings again and test the alarm after every setting I change... But at least the alarm did continue to go off after I slid the lock screen off... So my whole problem is at 50% now. BLAH! Hopefully more people will speak up about this problem, but looking on the forums right now, there are not many people complaining... YET! 🙂

Hey guys. I have the solution.

Use a regular sound instead of a song for your alarm. I.e., do not select music; select a pre-built alarm sound. Then it will work.

I tested this on my iPhone 5. When the alarm was set to a song on my music app, then the snooze was bugged: hitting the volume button stops the alarm sound, but does not snooze the alarm, in effect rendering the alarm useless.

When I switched to any pre-built tone (e.g. "Slow Rise") then the snooze function worked properly.

Resetting your phone should have no effect on this bug, and whoever suggested that you do this certainly does not have any insight into this bug.

I have confirmed that this bug continues in iOS 8.0.2.

creags56, the top post needs to be edited---resetting your phone is NOT the answer. Resetting your phone appears to work because the alarm tone is set back to the default.

The bug occurs when you set your alarm sound to a song track from your music library. Resetting your phone does nothing to clear this bug. If you reset your phone, and then select a song track as your wake up music, the bug will still continue.

Resetting your phone causes you to lose all your settings, and does nothing to fix this bug that you can't do by just setting the alarm tone to a default sound. It is downright harmful to suggest it as a solution, on account of the tremendous loss of users' time it causes.

I had the same problem after updating a 5s and suffered two late mornings in a row.

I also did not have any success with the full reset.

Since 8.0.2 did not address the bug, and since it seems that only song alarms suffer the problem, I made a ringtone of the first 30 seconds of the song I usually use and assigned it to the alarm instead. This seems to work and I'm back to having normal snooze functionality. Unfortunately its a bit of extra work and not nearly as flexible as the normal song picking process, but it is an option until a real fix is released.

I found the following instructions for creating the ringtone to work well on my macbook pro: http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_quickly_make_ringtone_itunes

Good luck in not sleeping in!

I submitted a bug report to Apple about this last week. It was just closed as Duplicate of (bug number) 17976832.

So Apple's engineering team is aware of the issue. I was disappointed that it was not addressed in iOS 8.0.2, but hopefully it will be fixed in a future update.

In the meantime I've gotten used to flipping open the Smart Cover on my iPad and tapping the screen to snooze.

Has anyone tried using the power on/off button instead of volume? I am having the reverse of your problem. Clicking power button is silencing the alarm but not turning off the snooze and even AFTER I'm up and manually turn off the alarm (slider in the clock). When snooze alarms again and I unlock with the on screen slider it then turns off. Weird.

I posted elsewhere that my iPhone alarm clock issue (iPhone 5s) is that, since upgrading this past weekend, my work alarm no longer works the way it did. My alarm is a song track from my music library...it goes off at 5:00am and the song plays in its entirety (loved that!) and then starts again and keeps playing until I physically turn it off or snooze it. Well, I overslept Monday and discovered why on Tuesday. My work alarm still goes off at 5:00am, but only plays my song track for a few seconds and then cuts off entirely. I count on the alarm music track to continue playing until it wakes me up and I stop it. Those few seconds of "song" do not wake me up. I am disheartened to hear from Pausanias that the upgrade has a bug in it directly related to picking a song track from your music library. I hate all the default alerts...but will have to choose one of them now. Will test first to make sure...and have a backup...can't continue to oversleep.

If anyone knows of an alarm clock app that does let you choose from your music library and continue to play till shut off...please let me know.

SOLUTION! To Snooze alarm clock, the same way you could before(by pressing volume buttons).... Press the Power button on top on phone! This will snooze alarm and show/start 9 minute snooze countdown . I did it today Oct 2nd 2014. It works just like volume buttons did previously. I did not reset phone or change anything. iPhone 5S

I use songs from my iPod/music as well. Hope this helps!

This is the only solution that worked for me (iphone 4S). I did the whole stupid reset and do not recommend it! You can hit the power button and it will snooze your alarm for 9 minutes. Even if you swipe open your phone/enter your passcode, the alarm will go off again in 9 minutes. Only by hitting "okay" or going into the alarm settings and sliding the button from right to left will actually turn off the alarm or reset it for tomorrow. If you set the alarm tone to music from your iTunes library, hitting the power button will still snooze it.
