Can't Download iOS 8
Every time I try to download iOS on iTunes, the time keeps going up by 100s of hours at a time, what is going on?
iPhone 5s, iOS 7.1.2

Ditto here - also on the east coast on Fios at home. Was able to do phone and powerbook on Thurs/Fri but have been battling with iPad since then. I am throwing in the towel for a few days. It seems the issue is FiOs, thanks Verizon ;-( I have tried over wifi, plugged in to computer; late at night or early in the morning and it doesn't matter. It is either 132hrs+ or 56hrs+ for download time and it times out within the hour. It wasn't quick with my phone or laptop but at least it worked. Though I'm reading on other threads about messed up download/upload speeds since the update, especially with iPads and iPods so maybe we have all dodged a bullet!
I have ATT Uverse and I am looking at 24 plus hours to download for my month old 5s. I even tried downloading IOS 8 to my desktop computer but it says it will take 30 plus hours! It's especially weird because I can stream NetFlix on my Fire TV and Iphone with no problem. Do I have to go somewhere else just to download? I shouldn't have to do that.
Same problem and I'm on AT&T. My mother was able to update the exact same iPhone as mine on the exact same network in 15 -20 minutes, but when we tried her iPad and my iPhone, the times fluctuate from 24 - 49 hours. Most of the time I give up on it, but if I do leave it connected I get hit with the 'Network Timed Out' message. I've updated plenty of times in the past and nothing like this has ever happened. And what it this 'Contacting Apple iPhone Support Site' thing? Never seen that before. It's been a few days now that I've been trying this, and I've tried it at all hours of the day and night with zero success. Glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing it, and it's not just my cable provider that is having the problem, but I really hope this gets resolved soon.
I am also using U-Verse. Phone is stuck in recovery mode and Mac won't download iOS 8 so I can restore my phone.
All,
I was having the same issue with not being able to complete the ios 8 update via iTunes. I then read a tip from the apple website about the easiest way to update to ios 8. go to general, software update. I noticed I had an update in progress that was paused. I pressed resume and the download started back up (on the ipad, not iTunes). the download has completed and I now the have the preparing update status.
I really do believe that downloading with FIOS is the problem.. I was having problems gets iOS 8 and I have FIOS as soon as I connected to my sisters wifi (optimum) it let me download iOS 8
I was able to download on my iPhone 5, still can't download to my 3rd Gen. iPad.
I think so too. I tried twice on FiOS at home (once via iTunes and once via wifi) and both failed. I drove to my mom's and did it over Comcast wifi in about 45 mins on the first try.
I suspect a problem somewhere between Verizon and Apple. I have 75/75 FiOS service in my house, and I'm unable to download IOS 8. I've tried rebooting my iMac, my iPhones, and my FiOS router, and still no joy. Meanwhile, I have a friend on FiOS in another state and he had no trouble.
I ended up going to the Apple Store to use their WiFi, and I got the download in 7 minutes, so I know it isn't a problem with Apple's servers.
I've read other threads like this that also point to Verizon. So far, Verizon has not owned up to it. My guess is, they do a perfunctory ping test to see that the packets get through, but aren't really doing any troubleshooting to figure out the problem because they're viewing this as nothing more than a few individuals having trouble.
This is - in my professional opinion (I'm a network specialist) - a Verizon problem.
Same thing here but with AT&T. 24-36 hours for download from Apple on a phone or a desktop. It timesout after an hour or so and iTunes suggests the problem with me (there was a problem... check your internet connection), ugh.
I think it has more to do with Apple using their own content delivery network than anything else.
Success at last!! Decided to resync my ipad one last time and try from the ipad's menu (software update) last night before heading to bed. I awoke to an updated ipad. Now I just have to go through all the setup screen madness ...
Same problem here. iPad 3 and FIOS (on the East Coast).
It takes forever to request an update and then it just gives crazy hours to download and always fails at some point.
It's still not working even today.
Then why is it happening via iTunes on people's computers? If it were just a network issue, it wouldn't have taken me 2 hours to download a 139mb update to my Mac operating system, or nearly an hour to download a 60mb update to my Safari. I watched these downloads begin and they were moving at roughly 64kb a second. Verizon network problems wouldn't have affected my Mac.
II'm in exactly the same boat with IOS8 and FIOS. Every thing else works fine on Internet but can't download IOS8 direct to iPhone 5s or via iTunes to any of my iPhones or iPads
