Can't Download iOS 8
Every time I try to download iOS on iTunes, the time keeps going up by 100s of hours at a time, what is going on?
iPhone 5s, iOS 7.1.2

I'm not talking about the Verizon Wireless LTE network. I'm talking about the Verizon FiOS network.
Figured I'd pile on here too. I have Verizon FiOS and it looks to me like they're throttling Apple downloads for IOS 8. I've been trying for the better part of the past week and have had nothing but terrible luck downloading IOS 8. I just read an article saying "IOS 8 uptake is much slower than it was with IOS 7". I find it amusing because I've NEVER had this many issues doing an IOS upgrade in my life - normally it's a painless process. I took one of the family iPads to my office and like others are reporting - the download there took about 5-10 minutes. Clearly the problem here is Verizon.
I just confirmed msalty's comment. I have FiOS and tried, unsuccessfully, many times over last 12 hours 6 pm until 6 am in NJ. After reading msalty I used my AT&T LTE phone's hotspot capability, and the download worked in 20 minutes.
Confirmed. As weird as it sounds, FIOS is the issue. I went to my friend's place who has cablevision. Took about 10minutes to download.
Maybe this is just Apple's or Verizon's way of encouraging us to get out of the house and be social at a friend or family member's place? haha!
Seems like the solution is to head over to someone else's house and use a different internet provider. (I guess a free wifi spot, like Starbucks or McDonald's, could work too).
For anyone trying to download iOS 8 via FIOS, there is either something wrong with FIOS, or they are electing to throttle the downloads. I just connected to a VPN (via FIOS) and downloaded in something around 10 minutes, vs 40+ hours and repeated failures via direct FIOS connection.
I did the HARD RESET,but I waited till the logo appeared and kept holding down the buttons until the phone turned off again. Restarted it and its downloading like it should.
Started it and the downlload said 21 minutes and as of the typing its at 5 minutes.
Previously I had tried off and on for two days on three different computers and via the wifi. All three conputers eventual said there was an error code of 9006, which translates to an anti-virus program blocking the update. Even after turning off all anti-virus programs I would still get the message.
My guess is the phone went buggy and the hard reset fixes the problem.
Thanks, Shortie85
Glad it helped! 🙂
So far so good.
Also piling on - FiOS user here as well, many tries at downloading on the phone and thru iTunes and failed downloads (err = -3259, err = 9006). Will try another WiFi network.
Wish I could download over-the-air using LTE, but software update will not allow.
Found on another post....this worked for me:
Change to Google's DNS servers 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4.
Downloaded in 5 minutes

I ended up taking my laptop and iPhone to my work network. I plugged it into another network and the download took about 5 minutes. It clearly appears to be home network (Verizon Fios) elated.
Thank you KRutter, this solved my problem, I have Verizon DSL and when I went in and put the Google DNS addresses in place of what was there my download started. Verizon should be shot, I believe anyone having this issue should be OK if they switch their DNS address.
Had the same problem with my 4s! Thanks to u i got ios 8.1
