iPhone 6 "Restoring from iCloud Backup" forever

Hi folks,

My iPhone 6 spent many hours retrieving my apps when I first set it up; in fact the next morning I had to coax it along by tapping on a few of the not-yet-downloaded apps in order to get them to fully download. But I think they're all here now, and all my data seems to have arrived as well. (This was all via WiFi, not through a cable to iTunes.)

BUT

The iPhone continues to say "Restoring from iCloud Backup." It's been two days so far. This morning I plugged the phone into and used iTunes to trigger an iCloud backup. (No backups had occurred with this phone yet, and I feared they never would be since the phone thinks it's in restore mode.)

Even after my backup was complete, the phone STILL says "Restoring from iCloud Backup."

Help?

This fixed it!!! I had to undo a few additional things:

I went under settings and looked at all the programs that were backing up to iCloud and unchecked all the ones i never used:

-Keynote

-Pages

-Numbers

-Game Center

-Garageband

-any other app that was an apple default App

I opened each of the apps, and then made sure to deselect the backup to icloud. As soon as I did this, my phone completed the iCloud restore that had been going on for three weeks!

Did you managed to find a fix? I have the same problem, lots of photos greyed out, initially they started reappearing from greyness but now its stuck. my voice memos have not been restored yet too, other than that most have been restored. When I go to settings > icloud > backup, it is off even though it still says 'your iPhone is still being restored.' I do not have any other local backups sadly

Hey guys, i did not read the whole topic, but i have the same problem - restoring forever - and here is what i found.

I've inspected some of the logs of my stuck iPad Air 2 on iOS 9.2 and it appears that the restore process is stuck while trying to restore an app that is no longer available in the app store. In my case it is an app with bundle identifier com.travellerstudio.dlmusic2.

I've tried rebooting, but this does not help at all - the process is constantly trying to install this app over and over again.

I hope apple engineers are reading these topics, so here my log. Look for backupd process.

I managed to fix this issue.

Basically you have to install an app with the same bundle identifier in order to unstuck the process.

This can be done either if you have the ipa file in iTunes or if you have access to a developer account you can just create an app and install it trough Xcode.

I did the second one:

0. Make sure you have an apple developer account.

1. Generate a new AppID with the same bundle identifier, or with a wildcard bundle identifier.

2. Generate a new provisioning profile for the AppID and your device

3. Create a new project from template in xcode and se its bundle identifier to be exact same as the problematic one

4. Install and Run the app from Xcode, then Stop it.

5. Reboot your device - and voala - the restore process has finished.

I'm going to submit a bug report to app regarding this.

Girlfriends iPad was doing the same thing (I found this link with these steps and it worked for iPad):

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/01/29/how-to-stop-an-icloud-restore-that-is-st uck/

Go to Settings on the iWhatever

Now go to the iCloud settings.

On this screen you need to go to Backup.

On the next screen tap on Stop Restoring iWhatever.

A pop up will ask if you want to stop the Restore, with a warning. Tap on Stop.

After you finish this step you will no longer see warnings about an iCloud restore in progress and you will be able to use your phone like normal. This is not a process you can reverse, but you can always restore from the old iCloud backup before you make a new one.

I'm having the exact same issue. I've been dealing with this off and on for over two years. Apple says that it's a software issue and that the phone has to be setup as new but I don't feel that I should have to lose out on the music I've collected and the photo and video memories I've shared over the past TEN YEARS! Apple should offer a service that will debug your software while preserving your content. I'd even pay for it if I had to. Or better yet iCloud should scan your software when you create a backup and offer to fix it or automatically fix it when you backup. I refuse to believe that a company worth over $100 billion can't figure out how to fix THEIR corrupted software.

I have dealt with this several times. One thing I have learned that seems to help, is when the restoring of your apps seems "stuck", as in they seem to be endlessly in "Waiting" mode and none of them are in progress or "installing". Is to reboot (literally power off and back on). You can then touch one of the dimmed icons and it will go immediately into installing mode, and the process seems to kick in for all the other uninstalled apps as well.
