"this itunes account is set up to use family sharing with a different iCloud account"

I set up an iCloud family. Until now, everyone had their own iCloud account, and we had a separate iTunes ID (not an iCloud e-mail address) that all of our purchases were made under.

So, I set up that Apple ID as the master account and added everyone's personal iCloud accounts as members.

Then, I went into iTunes prefs and logged in as my iCloud account.

When I go to the App store and go to Purchased, it says:

"this itunes account is set up to use family sharing with a different iCloud account than <my iTunes Apple ID>." Then there is a Learn More link that takes me to my iCloud and shows my family group with the same Apple ID as the organizer.

Does anyone have any idea what happened to cause it to think that I am not in the same family group?

Thanks.

We were having the same problem. What seemed to fix it is that each family member not only had to have their own iCloud account, but the iTunes purchases need to be separately defined as well (each person uses their own apple id for iTunes). For example, I had to add my credit card info to my son's iTunes account apple id.

Specifically, we were having trouble with my husband's sharing and getting the error described above "this itunes account is set up to use Family Sharing with a different iCloud account than < >"

On my husband's phone, this is what needed to change:

settings<iCloud<family<"person's name"<family purchases header

Under the family purchases header, we changed the apple id from the older shared id to his unique apple id.

This description may be confusing, but it solved the problem for us and I hope it helps others.

As a side note, even though each family member has their own apple id defined for iTunes purchases (with perhaps their own credit card details), I think that the organizer of the family sharing plan is the one who pays for everything. For example, my husband has his own apple id for iTunes, but it's going to use my id for purchases if I'm the family sharing organizer.

hi guys

i am having the same issue as what you described, at least the symptom looks the same. however, it turns out to be a very simple issue. i just browsed your fixes, seems mine is different from yours, anyway, i am sharing my findings in case someone in the future will find it useful

the root cause of "this itunes account is set up to use family sharing with a different iCloud account than <my iTunes Apple ID>" is quite simple, my wife, as the family organizer, added me as the family member by using my apple email as my apple id, that is "xxxxx@icloud.com", but i always logged into iCloud and iTunes store using my original email "xxxxxx@gmail.com" when i applied for the apple id.

essentially, "xxxx@gmail.com" and "xxxxx@icloud.com" are the same regarding to apple id, as a matter of fact, people can FaceTime me using either of the email address, but not to the family sharing apparently.

so i asked my wife to remove me from family sharing and add me back again, using "xxxx@gmail.com", then everything works fine

hope this helps

I'm not sure if this is the same issue I just experienced, but, if so, I have a solution. I just got off the phone with Apple Care.

Here is what happened. My wife and I always shared my Apple ID for iTunes and the App store, since I had it it long before Family Sharing was an option. Once Family Sharing became an option, I added our two daughters' Apple IDs to Family Sharing with me as the primary account. I left my wife's iTunes and App store logins stayed the same as mine. This was an oversight on my part since she had to remember my password to make purchases.

Today I changed her logins to use her Apple ID for everything. She had to select that she wanted her Family Sharing account to change (something about not changing back for 90 days). She did that. We updated her settings on all devices (iPhone, MacBook, and iPad) for iTunes and the App store. We she would open iTunes on her phone or iPad, it seemed to work fine - she could see all family members and our purchases. However, the issue was the App store. She would get the message: "This iTunes account is set up to use family sharing with a different iCloud account." What didn't make any sense was the message listed her Apple ID that I had now set up on all of her devices. She could still see all of our family members and the our purchases, but the header with the message would not go away.

I went into Manage Family Sharing via System Preferences on my MacBook and saw that she was listed on there, so I didn't think there was an issue. Anyway, I called Apple Care. The issue was that in the Family Sharing settings, which I manage, the box to enable her as a parent/guardian to approve purchases was NOT checked. I checked the box and the problem immediately disappeared on her iPhone and iPad.

Problem solved.

My account is Family organizer. My wife's account was added and on her iPhone I had this issue.

This is how I solved this. Hope this helps you guys as well.

On my wife's iPhone go to

Settings > iTunes & App Store > Log out wife@appleid.com

Settings > iTunes & App Store > Log in with me@appleid.com

View purchases in App Store (Not sure if this step is necessary, but this is what I did.)

Settings > iTunes & App Store > Log out me@appleid.com

Settings > iTunes & App Store > Log in with wife@appleid.com

So all I had to do is login and out with my organizer account once on her device and it seemed to resolve this. Now she can view my purchases and she is also automatically added to my Apple Music family sharing.

I had the same issue but with a child account. I could not remove the child account from family sharing as listed above.

But I think I found out the cause. When I setup the family sharing account for the child ie child@icloud.com I said to share purchases and I entered in the parent@icloud.com. What this did was essentially tell apple that child@icloud.com was using parent @icloud.com as its ITunes account for apps. This is wrong and not how family sharing is supposed to be setup.

To fix it on the child ipad I did the following

1. go to Settings -> iCloud

2. Click on Family

3. Click on the child (me) account.

4. You should see Family Purchases with an apple id under it.

5. Click this and it asks you to confirm the account. This time I entered the child@icloud.com account and confirmed.

6. This reset it so that child@icloud.com is using child@icloud.com as the ITunes account and thus will now see the parent@icloud.com under the apps.

I hope this helps
