iTunes does not see iOS8 devices over wifi

I installed iOS8 on my iPhone 4S and iPad mini and now iTunes (11.4 (18)) on my iMac no longer sees these devices unless I attach them via USB. I have tried rebooting the router, the Mac and the devices. I have reinstalled iTunes. I have checked that the appropriate settings for wifi sync are correctly set on all machines. Any suggestions?

Today it worked fine (once). There were two differences:

1. I'd left the iPad plugged in when I started up the Mac so the iPad was sitting there waiting when iTunes started up); and

2. I'd unplugged the Mac from the wired LAN connection (same physical network as the WiFi network) so it was only using WiFi.

Whether that's significant or not I doubt if Apple knows.

Since I installed OSX Yosemite and iTunes 12 the wi-fi synchronisation between the Mac and iPhone 6 was fine but still wasn't working with my ipad Air.

So I tried the following steps:

1) Plug the idevice with the USB/lightning connector

2) Uncheck the box that allows you to sync your device over wi-fi

3) Apply changes and synchronise the device (with the cable)

4) Turn off then turn on iTunes

5) Check the box that allows you to sync your device over wi-fi

6) Reapply changes and sync again

I restarted the Mac 3 times since, iTunes seems to see all my devices everytime.

Hallelujah. After installing iOS 8.1 today, my iPhone and iPad showed up in iTunes 12. And I was able to sync wirelessly with them all morning and afternoon. Hopefully, Apple permanently fixed this problem even though they're not admitting to it. I guess time will tell if iTunes can continually wirelessly connect with my iOS devices.

Mine is still spotty.

My iPhone 5 right now will not connect. iOS 8.1 and Mac OS X 10.10 with iTunes 12.0.1 (installed Oct 17).

But hopefully it's because something is wrong with my iPhone 5. Currently the battery life has been at 100% for the last several days. (best battery life ever lol). I am thinking, and hoping, that the 3rd party company who replaced the battery for the recall last month. Accidentally installed an old battery. Because there was no real change for me after the the replacement. Now I am afraid to reboot the phone, because on Sunday it would reboot every 5 minutes on it's own.

I experienced the same problem with an iPhone 6, iPhone 6+ and iPad Air (all on the latest version of iOS 8) not appearing in iTunes on my iMac (on Mavericks with all software updated). For me, the simple fix was to power down the iOS devices (using the slider). As soon as they rebooted and reconnected to wifI (while plugged into an electrical outlet) they were immediately recognized by iTunes. This may not work for everyone, but it's best to try the simply solution before resorting to more drastic measures such as restoring the devices.
