Home button issues after iOS 8 update

Has anyone experienced problems with their home button after the iOS 8 update? When I am trying to exit an app using the home button I press it once, but then the iPhone acts as if I have pressed it twice quickly and brings me to the "multitasking screen". It doesn't always do this error, but it is not uncommon and it is very annoying. It never did this before the iOS 8 update. I may try to just restore the iPhone but first I want to see if anyone else is having the same problems or has any suggestions how to fix it. Thanks!!

So annoying.

I thought the one tip about opening a stock app and doing the power home button thing fixed it. But it just came right back after a little while and pretty much happens 50% of the time I am closing out an app. Really upset with Apple. I have also noticed that my iPad will get stuck in a certain orientation. Seriously the iOS 8 update is cool but I have never had so many bugs in a release!

C'mon Apple! Help us out! I am hoping the 8.1 update will fix everything.

I am having this issue too, click home button once and it loads the multi tasking screen, this only happened once I updated to IOS8, I have tried all the options listed here and none work. So got a chat going with Apple support they talked me through loads of things and reinstalled from backup and reset the phone from icloud etc nothing works and the adviser said that this is definitely a hard ware issue and I need to go to an apple store and get the button fixed/replaced.

I argued and said this cant be as it only happened after IOS8 was installed, I was told that "Many hardware issues are brought to light when new software is introduced, but the updates do not cause the hardware to fail"

I find that hard to believe, so based on that all these button issues are the phone owners responsibility to sort at their cost!

It may be a hardware issue but the fact that it occurred with the iOS 8 update makes me suspect it's a software bug. I am holding out hope for the iOS 8.1 update to fix this issue as people before have posted that it has fixed their issues. Because restoring my iPhone 5 and/or doing the stock app reset thing has failed to fix the issue. However, the stock app reset does seem to alleviate the issue somewhat for a little while, but this could be a placebo effect (or proof that it's software).

So please if you are having these issues please post on these forums and let Apple know about this issue. Of even better post a fix!

As a result of this update the HOME BUTTON has been knocked off and does not work!!! Somebody help please as I am tearing my hair out right now with Apple again.

Surely these updates need to be tested better........its embarrassing Apple!!!

Please can someone help me soon asap

I am happy to see so many other users with this same issue. The way the Apple Genius at the Apple store reacted was like "This never happens"

I had the home button issue arise right after the update to the IOS 8. Siri was always being activated. Then I turned Siri off, but voice control was now being activated. To my displeasure, I was pocket dialling people because voice control was taking over. I then turned off the voice control for dialing, but voice control could still be activated for music, which now my battery life wish diminishing rapidly. I get to the Apple store and the genius resets all my settings. He does the Home button test, which worked 10/10 times. 20 minutes after I leave the store the issue restarts again. I then have to make another appointment with Apple to go and test my phone. THe genius now tells me she will try to do a factory restore that only they can perform. After 20 minutes and 3 attempts, I am told that my phone is not responding and it cannot open. I am told that it is a hardware issue and I do not have anymore warranty. I was forced to buy and new Iphone 5 at 300$ plus taxes, because I did not have any phone. All this started with the IOS8 update. Just upset that this issue was created by the update and Apple turns around and says its a hardware issue. The genius told me that sometimes it could be Apps that are installed that cause issues like this. My new iphone working perfectly but it is not on the IOS8.

I have an iPhone 6 Plus 128G GB running iOS 8.1 (12B411). I have been having home button issues with it being unresponsive. I usually have to hold the power and home button to force restart and that only sometimes fixes the problem. It just stops working for a while then comes back by it self sometimes. VERY annoying and I can't figure it out. I tried everything that you guys have here and still nothing.

If anyone is having the same issues please tell me what you did to fix it.
