iPhone 6-Darkish band and off yellow color top of screen on white backgrounds.

I'm wandering if anyone is experiencing the following concern that I have? I own the iPhone 6 Silver/White with 16GB mem.


Across the top of the screen on white backgrounds there seems to be a dark shadow cast from the edge.The dark shadowing is most pronounced towards the upper right corner of the screen, slightly in the bottom left (when the phone is held normal... Home button on the bottom (AKA touch ID), volume rocker on the left side).


In the first image you will observe the the upper right corner of the phone is located to the top-left of the image near "21 SEP-Sunday."


In the second image you will observe that I have rotated the screen/phone 180 degrees. The upper right corner of the phone will be in the bottom right of the image. You'll also notice that there is a dark band that runs across the top of the screen, slightly on the bottom.


I noticed this on some of the iPhone 6s at my local Apple store as well. It seemed most common with the White/Gold-silver models. The Black/Space Grays mostly had pristine screens when I compared mine next to them. I was going to show an Apple rep, but there were, no kidding, hundreds of folks waiting in two lines for an iPhone 6. So I didn't bother. I called Apple for a replacement, but they said I would need to send them the phone back first and they do not offer collateral and allowing me to keep the phone until a replacement arrives. That's bogus :-(

I have exact same issue. Screen has a darker patch at the top/right of the screen. Screen also seems to have a bit of tint when compared side by side with other iPhone 6. Contacted AppleCare and they advised to go to Apple Store.

For some reason I can't open the photos you posted. I went to the Apple store again today to purchase an iPhone 5c for my wife. Her 5S (less than two weeks old) is going into low signal mode and burning out the battery. There are no issues with the 5c screen although this is a speck of dust I'm not worried about. I'm trying to activate the 5c and it's telling me Apple servers are down. This is getting ridiculous. I'm speaking with Tmobile and we are doing a master reset and software update. I'll see how that goes in about another 20 minutes. I'm considering switching to the 5c myself. I'm fed up with poor screens. I prefer consistent color accuracy over overly saturated photos...frustrating.


I'm having nothing but issues with these iPhones (5/5s/5c) lol. I've been with Samsung Note/Galaxy series and haven't had all of these problems (sigh)... I'll deal with that (speck of dust on 5c screen) over the patchy and urine yellow screen on the iPhone 6. The iPad Air had the same issue (yellow/blue/pink) screens with uneven coloring. I'm guessing the higher the contrast ratios on the newer screens appear warmer and more blotchier since they can produce more color than a lower contrast panel and so imperfections show up easier. I could be wrong considering this is just an observation.

I've decided to just return the iPhone 6. I just had way too many instances with defective products from Apple at once. And I do not have a phone to use while my iPhone 6 ships out and I wait for an exchange considering I'm job hunting, need to be available to come in for interview at moments notice, and have children, etc.. That's not to say that the Apple Customer Service is not good. It's just that there is no inventory hardly available in my area and Apple seems to have a bad track record in regards to poor screens in their products from what I've been reading on all these forums. Most people probably don't care, but that's something Steve Jobs in my opinion would find unacceptable. Apple was/is successful because he was a perfectionist and every detail mattered to him. Quality and consistency mattered to him.


I recently purchased three other Apple products besides the iPhone 6: A Mac Mini (the wifi is dropping and having difficulty reconnecting when waking from sleep...brand new out of the box; I do have an Apple router FYI); An iPhone 5s (for my wife: it keeps going into "Low Signal Mode" and draining the battery very quickly...within four to five hours), and an iPhone 5c that was just purchased today that will not activate to replace the 5s... Four products all with issues. I'm very upset with all the time and energy I put into Apple over the last couple of weeks. This has not been a good experience for me :-/

You could have asked applecare for advance replacement, when you return old phone after receiving new one, even if it means waiting a week or two for it to arrive (they would just place a hold on your credit card).


In all honesty, it's i think first time I had issues with an iPhone screen and I had every iPhone since the second one, to be fair. Yes, there are occasionally issues, but it's electronics at the end of the day.

Hey Kamil1,

thanks for the response. I asked the Apple rep if I had any other options such as keeping my credit card info. as collateral... I'm wondering if "advance replacement" was an option because I kept asking her if she was certain there were no other shipping options in which I could hold onto the iPhone 6 until a replacement arrives. I waited ten to fifteen minutes on hold to be told I had no other options.


Anyhow, I really liked the design/aesthetics, performance, etc of the iPhone 6, but I'm about exhausted with Apple. I still have to go back to the Apple store on Wednesday with my wife and daughter (about an hour plus drive from my home) with the iPhone 5s, 5c and Mac Mini to show them what's going on. I'll likely do returns than exchanges as I don't want to go through this again. I feel like I've gone above and beyond already and this has all consumed too much of my time and I'm not compensated for my misfortunes lol.

I got the 128GB iPhone 6, in Space Gray. I've since exchanged the original one, from the "original packaging." It had a lighter "spot" area on the top 1/4 of the screen. Almost as if you pushed your thumb onto a display and held down. It was subtle but annoying when reading text and viewing pages with a lighter background. The next exchanged phone was brought out by a Genius in a simple "white box". Was it a refurb? Not sure. After I left the store, I noticed that this phone has a lighter area or band from left to right in about the center of the screen. Worse then the phone I exchanged it for. Again, it's light but really noticeable when reading and viewing images. Friends and family confirmed, so I'm not "seeing things". I'm going back tomorrow for a third replacement which I will double and triple check in the store. There is definitely a QC issue at Foxxconn.

When I picked up my 6 128GB Gold, the first phone we opened had a clear and obvious dark band across the top. Second phone we opened in-store to replace it, also had the band but slightly less noticable.

Every single iPhone 6 I have seen, from every display model in 3 Bay Area stores, to all my coworkers' phones, have a darkish band. Mine isn't yellow and the darkness is slight enough I doubt it would bother most people.


But I've yet to see an iPhone 6 that did not have some sort of screen uniformity issue.


At least I didn't get dead or stuck pixels.


What happened to Apple's QC? My wife's 5S has been randomly restarting since iOS8 came out, and nothing fixes it.

I decided to return the iPHone 6. I have not had good experience with Apple products. I purchased three recently, which all had major issues (purchased within weeks of the iPhone 6). I had a 5s, which was going into low-signal mode and burning out the battery before mid-day. I had a Mac-Mini that kept dropping the wifi signal and had issue reconnecting when waking from sleep (this became nearly useless for anything online) and a iPhone 5c that could not be activated (a complete brick). The 5c was the last purchase (on-top of the Mac-Mini) that made me give up. I was not going to exchange four products that cost around $2k.

I ended up ordering the Moto X second Gen. It has an amoled display and amoleds typically don't have uniformity and hot pixel issues. Also, I got accidental coverage, accessories and 32GB of memory for less than I did for the purchase of the iPhone 6 16GB (about $600 after $50 student rebate). I also found Siri was not as good as Google's voice services (or directions for that matter) and the OS was not as intuitive with multitasking IMO.

I am a fan of Apple products overall and it's unfortunate Foxconn is doing them a disservice. Hopefully you all get your issues worked out. I'm baffled at how Apple products tend to get the best reviews on screen quality. Before a review should be given on accuracy, how about back-light uniformity? That is just as important for the overall user experience IMO.

Thanks for telling me this. The problem is much bigger than I imagined. I've been trying to find discussions online for the past two weeks and this is all I've seen. When describing the thumb-sized area, the Genius said "I'm not seeing it". But I bet he swapped that with this one that "everyone can see".


I hope the replacement phone tomorrow is better, but I'm real doubtful. I'll post an update. As an Apple user for decades, Ive not been pleased for the last few years. Poor battery life in my 4s with iOS 7. iOS 8 having wifi issues, among so many others. Not being able to do a clean restore of this phone to test it (15 hr+ download time through iTunes) last week on a real fast connection. The list goes on. My contract was up in April so I waited for the extra time for this phone. Now I'm regretting that decision. But I don't think I'm alone.

I just received my replacement from Apple yesterday for this issue. My original serial started with F73 and the replacement starts with F78. When I first turned on the replacement and set up my account, I compared the phones. Right away the replacement was way off way darker than the original. First thought was to send both back and wait till they fix all the issues with the new phones. But after playing with the new replacement the screen automatically started to get brighter, Its almost as bright as the original. Here are some pictures with both phone turned up all the way on brightness, I have noticed I can see a bigger difference when they are on auto brightness, which is what I keep my phone on all the time. I took these pictures with a LG G3 its hard to see in the photos but its really noticeable in person. Original is on the left

While the shadowing is still clearly visible, the color/lighting uniformity does appear better (more uniform/consistent) on the replacement phone (one on the right).


What annoys me though is that my $200 Nexus 4 (I bought it during Google's fire sale) has a way better display than many of the iphone 6 phones I have seen. It just bothers me knowing a $200 phone screen is much better, consistent and clearer than a $650+ flagship phone that suppose to be the best Apple has to offer. As much as I liked the iPhone 6, I couldn't keep it knowing my backup phone (Nexus 4) had a much better display along with other phones in the market with more to offer for less cost in my opinion. As I previously mentioned, hopefully Apple will get this cleared up on the next model. I'm doubting it though since their phones typically sell like hotcakes and most people don't care about screen quality/yellowing and lighting consistency.

I have noticed I can see a bigger difference when they are on auto brightness, which is what I keep my phone on all the time.


Just in case you're not aware, when auto-brightness is turned on you can still adjust the brightness slider. It acts as an "offset" so the brightness will still change along with ambient light levels but can be adjusted for people who like their screen generally lighter or darker. Perhaps that's the reason why you're seeing a difference between the two when they're both on auto?
