iPhone 6-Darkish band and off yellow color top of screen on white backgrounds.

I'm wandering if anyone is experiencing the following concern that I have? I own the iPhone 6 Silver/White with 16GB mem.

Across the top of the screen on white backgrounds there seems to be a dark shadow cast from the edge. The dark shadowing is most pronounced towards the upper right corner of the screen, slightly in the bottom left (when the phone is held normal... Home button on the bottom (AKA touch ID), volume rocker on the left side).

In the first image you will observe the the upper right corner of the phone is located to the top-left of the image near "21 SEP-Sunday."

In the second image you will observe that I have rotated the screen/phone 180 degrees. The upper right corner of the phone will be in the bottom right of the image. You'll also notice that there is a dark band that runs across the top of the screen, slightly on the bottom.

I noticed this on some of the iPhone 6s at my local Apple store as well. It seemed most common with the White/Gold-silver models. The Black/Space Grays mostly had pristine screens when I compared mine next to them. I was going to show an Apple rep, but there were, no kidding, hundreds of folks waiting in two lines for an iPhone 6. So I didn't bother. I called Apple for a replacement, but they said I would need to send them the phone back first and they do not offer collateral and allowing me to keep the phone until a replacement arrives. That's bogus :-(

My first one from pre order has light spot / dead pixel, the shadow problem is very minimal.

The second one that I exchanged has dust/pin hole on the screen, but the panel itself is perfect.

The third one that I went in for they have dark shadow on the battery sign, its really annoying, and the brightness is worse.

It's very noticeable....

The quality has really gone down a lot for from generation to generation. This is getting out of control for the quality.

Same here, I have this same band that you talk about on my 6 Plus as well. I was at Apple store and I showed it to the guy and I explained it to him and he doesn't seem to see it, he may or may not see it but he also showed it to his coworker for his second opinion. Now obviously the place is bright so it's hard to see in bright lit areas, and only visible in dark area. My Original 6 Plus did not have this and I had to get it replaced because of the dead pixel and was out of the 14 day return period.

The 6 Plus on display at my local Apple store does not have this issue at all. Anyways I have Apple care Plus, so I may consider chatting with Apple and see what they say. Otherwise everything else is just fine.

Not to mention, this can only be seen in white backgrounds. Somewhat annoying.

+1.

I have a Space Grey 128GB iPhone 6 Plus with the same dark band across the top of the screen and with the top 20% of the screen having a yellow stain. The rest of the screen is a nice cool white. Really noticeable when scrolling white pages and very distracting. I am not enjoying my new phone because of this because I spent a lot of time in Safari and reading PDFs.

I've tried to live with it but after 3 weeks my conscious was telling me to get it replaced as it was £790. Like many others, I've played the screen lottery game in Apple Stores with my rMBP complete with a test of my influencing skills with the in-store Geniuses who always claim they can never see the problem. Its stressful and frustrating and I don't want to have to go through that again so this time I've gone with Apple Support on the phone and they are sending me out an express replacement. I really hope the replacement has no issues.

What was interesting was that unless you have Applecare+, Apple charge £27 as an admin fee + a hold on your credit card for all express replacements. They also said that a courier will bring the replacement and will expect to take my old phone immediately so I wouldn't get an opportunity to compare the phones.

Can anyone else in the UK confirm this or does the courier just drop the new phone off allowing me time to arrange for the old one to go back?

I even went to the Genius Bar to get some 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions. However because the place is so bright, it's very hard to notice in bright lit areas. So the genius had to go back into the dark room in the back to see. Although she could not see, she said that she can have the back run some color calibration to see if it meets within spec. So the results got back and was told that it was within their spec. Anyways I decided to just sell this one and got the 128 GB Space Gray model.

So far my space gray model seems to be perfect. I got it on Saturday but the week is Week 39 (September). I think it has to do with the manufacturing issue.

That's encouraging to know. I really hope my replacement is problem free too. I hate this device swapping process.

I'm looking at my iPhone 6 Plus now and sometimes the yellow stain at the top improves, then later in the day its back again worse than ever. Once per day I see the entire left of the screen yellow and blue on the right. 20 mins later its gone and the uniformity is pretty good again.

I don't understand why this is happening.

So my replacement iPhone 6+ just arrived - this one is worse than my original. It has a white hotspot on the top of the screen, just to the left of the clock and bottom right hand part of the screen has a yellow stain. The only redeeming feature of this replacement is it doesn't have the original faults.

Calling Apple Support again for another replacement.

So I just got back off the phone with Apple Support. They want one of the phones back before they will ship another one all of which takes at least another week......which is fair enough but I don't want to have to take yet another day off work.

I have no confidence the next iPhone 6+ replacement will be issue free. I've spent well over £15,000 on Apple products since 2006 and I've never had any issues with any them. Mac, iPads, iPhones, iPods - all have been perfect. Why are these iPhone 6+'s so bad?

My original iPhone 6+ is the better of the 2 phones which I'm going to keep. Minor dark band band across the top that leaves behind a yellow stain....really noticible when scrolling on a white background (like reading PDFs).

Not happy.

I got 2 iPhone 6 16GB Sliver/White. Both iPhones have brighter screen on the right side, and yellowish screen on the left side. One of them has exactly the same problem as yours. The other one has a yellowish screen when compares to the other one, but it has no dark shadow. I am so disappointed about these problem. I want to keep it, because it's going to a long drive to the get replacements, but every time I use it, this unbalance-color screen bothers me so much. I am consider to get a replacement in Apple Store. They said is the glue problem, after it dries, the screen will gets brighter in a week... Do you believe this?

Oct 22, 2014 11:24 AM in response to Amanda.qwz

I don't think it has to do with glue at all. Apple is doing that to make excuses telling you that it's normal when in fact it's not. Even my ipad mini retina has the yellow tint and there is no adhesive glue that is being used. So I don't believe in what Apple says use it for a week. Because yellow tint will be permanent and it will be there even after a week of use.

I'm starting to believe this. I have seen 6 iPhone6's in the flesh (not in Apple Stores) and only 2 of them had what I would consider good screens. Based on that, chances are high that a replacement will have issues.

I'm starting to think if you have issues that aren't a glaring fault, wait until the other side of Christmas when supply meets demand. Quality control has clearly been lowered to increase output and its not good. Best to wait until manufactures aren't under so much pressure and allow these phone to get out there into the supply chain.

I'm not happy with this situation either but unless you're able to easily demonstrate the issues to a Genius and continue to play the replacement game, it seems to be the way it is right now.

Its such a shame that when you look at your iPhone 6, the experience is negative. It shouldn't be this way.
