iPhone 6 runs hot

Why does my new iPhone 6 run hot when applications is running?

Applications did not run hot on my iPhone 5. (Example: running "Harmony App from Logitech" for remotes)

iPhone 6, iOS 8

I am having the same issue. I haven't noticed it when using apps so much as when I'm on a call that lasts more than a few minutes. About 15 minutes into a call the back of the iPhone gets really hot. It's hard to hold it at that point because of the heat. The high temperature lasts for about 10 minutes and then subsides and the unit cools down quite fast. I wouldn't be concerned but this is something that I hold in my hand, close to my head. Excessive heat is not acceptable IMHO. Hopefully there will be a resolution and/or comment from Apple on this issue.

Just got my iPhone 6. If I talk on the phone for more than 10 minutes, the upper thrid of the phone gets burning hot. It's too hot to hold against my cheek, so I have to use the speakerphone instead. I'm using the phone inside where it's not more than 75°, and it's stored in the same environment. I can (almost) understand that if you're installing lots of apps, it might get warm. But burning hot just talking on the phone? I'll go to the Apple Store and ask about it, but I'm seeing lots of people complaining about this, so I can't imagine what they'll be able to do to help. My old iPhone 4S ran warm sometimes, but never burning hot like this! I'm very disappointed.

My iPhone 6 was getting really hot and my battery was draining really fast (when I was using safari or any random app).

I could fix the problem by removing completely the app "imonitor for ios8". Even though I didn't activate the widget of this app in notification center it kept draining my battery. I think there is a bug with the new widget feature...

I was experiencing the same thing. Getting unusually hot in the upper right of the screen (right where the A8 chip is located), as well as back and right side. My battery usage stats always have Facebook at the top of the list with 20-30% of the usage so I deleted the app. Immediately, the phone started to cool down which leads me to believe there is some reason the fb app is hanging up the processor in the background. I'm using a 4.7" iPhone 6 running 8.0.2, with background app refresh turned off and Facebook Location services set to 'only while using app.' Try deleting fb and post your results. If it works, send feedback to fb devs So hopefully we can get this fixed. Good luck.

It`s being even worse...

I`m just sitting in the train listening to some music with my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1)... nothing else...

After arriving at my office after 1h traveling, I realize this device being VERY hot... additionally, it lost 40% battery capacity.. I left with 100% 1h before...

That`s really unacceptable IMHO...

Now I`m testing it... it`s "funny"...i`m running it in flight mode, disabled anything that might need battery (did that some days before), device in standby mode... but it looses capacity.. fascinating... I guess I need to consult the Apple Store...

Any suggestions so far?

Thx

Axel

Oh ok, thank you for your comment!!

But I`m using iCloud for synchronization of my calendars, contacts and notices... I would really miss that.. but I`ll test it for the same travel tomorrow... we`ll see if battery behavior changes...

I rather guess it`s a hardware error... I opened a case with Apple Support, they will call me tomorrow... I`m curious about their solution...

I will report the result here again - thanks so far!

I'm the same problem but it gets worse and worse everyday. It goes to about 115 degrees Fahrenheit. I will go to the Apple Store to get a replacement and see if i can get the 6 plus because the iPhone 6 is a little small for my hands. And I'm 13!

You must have pretty large hands?

Unless you are within the 14 day return window, I wouldn't hold much hope for a replacement with a 6+. If you are within the first 14 days, you can return the phone and apply it to the a 6+, but that only applies during the first 14 days of ownership. Otherwise, they'll replace your phone with the same model you currently have.

For me, when am in a call for long say 15mts or more, the phone gets over heated and call gets disconnected with no further operation for atleast 5minutes. Not sure whats the issue with heat and disconnect of the call.

My iPhone4 was too cool phone, may be the slim part is creating the issue of parts dissipating the heat to the outer surface. Unfortunately its our hand or cheek which gets the heat !

May be someone from apple tell us clearly on whats the issue?

Thanks

No one from Apple will respond as this is a user to user forum, hosted by Apple. It's not normal for your phone to overheat and disconnect a call after 15 minutes. Both iPhone 6's in my house are cool as a cucumber. You should schedule an appointment at the Genius Bar at your Apple Store and have the phone evaluated. If it is found to be defective, it will be replaced.
