i have my iPhone 6, I resolved this by going to Settings> General> Background App Refresh and turned it off! 🙂 hope it helps you all!
I have this issue. Apple support acts like it something I am doing. They keep telling me in Battery tests ok. But can use 40% of the battery in 1 hour of use. I have tried resting every possible option, to new, back,up , setting only and nothing works. I can run out of battery in about 4-5 hours of use. Should have kept my 5S. I would last way longer! I had the phone replaced through Verizon, but it has started again after the second full charge. I am getting very frustrated with this. the latest and greatest is the worse ever if you cant use it! Apple this is your issue - how about a fix before I switch to Samsung. This is ridiculous!!!

It's very unlikely given this is your 2nd new phone, it's the phone. It's way more likely you have something in your backup that is causing this. You can do something about it though. It will take more effort, but it's what you probably should have done with your first phone. And that's a total restore, not from backup. Restore the phone as new and bring apps over individually to avoid introducing anything corrupt. Then sync your photos, music, etc back to your phone.
Did that with the first phone, start second phone as new. I have done all this with no success.
You have some app which is running and eating up your battery. Which one is another matter, but somethings eating up battery as it's VERY unlikely you got two bad phones.
Have you gone to Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage to see what's being used by what?
i went through every thing they could suggest and there was not SW issues on the diag. I am not sure how else to diagnose and fix the problem. Any suggestions?
ita usually the lock screen or Pandora that has the most battery usage. day to day its a toss up as to which is the killer.
Pandora will eat a battery quickly. How much time do you spend on Pandora daily? There are times I use Pandora for a few hours and when I do, I'll plug my iPone or iPad into an outlet or the battery will go down fast, but that's to be expected.
Reset All Settings
Reset all settings by heading to Settings -> General -> Reset All Settings. Tapping ‘Reset All Settings’ clears out Wi-Fi passwords (so make sure you know yours before you do it), resets your wallpaper, and restores other settings to their defaults within the Settings app. It doesn’t delete any of the data on your iPhone. I've seen it fix problems with misbehaving apps. (Copied from payetteforward.com)
This fixed the same problem I was having with my phone almost immediately
WWife and I have brand new iPhone 6's with the same issue. Normal room temperature, no cases smothering coping surfaces, not being run with high brightness on screen etc., but if used for any extended time on a. call or using Skype or Face Time they get so hot it hurts your hand. No solutions provided by Support worked. Ironically, only way to solve issue was to buy Mophie case which had two improvements; extended battery life and insulated your hand from the blistering heat underneath. These are going back to Apple.
Hi! I have the same issue with facebook app. There are times I am not using the phone when I grab it from the table, it's super hot. And when I check the batt usage, it's facebook that's always on top. It even went up to 93% batt usage one time. Sometimes while using or after using facebook, my phone will turn very hot, and battery would drain really fasrt. I've done all the said solutions I found from the web, to the point I made a factory reset and created fresh account, still the same issue. I had this iphone 6 for only less than a month now. I'm frustrated as I use the facebook app a lot, and can't manage to uninstall it. Just wondering if you found any solution for this? I'm really hoping you'll reply. Thanks in advance!
Hi again! Just wondering if Apple replaced your overheating iPhone 6? We have the same issue that is. Really hoping you'll reply. Thanks!
HI, this happened to my iPhone 6 on sat.batt drain hot phone and batt goes down when charging. What the fix ???.
reboot the phone twice and it's fixed.when things like this happens 99% of the time just reboot / reset. I have never had a iPhone that had to go back to the store. Wise up users
I have found this issues with all iPhones over heating main reason is due to the rear camera running along with power hungry Apps seen phones go from 100% battery to 50% in minutes, due to the heat if not spotted before it can be shut down screens can get damaged due to heat separating the glass from the frames or battery expanding and forcing the screen from the frame, battery expanding is pretty rare mostly down to people using non standard iPhone chargers, personally I have had 3 phones that done this the 5, 5s and now my 6 all of them stopped heating up as soon as I killed the camera App, so now I keep my camera Apps in a folder so they can't be activated by mistake and always shut them down when I am finished.
have been having the same issue since I upgraded my iphone6+ to the latest software I think the latest software is to be blame for this
