iPhone 6 Plus, LTE reception issues?

Has anyone else been having issues with mobile reception on the iPhone 6 plus?

I work on a 9th floor surrounded by windows, where I used to get full LTE reception on my iPhone 5S, I now only get 2 bars (dots, whatever) on the iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 8. I have restarted, and reset network settings with no improvement.

I'm hoping an iOS 8 update will address this, but I'm not sure I can wait that long, as less ideal reception areas may drop signal and make the phone unusable. I'll wait a week or so and see about a replacement if it's a problem.

UPDATE: a subsequent reset & restart caused the signal to go up to 4 bars for a couple of minutes, but it is now back down to two again. This is very odd.

I have used the 6+ for several months, after using iphone fives. I have experienced reception problems on the 6 similar to those posted. I did not experience these on the 5.

I have done extensive testing in different locations, comparing reception of the 6+ vs 5. I am not looking at numbers bars (in the off chance that the display is erroneous) but rather testing coverage by calling both phones from a third phone. LTE setting = Data Only. Results: In a significant percentage of trials (30%+) the call got through to the 5 but went to voice mail on the 6. And yes, the 6+ displayed fewer bars than the 5, for what that is worth.

I have kept the OS up to date, but problem persists.

I went into Verizon to see what they could do. They only offered to give me a replacement 6+ which is not what I want. Alas, it seems I am stuck with this POS until the end of my contract.

Verizon mentioned that the new iPhone comes out this fall.

  • I believe this a hardware issue and cannot be fixed with OS updates.
  • I believe that Apple knows about this and will fix in the new iPhone version.
  • I believe those of us with iPhone 6's are stuck.

iPhone 6+ is a very cool device, but the worst telephone I have ever had.

Same issue here with iPhone 6s Plus in San Jose, CA, USA. I always seem to get 2 bars. In my immediate area, we have never had any issues. Now, I notice that when I'm driving on U.S. 101, on or around Blossom Hill Road or anywhere in South San Jose, for that matter, where the signal used to be outstanding, I get 2 bars and it takes forever for browser pages to load or connected apps to work. Absolutely horrible!!

I've owned my iPhone 6 plus for 18 months now and the whole time I've gotten terrible reception at my house. I just figured I was in a pocket of bad reception (even though I'm in an area of good coverage) because before that I had AT&T and that reception isn't generally good around here.

But recently someone stayed at my house who also has Verizon but has a Samsung phone. She had absolutely no problem. I, however, have regular dropped calls and often I can hear others but they can't hear me and I have to hang up. My dbs are regularly -110 to -116. Which is terrible.

I have received some support from Verizon, who suggested I turn off LTE. When I do, the dbs drop down to -90 to -102. So clearly the LTE is interfering with signal strength.

Apple, please address this issue. It's obviously a problem.

Oh, and visual voicemail only works about 60% of the time.

Thanks.

iPhone 6+ 64 gig, running on MTS (MB-Canada). I have had numerous issues with total loss of internet (but not cellular). Doesn't matter if I'm in the city or in the surrounding countryside (I live about 30 miles out of the city, but there's still LTE there).

I often use Siri when on the road to do voice-to-text etc over my car's bluetooth system, and I'll often hear, "Siri not available. Connect to the internet". There's been times where my girlfriend, using an iPhone 5C on the same carrier (MTS), is sitting right beside me and she has full LTE, no interruptions. Her phone can stream HD quality video while she's riding shotgun down the highway without ever a hiccup, but my phone keeps losing internet.

At my office in the city, my phone often falls down to Edge or GPRS connectivity, which is to say, utterly useless (can't even check text-only emails). I've been to the Apple store in town, to the Genius bar. They did a full factory reset twice on the phone. The carrier has replaced the SIM, and verified all network settings. I've done network resets, and rebooted the phone frequently. Toggling airplane mode on/off sometimes restores the signal, but usually I just wait a minute or two and then I get a zero or one bar LTE again.

Apple store said the next step was to swap out the phone, but given what I've read here, I doubt that will help. I love the iPhone, love Siri, so I'm going to wait it out for a bit longer. I came from Android to the 6+ because my experiences with Android phones were utterly frustrating.

Please, Apple, if this is just a software issue for the 6+, get it fixed! If it's hardware, figure it out so we can get our 6+'s replaced with "fixed" models in-store while they're still on warranty!

New data point. I had a 6 plus for a year that never had connection issues. Apple Had to replace it due to a warranty issue. The 6 plus they gave me as a replacement gets HORRIBLE connection! Rarely about 2 bars in places the old 6 plus never struggled to connect. Callers often can't hear me but I hear them. And Bluetooth randomly drops connection to speakers sitting right nearby, that never struggle with connection issues before. Totally weird. This 6 plus is possessed, and ****; and my other was great (until the motherboard crashed).

I have the same issue on my iPhone 6s! About 90% of the time, when I leave my WiFi ranges, I get thrown onto the AT&T Edge network instead of LTE. I toggle Airplane mode on and off and am immediately reconnected to LTE. I'm going to the Apple Store tomorrow to see if they know anything. I wonder if it has anything to do with WiFi calling. So frustrating... 😠
