IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

My iPad 2 became unusable after upgrading to iOS 8. Closing an app (single tap on the home button) and app switching (double tap) took forever to the point it felt like the the system had frozen. Everything else seemed to be running in slow motion. It was torture.

I spent the weekend reverting to iOS 7 and then reinstalling apps and reconfiguring everything. Looks like I may have lost the use of some apps too unless I can figure out how to revert them to previous versions (1Password, Pages, and American Airlines).

But my iPad is functional again. Lesson learned!

EXact same dillema here! Im frustrated with the freezing and slowness on my iPad 2 since IOS update. Also, my MacBook Pro is useless after latest software updates which typically are presented along with IOS upgrades in order to make Make compatible across devices. When I reported to Support online chat, I was treated like crap and the person never read my texts. They just kept saying I had to pay, and that IOS is not for MacBook Pro. I know that, but when I downloaded the software updates presented last week through App store specifically for Macs, my Pro is now only giving me a blank screen after white Apple Logo screen loads. It is as if it is being viewed from a remote computer. Nothing is working to fix it. So now, because Apple has gotten so apathetic to our small needs, I will have to fork out money for a computer that was working just fine because Apple will not admit there was a software glitch with Mac upgrades as well! Im beginning to have similar problems I had when I was a Windows user, for much more money!

Here's the list of the most annoying issues that affect me since updating my iPad 2 64GB w/Cellular iPad to IOS 8:

EXTREMELY SLOW - When opening apps, or switching between them - We are talking just the built-in apps. Mail, Safari, Settings....

Extremely slow Wi-Fi AND broadband. The Wi-Fi is the worst though. Horrible. Page load times are 2 to 4x slower than my wife's iPad.

Battery life reduced by at least 25%. Used to make it all day long, now I am having to plug it in.

Heat - It is working so hard that the processor is heating up. That can't be healthy for it, and surely the majority of the power issues stem from this.

Copy/Paste not functioning correctly between browser windows. Oh this is frustrating. I just want to paste the URL of one website I am on to Facebook, for instance. Even though I COPY, it's pasting in info I clipped a earlier in the day to one browser tab, but if I open another one, it will paste the correct information. You never know what you are going to get.

Cannot post a photo to facebook by hitting the camera icon when leaving a reply or making a post (using web browser version)... It starts the upload, then just stops. I *CAN* go to photos, then SHARE it to facebook, but that doesn't allow me to post a photo along with a reply.

Multiple app crashes per day. This I can deal with. It's nothing new, it's just more frequent. Safari and Mail seem to be the major culprits. It wouldn't be so bad except it takes 2-4 seconds to reopen the crashed app. Sometimes as much as 10 seconds.

And that's just the annoying ones....

Macworld’s Chris Breen has an excellent article on how to do revert to iOS 7

The website RedmondPie has a list of links to iOS 7.1.2

Unless you have a complete backup of your iOS 7 data on your Mac, be prepared to reinstall and reconfigure everything. And if you upgraded any apps that only work in iOS 8 it looks like you’re out of luck on getting the version that worked in iOS 7.

Good luck!

My iPad 2 is also very slow and choppy since updating to iOS 8. When I close an app, it returns to the home screen in a rather jerky and choppy manner. Prior to the update, the iPad 2 was entirely useable and suited to what I need it to do. It's a 64 GB version and is only using about half of it's total storage capacity. My iPhone 5, which I also updated, doesn't seem to have this problem but I surely hope the Mac upgrade happens quickly since iOS 8 killed the ability for the Mac and the iOS devices to sync properly due to the iCloud vs. iCloud Drive incompatibility that I only realized after the fact. This isn't what I expect from an Apple product.

Apple is notorious for allowing older hardware to update to the newest IOS version that renders it unusable, and then freezing the updates. For example, the iPhone 4 functioned perfectly well until they released IOS 7, at which point it became unstable, slow, and frustrating. They then halted updates. I had the same issue with my original iPad. It is an annoying thing when it happens, and they do not make provisions to revert back to the last usable version of the software. Instead, they allow you to upgrade to the point that your frustration leads you to buy a new device. There is always going to be a question of when you are going one update too far with older hardware. If you go back and look at old posts around the time of previous IOS updates, you will find this same issue has always occurred with an old generation of hardware. It is one of the most frustrating things they do.

Well, after about four hours of messing with my iPad yesterday, I can report that I am not much happier. Things got worse. The iPad started locking up, to where I couldn't even use the home button To get out of the safari browser, it would hang for 5 to 20 seconds and nothing would respond. Couldn't change tabs, or go home.

I attempted to roll back to iOS 7, which was okay, the firmware was fine, everything ran great, until I tried to recover my backup, which failed. In fact, it hung and told me I needed to take my iPad to apple.

I finally went back to iOS 8, without my backup... Just to test, and even without loading my own settings and apps, it was slower than iOS 7, by a very noticable margin.

my backup restored okay on the iOS 8 reload. And while the device is laggy, at least it is not locking up.

All of the odd bugs are still there, like the copy/paste issue... But, I can at least use the iPad again. Sigh.

very very frustrating!
