IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

HHow about a link to that Blog. I'm disgusted and I want Apple to be revealed for their negligence at my expense. Their "throw away and buy new" canned statements are snobbish and demeaning. It's time they got a visit from Humility. Perhaps they must fail before they see how grossly abusive their attitude is to a generation that made them who they are.

Have you followed some of the advice given in this thread? You don't say if you've tried any of it yet - the iPad2 is nearing end-of-support: that doesn't mean you should buy a new one. There are others on this thread who have been disabling what are essentially the multi-tasking overlays which Apple has been adding the iOS for a long time now (I might add, to "compete" with those who think a touchscreen device should be able to run more than one thing at once...).

So if you haven't, get into settings and disable background app refresh, the stupid parallaxing wallpapers, the zooming effects, the predictive text for the keyboard, spotlight search, and anything else which takes your fancy - make a note of what you turn off, see if performance improves AFTER a complete device powerdown / powerup having turned off those services, and then turn anything you're desperate for back on.

My guess is that the iPad2 is suffering teh same issues the iPhone4 did last year with iOS7: That apple didn't learn their lesson from that debacle is appalling - judging by the thread, there's more people with issues on iPad 2 than not, very few are on here saying their iPad is behaving OK, but most are saying it's slowed to a crawl.

You can hope that Apple will do a redux of iOS8 for iPad2, as they did iOS7 for the iPhone4 after widespread pressure from the public.

Oh - and if you plan to jump ship to android, be my guest. But I guarantee the user experience will be even worse: ever tried upgrading or migrating on android? It's a fractured, hideous mess with no continuity at all.

You must have missed the part where I said "We've tried every tip we have found. We have attempted to revert the most important of these devices to iOS 7, but the restore fails so no apps would be configured."

FTR I am an IT professional, this is what I do for a living. I support Windows, Linux and Apple products for a user base of over 1000 users, in 200+ companies, with hundreds of iPads and iPhones involved.

I'm kind of a big deal in the local scene due to a huge knowledge base and who I have worked for and with in the profession. I'm not just granny with an iPad for checking my gmail here. I have also been a developer and supported developers as well as being alpha and beta tester for many dozens of applications and hardware products since 1982. You can google my name and find out more.

I only tell you that to tell you this: I have invested 10-12 hours of my time into helping myself, my family, my friends and my customer base to prepare for and now to recover from the IOS 8 fiasco.

I have tried EVERY TIP that I have found on this thread, and on the many others. I have attempted to restore to iOS 7, I have shut down everything, I have hard reset. I have even brought up a freshly reloaded iPad 3 with just 8.0.2 on it, no apps other than what comes from Apple, and experienced the same things.

Jumping ship is going to be bad? I have been using Android devices since the first releases. I don't own a nice Android tablet, but you can bet that I will soon. I've upgraded from one firmware to another, A LOT, and yes, I've had my share of troubles with it. But not once of them offered the miserable user experience I am seeing with the best of the iPads we have upgraded to 8x.

Just on a point of act, you are out of date with migrating Android. I've just gone from Samsung S3 to S4. You connect the S4 to wifi and in a minute or two it is configured and apps migrated with data to the new device. Just like Apple. However, where devices will not run an upgrade properly, it is not made available by the maker. Hence my son's old phone still running Android 2.

I have tried everything everyone has suggested with my, and my mother's iPad 2s. They will be appearing on eBay as soon as our two Samsung 10.5s have arrived. I'm a long time Apple user (PC, phone and tablet) but the company's arrogance has lost me finally and with the iPads go my last Apple products and therefore my last post to this forum.

I'd like to say thanks to the people here who've tried to be so helpful. It hasn't worked but not for lack of trying and it has been appreciated.

I have written on this thread but would like to update my comments. After changing some settings, it is better. Not how I want it, but better. After reading all the comments it appears that other companies seem to have the same issues after a few seasons of upgrades and improvements. I will stick with Apple products. I will, perhaps, not upgrade so quickly next time one is offered. I have an iPhone 4 still as it meets all my needs but I won't be updating that to iOS 8. It is too late for the iPad. Going back to 7 seems like too much work.

I have done many of the recommended changes to my I-Pad that have been posted here. In the short term, it appears to have sped things up. We'll see if it holds through random and pointed uses.

Apple offers all of these new 'awesome' additions to the experience and I end up having to disable much of it just to get back to a basic form of utility...but hey, I have the "latest" version!

I have spend a week with Apple customer service escalation on this issue and my two-year-old iPad 2 + 3G, and have discovered that Apple no longer supports the "legacy" devices on IOS 8.0.2. Apple's response is, "Wait and see," and "What do you expect for free tech support."

Does anyone know if the wireless Apple keyboard works with other tablet brands? It might be time to upgrade.

Sep 30, 2014 3:35 PM in response to Edward.trayford

I'm not "quick to judge" - I've been working with Apple tech support and customer service for a week. Their response is that I should buy a newer device. They're very sorry, and they hope I have a nice day.

I've been an Apple user since I switched from PCs in 2003. Half of my office is Apple and half is PC. the PCs are cheap and buggy, but our IT people can fix anything that goes wrong. Apple products are expensive and rick solid until Apple f***s them up, and then their response is vapid assurances of doing everything they can to hep but no help.

I'm too old for this crap, and there are too many competitors out there. I'll give them until 8.0.3 to fix my iPad and then I'll buy a competitor, or just go back to a laptop.

Threats accomplish nothing.

Sep 30, 2014 3:45 PM in response to Philly_Phan

It's not a threat- Apple has nothing to fear from me. I'm one of hundreds of millions, and my failure to buy a new iPad won't affect them in the least. I'm just voicing my frustration with a company that has gotten my support and tens of thousands of my dollars over the past 11 years and exhibits no loyalty to the customer. The products have always been good but the customer service has always been hit or miss. I'll still buy Apple computers, and I currently have 7 iPhones, but the bloom is off the rose, and you just need to read the rest of the comments on this string to see that I'm not alone.

Sep 30, 2014 4:39 PM in response to pacoKAS

Like others, my iPad 2 (16 Gb, wi-fi only) is just not the same as it was under iOS 7. I am running iOS 8.0.2

Here's a list of steps that I've taken that have improved matters, though I still have trouble clicking through to hyperlinks on Safari.

After changing all of these settings, do a hard reset (hold the power button and the home button in for ~8 seconds). Let it boot up and reconnect, then repeat the hard boot once or twice again. I hope that you will find that your trusty iPad 2 is at least functional, if not a match before it got trashed with iOS 8.

So now my iPad is working at a level I consider marginal. But why Apple's engineers could not foresee these problems I don't know. Perhaps they're all kitted out with brand-new iPads, or they tested out iOS 8 on virgin iPad 2s that had not been loaded up with apps and contacts and such. In any case, I certainly will not be jumping on the Apple update bandwagon ever again. Instead I'm shopping around for what Samsung now has to offer. I know Android is not without it problems, but, after all the pre-release about iOS 8, I find Apple's behavior quite obnoxious. The company should be acknowledging that this was a screw-up and that they are going to provide their customers with a real fix or with a way back to iOS 7. And I don't mean just a re-install of iOS 7 (which would require re-installing all apps, settings, et cetera) but a way of going back to iOS 7 and then being able to use a backup created under iOS 8 to bring my machine back to where it was on September 16th.

SSo as a conscenes ... (I love how my new updated keyboard loves to add a double letter at the start of my sentences by the way) it appears the vast majority of iPad2 users have considerable issues due to Apple's latest release of IOS8 and its further failed upgrades.

To my own laughter, the only solutions that have had minimal effects on improving performance is for the user to basically manually go through every setting available and turn things off. Thus the end result is a blank screen, that responds to your touch producing further blank screens at a speed not quite as fast as your iPad previously ran (with multiple ACTUAL apps running) but fast enough that you feel compelled to maintain your loyalty to Apple because you love Steve Jobs.

if a car company sold you a car and said you would get 45 mpg then a couple years later upgraded the software to that car resulting in your car now getting 25 mpg ... Said car company would be run out of business in hours. My iPad2 64GB WIFI ran awesome till Apples amazingly pathetic upgrade turned it into a brick.. Where is the legal outcries to hold Apple responsible for degrading our iPads in an effort to make us buy newer, shinier ones???

I Guess we are supposed to be happy that it looks nice ... sitting on the table ... as long as we don't use it.

why has Apple just not stepped up and permitted iPad2 users the ability to revert back to IOS7? I suspect they could have simply said iPad2 users would be prevented the IOS8 upgrade and made us live with that.
