IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

Their objective from day one has been to convince a critical minimum number of iPad 2 owners as well as IPhone 4&5 users to give up and buy new iPads and iPhone 6. Their bean counters in the executive suite have calculated the critical mass, and apparently they have staked this final quarter of 2014 on it. The drop in stock price shows they missed the mark so far.

it seems a lot of Apple users are so emotionally wed to their choice of operating system they are oblivious to the fact that to keep any version of iOS 8 working they have to shut off not only the features which at one time made their product useful, but also those that protect the security of it.

I Will take glitchy but fixable to trendy and unusable any day. This is my last Apple product.

Like others, my iPad 2 (16 Gb, wi-fi only) is just not the same as it was under iOS 7. I am running iOS 8.0.2

Here's a list of steps that I've taken that have improved matters, though I still have trouble clicking through to hyperlinks on Safari.

Yep, I have done every step, and others, and attempted to revert back, but still slow, on multiple iPads. Today I was having this discussion with a client who has over 50 iPads and iPhones. Ranging from 4s iPhone to the latest, and iPad 2 to the latest. Without talking to me, they decided everything should be updated. After doing so, they have had zero good experiences, and all bad experiences. You ever try talking to a client who has dozens of devices and telling them that what once worked great, will no longer work well? You think that *I* am unhappy? You think that *you* are unhappy. Oh my, they are livid.

Their IT director decided that he would take a set number of them back to iOS 7x, and did so this afternoon, and viola, they work perfectly again. Tomorrow his day is going to be spent reverting them ALL back as having differing levels of non-functioning or malfunctioning devices is too much for their limited IT staff to handle. It's just easier to lose everything and go back in time.

Yes, he reports that many of the test bed of devices failed to restore backups. So, just like me, they are starting over, downloading all apps, and reconfiguring them as if it were a new device.

Fortunately for them, they only use the built-in apps, and one other 3rd party app for their business. Every other app was loaded by employees, and is unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

WWhat is with the capitalization and repeating words and characters?

i Have discovered that my shortcuts keep locking up,Safari. If I type something from my shortcuts on ios 7 I could Correct it and keep going. now I do not have the opportunity to correct it. The ipad locks up and I need to wait 15 seconds before I can kill safari and relaunch it

I Find that if I "select all" and try to copy, no go until I do it a second time.

I hate typing my name, address, email addresses etc over and over so I use two letter shortcuts. Guess, that done now that I "updated"

we have too many Apple products in my family to keep, dealing with this, crap. Forced hardware upgrades are way too expensive And just **** me off.

A Simple, warning for ipad,2 users would have sufficed. Then I would have stuck, with iOS 7 and upgraded my iPad 2 in an orderly manner rather than being left with this experience.

I Will start migrating from Apple now. I just can't deal with this crap. Have another life to live.

SOrry for for the terrible spelling and grammar. I can't be bothered to keep editing apples mistakes.

My iPad mini has become unbearable. Very slow and laggy, Safari has become utterly useless (video playback being the most frustrating...it just doesn't work).

Also, switching screen orientations has become really sticky. At first I thought it was a sensor issue, but then noted that the problem started the day I updated to iOS 8.

Pretty disappointed.

This is a very helpful post so thanks.

It's pretty sad when we have to go through all of these workarounds, disables, and avoidances just to use an iPad 2 that was perfectly fine before Apple issued an update. Even sader is the fact that, to date, they haven't acknowledged the problem, offered a fix, or indicated that they were working on one.

Might I suggest that they at least come up with a "downdate" that can be installed, reverting the iPad 2s back to the last version of ios 7. I am surely not going to jump to update my iMac or Macbook Pro to Yosemite when it arrives. Goodness knows what that will mess up.

I am having similar issues with 8.0.2 on BOTH my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. Slow switching between apps, copy & paste issues, lagging, freezing, delayed orientation changes, excessive heat. It has been a nightmare. I have a 6+ on order, to be delivered in late October. I am tempted to cancel and buy an Android phone.

Apple, are you listening? Please admit the problem and allow downgrading to 7!

The copy/paste error has been incredibly frustrating. What is going on with Apple? These are just sloppy mistakes.

While the copy/paste thing affects me constantly since I have to quote data from web pages (our vendors) in emails to clients, but hey, I have a Windows PC that I use now to get around that. I just fire up the notebook and the problem is solved.

My main complaint is the slowness of these iPad 2/3s after upgrading to 8.0.0 and now 8.0.2. I am not satisfied at all.

My work-around is to not use the iPad unless I absolutely have to. I used to turn on Waze when I got in the car, now I don't bother. I used to "check-in" when I got places via FB/4SQ, etc... Now I don't bother. I used to post on facebook. Now it is too much of a hassle.
Look at all the time I am saving.

Thanks Apple...

Message to APPLE!!

Please fix the performance issue ASAP. I depend on my iPad and iPhone for my livelihood and will be forced to move to Samsung if it isn't fixed by the end of the week.

I Sincerely doubt it is going to get fixed this week. I could be wrong. I use my iPad for work and the frustration level is so high that now when I am in a clients office, I leave the iPad in the car and use my HTC smartphone to take notes. It's faster anyway since it supports swype, but the screen is so small that I have to enlarge the text I typed just to read it. Sigh.... I just want to work.

Apple never got the "work" part. That's why they dont understand the problems theyve caused. They told me streaming functionality shouldn't be affected like I care about the latest episode of Gossip Girl or downloading the new U2 album. I told the Customer Service Escalation guy I needed my ipad 2 for a business trip coming up and he completely missed the concept- like it was a non-sequitur. He offered me $70 worth of accessories to go away.

I Just found another issue with the new iOS 8 update on my iPad 3. I am sure this error is also present on the iPad 3. Video playback on Safari is really bad. Many times videos do not start playing when I select the play button. Many issues on pages that used to work flawlessly like cnn.com. The same pages work fine on my other iPad 2 that I haven't updated to iOS 8.

this is very frustrating!

i Tried to use my iPad yesterday during a meeting and I had to resort to a traditional paper notepad. Not very convenient since I keep all my notes on my iPad for easy searching.

we need an estimate from Apple on when all these issues are going to be corrected. I hope Apple is reading all these messages posted on this forum. We at least want and deserve an acknowledgment from Apple of all these issues with iOS 8.
