IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade

After IOS 8 upgrade many aplications ( Safari, Facebook, etc) load very, very slow (comparing with 7 version) , with a significant delay of more than 10 seconds...

Who can I solve this problem? Any workaround?

PD

Apple should better test the software before delivering.

Thanks.

Do not ever - ever joke about Ebola!

This is, of course, off-topic, but in reality I had all the "symptoms" of Ebola, except one ... :-) ... which should tell you that medical professionals are going to have one heck of a time separating out true Ebola from a bad case of flu ... and we're going straight into flu season now. And what I'm saying is no joke, as they really are going to have hard time really differentiating between these two things.

But what if they sit the fridge upside down? 🙂

I had dozens of people who were holding it upside down then....

The *majority* of our clients with iDevices were suffering from the same problems. Enough that they started tickets with us. Enough that they spent hours upon hours on the phone, hours upon hours at the Apple store.

We now have 202 open tickets.. Half of the tickets related to iOS 8.0.0 through 8.1 have now been closed after upgrades to 8.1.1 in the last 24+ hours. Tickets where clients had reloaded, and reloaded and reloaded, and started from scratch with a fresh load and ONLY Apple supplied apps are now closed.

Tickets where the Geniuses were stumped. Tickets where a slew of problems were keeping them from doing their work.

I expect that by Monday, we will be down to 100 or less open tickets.

The mass produced hardware and iOS was indeed malfunctioning on a very wide level. And the update to the update to the update to the update to the update has helped satisfy these users. They are not *all* 100% happy, but they are happy enough to let me close the tickets.

When you see dozens upon dozens of people experiencing the same thing, there's a problem. Trust me on this.

I just left a meetup where another IT company rep was and we were talking about the same thing. They are larger than us by far, and he said they had over a 1000 calls they were unable to resolve, all related to iOS 8x.

All these people must have been using them upside down all this time! Why didn't we think about this!!?!??

iPads are different fran fridges. (Check for images on Google). In fact iPad screens actually rotate to self right themselves if they are held upside down. I don't think fridges can do that yet, but I may be wrong.

Star Traveller, you make an interesting observation, and I appreciate you have put in a lot of effort trying to clarify this issue.

For that I thank you.

"if you produce a device (whatever it is ... car, refrigerator, TV, desktop computer or mobile device) ... if ONE PARTICULAR MODEL works a certain way, they ALL will work the exact same way, aside from "factory defects" (of which quality control should get rid of before getting to the public)."

If you could predicate the above with "on as long as you provide the same input", then I'd agree with you. I'm presuming Turing would as well.

"THIS PRINCIPLE (and "LAW" if you will)"

I'd prefer "in principle".

"The vast and overwhelming majority of the installed user base is having no problems at all. What we're dealing with here is simply a small minority".

Apple has an enormous number of customers. Absolute numbers may be large even if percentages are small. Do you have the figures to hand?

Petermac, I don't know whether moderators have the exclusive right to post nonsense or to insult users. Many people here complained about poor performance of their iPads 2 after updating to OS8. Apple responded to this issue and released 8.1.1. In the meantime, you, and another person that I don't want to name here tried to downplay the problem and put the blame on the users ("they sit the fridge upside down" was just the most recent comment, perhaps you remember). So please, stop playing Calvinball.

That's a huge reduction in 24hrs. ALL of my oldest tickets are now closed. The first people who reported problems when upgrading to 8.0.0 are resolved enough to close the tickets.

It's important to note that I'm up to 23 who's tickets could have been closed earlier - they replaced those devices and didn't bother letting me know.

184 open tickets remain.... I have not received word from any of them.... Now up to 82 of these original tickets who resolved the problems by replacing their tablets.

I have confirmation from 2 people of over 200 tickets which I have closed that claim the 8.1.1 has not fixed the slowness enough to let them do their work. Both are on iPad 2s, both have not done a full factory fresh load. I'll help them with that on Monday and see if it fixes it.

So for all of the HUNDREDS of reloads, and hundreds of attempts to fix these iPads since the release of 8x initially and the updates to the updates... The only thing that has helped these people is the new release of 8.1.1.

Just wondered if anyone knows if Microsoft sorry Apple actually read any of this.

Or is their attitude / business plan to screw their customers into buying a newer model every few years.

Think I may jump ship to android devices in the future. Despite their problems i'm sure i wont feel like i have just been mugged.

Perhaps Tim Cook could tell us how many people have done the same at the next WWDC. Instead of how many devices the have sold, they could mention customer satisfaction ratings in the real world.

Just a thought.

I thought the same then after Apple released 8.1.1 for the small handful of people who were having problems I changed my mind. Now that's customer service, all those $ spent for just a few users. Wow. Unless what I saw being peddled by some on the extent of the issue was just BS. Thank you Apple for trying to sort this out, my 2 is not as good as before but after 8.1.1 it a least works. Just next time stand up and tell your customers you have an issue and your working it, it goes down with your customer base so much better. If I have abused the Terms of use in some people's opinion. Oh dear, oh my, never mind.

Hi everyone,

My first post here so hope I'm posting correctly etc.

my wifes iPad 2 is appallingly slow after iOS 8 updated and has not improved since the latest update 8.1.1 which aimed to address it. i can't even open a webpage its that bad, and thats after completely resetting it and deleting all contents. Basically its unusable now!

I've spent hours on this and trawled the internet and this forum. Performance is still terrible. 293,196 views & 1000 replies alone in this conversation/post can't be wrong. Sort it out Apple please its not good enough.

In spite of my emails and phone calls, I have not received a follow-up for 49 people who have open tickets. ALL others are now closed.

All of them report that there is still lag over the previous 7x they had, but that they can work with this. Well, 119 of the original 400+ tickets don't report that - they replaced their tablets. A solid 25% ditched their problems by either upgrading to a new iThing or by ditching them all together and moving to other platforms.

I still have phrases such as "like moving through mud", "reminds me of dialup", "nowhere near enjoyable", "very disappointing performance" that are attached as notes to these closed tickets, but they let me close them anyway. That's good for me, as it really messes up our statistics. Not so good for them.

I will auto-close these remaining tickets if I don't hear from them by December 1st, but if I do get more that close them out, I will try to post a follow-up.

Why do I care? I do want people to understand that 8.0.0-8.1 iOS releases had major flaws that affected nearly every single one of our business users, enough for them to open tickets with us. Enough for them to spend hours on the phone, and at the Apple store. Enough for them to replace their tablets.

But I also want people to know that with the release of 8.1.1, these same people (the ones who did not ditch their tablet) are somewhat happier and back to doing some work.

It's important to note that not a single person. Not. One. Single. Person.... Has said "This is so much better than 7x". Nobody has said it was faster, offered important improvements that help them do their work, or that it fixed anything that was not working for them.you

So, if you are reading this, and you use your iPad 2/3/mini in a business environment, it is my personal recommendation that you do not update to 8x from 7x.... Your mileage may vary...
