Why does Siri bluetooth connection in 2008 Toyota Prius with iOS 8 terminate outgoing call with message "call terminated by network" on Prius screen

Since installing iOS 8 , we can't get Siri to make outgoing calls with the Prius Bluetooth. Incoming calls work, but we get a message on the Prius screen, "call terminated by network" whenever we tell Siri to call out. She will recognize who we're calling, but as soon as the dialing starts, we get the call terminated message.

Any similar experience or ideas?

Dear Flippant1,

Regrettably I don't have time to do a full-on campaign for this. I'm in the middle of moving my residence and also my daughter had a wedding in January. Just don't have the bandwidth right now. With all I have going on it's regrettable that haven't been able to use driving time to stay on top of contractors who need to do work on my house, and wedding planning and also my clients. Needed Apple to be proactive and solve this independently. They didn't.

I know how to be very persistent and grab the attention of senior management. It's very time consuming but it works. My iPhone is not as important as my house or my clients or my daughter's wedding. I need to sit this one out while someone else grabs the bull by the horns.

Will test 8.1.3 later today.

Why can't I get to the "new discussion"? At some point, I want to know if 8.1.3 (or most likely the next version) fixes the Bluetooth (and wifi) issues. My Prius connection is still dead; Connection to our 2013 Honda has problems as well: as others have reported with other model/make autos, the phone dials, but is completely quiet until the call is answered. on our Honda van, the call dials, then the radio returns to playing (as if the call was dropped); the phone shows the call is dialing. You don't hear the ringing. Only other sign it's still working is if you get an answer: then the radio drops out and the call comes through the hands free. But at least Siri will dial for you.

I am not optimistic. i talked with one AppleCare Senior Tech and, while he was initially going to stick with me until the problem was solved, he promptly disappeared after giving me a link to engineering. That link would accept only so many characters and guaranteed that one would not get a response. All I wanted to find out is whether or not they were working on a fix or whether I should try to get an Android phone if AT&T would take this one back. There was no problem for the past years with an IPhone 4, my 2009 Prius, and 7.1.2. This is not a Toyota problem. This is a problem with the new OS. I talked to a second AppleCare senior tech and he said he would get back to me. That should happen by tomorrow. We shall see, but as a Mac user for 30 years, I have to say that as good as the technologies are, the customer experience provided by its corporate culture has too often been something else. I had hoped that had changed in the era of the Genius Bar, etcetera, but I'm getting that old bad feeling again in this situation.

Add this 2006 Prius owner to the list. My Bluetooth worked flawlessly with Siri for years until iOS 8 came out. Since then I haven't successfully placed a single call through it with Siri.

I care more about a rat's a__ than I do about Apple's whiny "Toyota broke it first" excuse. I'm a consumer. I don't care which company is more technically "correct". I care about being able to use a hands-free device while hands-free. Apple engineers had it working before, then they broke it. They need to fix it.

Got a response from engineering via AppleCare Sr. Advisor. Engineering says it has several reports of this issue and is investigating And that there may be a fix in a future release, not ruling out putting the blame on Toyota and not providing a fix. i made a further query and got back that nothing more can be revealed at this time so I requested that all of my communications be sent to engineering - which was agreed to. My prior experience with Apple tells me that somebody has to get to an Apple executive down on the Infinite Loop before anything happens, including meaningful communication on the company's part. Hope I'm wrong.

I have seen nothing on this thread for ten days and have no information from Apple other than what was shared before - which was effectively nothing. Maybe the company should consider providing customer service when it produces a glitch rather than going on to the next product. Maybe one will have to buy an Apple car to get hands free calling with the phone.

Nothing new. Apple appears to have abandoned this issue altogether. Everyone appears to be waiting. No apparent help of feedback from Apple support. I'm waiting for the next update (after reports from others that the IOS works). If no success, I'm moving to Android or windows phone once this now worthless junk dies. I can no longer tolerate the sheer arrogance of Apple on this issue. Nor can I continue to have to pull over to the side of the road to make a "hands-free" call. SIRI is now the biggest headache.

I'll hold onto my iPhone 5 and my spouses iPhone 5 (no SIRI connection to 2007 Prius; FUBAR in my 2013 Honda van; everything worked fine before the update). I'm waiting for the inevitable lawsuit against Apple for wrongful death (yes. someone will die because they have to manually dial in a car where the could use hands free pre-IOS 8...smart attorneys will figure this one out. It's amazing that Apple's attorneys haven't). Then follow-up the class action lawsuit will help me get my money back for the sheer madness I've been through dealing with several IOS 8 issues.

And a final follow-up. I would have answered this from my iPhone, but it seems that I have to go to a Windows 7 PC to write a response. It's another wonderful benefit of IOS 8: I hit "Reply" on the Apple support site and nothing happens when I'm on my iPhone.

I have the same issue with my 2008 Lexus GS350. It started immediately after I updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1.3. Two days ago I bought an iPhone 6 (iOS 8.1.2) and it does the exact same thing. Today I chatted and called Apple to discuss the matter. They opened a case # and the Apple rep told me: " So since the Siri bluetooth connectivity issue still persist, certainly I’d be glad to have your case escalated for our Apple Engineers to further research for a resolution."Apple is aware of this concern and our Apple Engineering team is working to get this resolve as quick as possible." Whether or not that is true, remains to be seen. I encourage everyone who has not done so already, to call or chat with Apple and get a case started about this issue. Hopefully the more people who complain, the more apt Apple will be to fix this issue.

I am hoping that the iOS 8.2 release finally fixes the issue. I just found this on 9to5mac dot com:

From the internal release notes:

Bug Fixes

Fixes an issue in Maps that prevented navigating to some favorite locations

Addresses an issue where the last word in a quick reply message wasn’t autocorrected

Fixes an issue where duplicate iTunes purchased content could prevent iCloud restore from completing

Resolves an issue where some music or playlists didn’t sync from iTunes to the Music app

Fixes an issue where deleted audiobooks sometimes remained on the device

Resolves an issue that could prevent call audio from routing to car speakers while using Siri Eyes Free

Fixes a Bluetooth calling issue where no audio is heard until the call is answered

Fixes a timezone issue where Calendar events appear in GMT

Addresses an issue that caused certain events in a custom reoccurring meeting to drop from Exchange calendar

Fixes an certificate error that prevented configuring an Exchange account behind a third-party gateway

Fixes an issue that could cause an organizer’s Exchange meeting notes to be overwritten

Resolves an issue that prevented some Calendar events from automatically showing as “busy” after accepting an invite.

I'm having the same issue. This is pretty ridiculous. It USED to work. It doesn't now. And actually hasn't worked since I got my 2010 Prius.

And here's the irony.

It worked in my 2006 Prius, but alas....it got totalled when a lady wasn't paying attention to driving and looking at her phone and she rear-ended me.

I think it's kind of strange that something as fundamental as this - and REALLY what SIRI was designed for - stopped working.

I have an iPhone 6 with 8.1.3 and a 2010 Prius.

I'm not holding out much hope.....

I DID hear of a workaround by plugging your iPhone into the USB port of the car.
