Why does Thunderbolt Update 1.2 keeping downloading?

This update has kept downloading every second day the past week. I have a MacAir

This issue was covered in previous discussions in June 2013.

The update appears to be installed. I get the necessary installation bar, gray screen and the restart tone (twice).

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

YES!!!!

This did solve my problem. Tried a few reboots and connected / disconnected my TB just to make sure. After SMC reset the annoying failing update went away. Though the Firmware Version is 22.2 not 26.2.... Hmmm... whatever. Let's see if the annoying update 1.2 ever comes back.

...now, where is this "This helped me" button? @bediddleby's answer seemed to clear out my problem. at least for now.

Thanks!

So if you attempt to install the update, what happens? Does it appear to do it? Does it reboot your Mac? Mine would always tell me that the update failed - either without rebooting, or if it did reboot, the failure message came up afterwards. Did you download and try the manual update found here?

Thunderbolt Firmware Update v1.2

If that doesn't work, do you get an error?

Finally, did you do both an SMC and PRAM reset? I didn't mention it, but keep your laptop open the whole time and work from its screen rather than in clamshell mode where the Thunderbolt is your only display. I'll summarize the whole process that was successful for me here:

1. Shutdown laptop, disconnect everything except power. If any other Thunderbolt devices are attached to the display, disconnect them.

2. Open laptop, and do the SMC reset.

3. Do the PRAM reset.

4. Boot laptop (still with nothing attached except power.)

5. Connect Thunderbolt display but leave laptop open (as primary screen).

6. Install the update.

7. If successful, it should reboot your laptop and you'll get a progress indicator (though it doesn't actually say anything about the firmware update.)

8. It reboots again normally.

9. Check firmware, should be 26.2 for the display.

10. Reconnect any other Thunderbolt devices to the display, if you had any.

If that doesn't work, then the problem must be different than mine. Good luck.

Manual update tells me that: "Your computer is already up to date."

Thanks for the detailed steps. But that did not help either. My MacBook is the first generation Retina, and was updated to Mavericks and then to Yosemite. Problems started with update to Yosemite. TB is not the only problem unfortunately, there are others (outside of this thread)

Do not know if this makes (have made) any difference but I have re-ran the steps show by @bediddleby, only this time I followed it more closely, in particular the step 5 Connect Thunderbolt display but leave laptop open (as primary screen), the only step I did not do the time before. The difference was that this time the installer prompted me to re-boot the system. And when it did it actually ran an installation of some sort, and after a reboot it took it's sweet time doing something... Anyway. the Firmware is now 23.4, not 22.2. The update prompt has not been back. But I have been fooled before. Let's see if it comes back in a few days...
