iPhone 6 Plus - Require Passcode Immediately Only?

On my old iPhone 5, running iOS 8.0, there are three options under "Require Passcode": "Immediately", "After 1 minute" and "After 5 minutes".

However, on my new iPhone 6 Plus, only the option "Immediately" is showing up. I do not want to input my passcode or use the fingerprint reader all the time, and I prefer to have a delay before the phone locks up. Why are the other two options missing? What is going on?

Thank you.

I agree with your complaint about it 100%. I just got my Plus today so I am still trying to decide if I will leave the Touch ID on for unlocking purposes, but right now I am leaning toward tiring it off in order to have the functionality that you described. I like being able to swipe on a text message or email in the lock screen to go directly to the app.

I feel exactly the same way. I was really excited about using Apple Pay, but now I do not plan to use it because of this issue...

Thank you for the response, Chris. Agreed that it seems to be a security feature, but I do wish Apple would leave decisions such as this up to the end user.

I hit the lock button each time I put the phone in my pocket or set it down, etc, to turn the screen off and conserve battery life. When a new event comes in, I swipe it to go right to that app and deal with it. Moving my thumb back down to the home button every time I do this is irritating. I know it only takes a few seconds, but I may respond to 100 or more events per day. This really adds up and is definitely slowing me down.

I realize I can disable Touch ID to get my passcode timeout settings back, but I absolutely love the Touch ID feature and upgraded from my 5 in large part because of it. Hopefully Apple will listen, as I'm far from the only one irritated by this.

This feature is causing me to use an extreme amount of battery life. I was wondering why after I added the apple pay to my phone my battery seemed to be draining faster on the iPhone 6 so I looked at my battery usage and the home & lock screen use a large percentage of battery. RIDICULOUS!! Turning off apple pay… I also do not have the ability to change the amount of time to lock screen, so annoying.

Hi dave3731,

I too have the same issue and completely understand the inconvenience of this situation. In fact I came across this thread when searching to see how I could change the "require pass-code immediately" option. As you mnetioned, we shouldn't have to choose between the Touch ID option and the screen lock duration. No matter what the reason (security or what not), it should be left up to the user to decide. It may not seem like a big deal, but as you noted, having to unlock the screen using Touch ID immediately after turning off the screen 100s of times during the day can get annoying.

I have found what I consider to be a nice compromise.

I switched off Use touchscreen for phone unlock. It is just as quick to put in the code, and I am used to that anyway, so I still have the options to Require password after 15 mins which is my preferred choice. I get 6 options from immediately up to 4 hours as I upgraded from a 4S and imported all my settings from that phone.

But leaving it on for the iTunes and App store means that is very easy to get into compared to putting in password.

Coming from an iPhone 5 with a 15 minute delayed lock, I found this to be quite annoying. I couldn't believe there wasn't at least the option for delayed Touch ID lock, regardless of it being less secure. It is our device once we open it and use it. This should be left up to the end-user and not Apple. I have already left feedback and hope everyone does the same so we can get this feature going.

Last week I replaced my iPhone 5 with a 6 and found the same issue. When you have a number of automated monitoring systems sending you emails in waves, the tiny bits of time that it takes for the touch sensor to unlock can add up to be pretty annoying. Though I personally would never disable security on my devices, it's probably enough to make others want to. At the very least, I'm left with the decision about whether or not to use this great new fingerprint security or stick with a complex passcode that isn't required quite as often during times when I'm constantly picking up the device for alerts, etc.

I too just left feedback about my dismay over the issue and requested that this option be re-evaluated for the next IOS point release.

I've found TouchID to be faster than swiping to unlock. If you're having problems with TouchID, try redoing your fingerprints.
