iPhone 6 Plus - Require Passcode Immediately Only?

It's actually not just as fast.....it often fails to read my finger print unless I have my finger placed exactly the way it wants it....it's much faster to actually just type my 4 letter pass code in even when the finger print is successful on the first try....there's easily a 2 second delay to read it.

It's not a good decision by apple as I will now be disabling the finger print reader which is an excellent security feature 😟

i'd like to hear apple's reasoning. there may be a good reason to set it this way, but i just haven't realized it. perhaps it has to do with new features such as apple pay.

i had the same reaction you did, calebfromhamilton. then i discovered that i needed to push on the button, not just place my finger there. that did the trick. now i don't have any problems with recognition and feel gratified when getting in is so easy.

Apple isn't known for giving reasons and they certainly never do it on these forums. Sorry.

yes, meg, apple is not known for giving reasons. that makes me trust apple less. it seems that microsoft was more transparent. they told me when they were dealing with a problem (an update). for me at least, suspicion grows in a vacuum.

The difference is that this isn't a "problem", it's the way the system was designed. There's nothing to deal with.

Is this the right forum for telling Apple that this was a bonehead move? If I set my iPhone down and leave it behind, I want it to lock; if I set it down for a minute and then want to use it again, I do not want it to lock. The touch ID feature does not work every time I try it, and I end up having to constantly enter my passcode. It's really annoying. Why don't users have the same 3 options that we had prior to the touch ID feature?

If your TouchID is that problematic, you should have it looked at.

Setting your phone down and walking away from it, even for 'a minute" is frequently unwise.

I found an even better solution! Turn on both Touch ID and the passcode. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Home Button and choose Rest Finger to Open. Now when your phone is locked, you can either:

1) touch the home button to unlock your screen

OR

2) press the home button to access the passcode.

What a relief!

Adding to my message to clarify: this does not "solve" the problem literally, as the phone is still locking immediately. But it solves the annoyance, and the motions one goes through to activate Touch ID are the same as if the phone were not locked.

Thank you for that tip. As you suggested, I turned off the Touch ID and my options came back. I still left the Touch ID on for apps.

Turn off iphone unlock for "Use touch id for" and you will have the other options back!

This only works on a 5s if you delete your fingerprints that are stored.

Delete and update your figerprints.
