Settings app crashes when managing stored Music (iTunes Match)

Since upgrading to iOS8 I haven't been able to see the expandable view you get by heading into Settings > Usage > Manage Storage > Music. As soon as I tap "Music", the settings app crashes.

It's not harware related because it happened on my iPhone 5S and now on my 6.

So far I've tried:

1. Restoring device with iCloud Backup / iTunes Backup

2. Restoring + setting as a new device

3. Restarted phone countless times, closing all the apps in the background, etc

4. Called Apple. The rep just didn't know how to help me.

I've checked on other people's phones with iTunes Match and their phones do not crash like mine. I'm assuming this problem is Apple account related. Any clues?

I bought a 64gb phone to store most of my music using Match, but now I can't manage it. The only hope I have right now is to wait until Apple magically fixes it with an upcoming iOS update.

Well, I also was not born with this knowledge 😉 but I googled around and found how to do that. I am going to help a bit, though.

Here's an example of how to retrieve a crash log http://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/retrieving-crash-reports-on-ios the ones you are looking for are those that belong to the "Settings" app (not Chrome), and they are also listed according to the time of the crash, so they will be easily spotted.

To report the bug go to http://bugreport.apple.com/ use your Apple ID to log and filling the fields is self explanatory.

Hope this is a start and puts you on the right path.

what I found out while trying to figure out the issue on my iPhone 6plus was that she I erased all music and went to download music back it had four copies of the same song (i belive this occured because of how the song was stored after purchase it shows the album with the song then it shows the song by it self) so after hitting download all it said it downloaded both to my copies to my iPhone but there was only one copy in music ,and the crash still happens so this time I deleted all music off iPhone and selected only the music i wanted which was all but the copies and there you have not more crash

i hope this helps many of you

Hi everybody,

I wanted to share that the problem no longer exists.

I don't know exactly how it solved itself but I will explain what I did. Because I appreciated people replying to me.

I decided on manually adding songs instead of by album synch and I deleted all songs from my iPhone and put the selected ones back on it.

And can now view them in managing storage in the settings app.

It might have to do with specific files or currupted meta data.

Thanks again.

Glad to hear that you're no longer having the issue, but to be clear, this problem very definitely still exists. It's still an issue with my iPhone, and frankly you having to manually manage the tracks is a work-around, and saying that it no longer exists because you've found a work-around is one of the ways Apple is able to continue to get away with bad software and customer service.

Yes you're right, I forgot to say the problem doesn't exists anymore for me.

It shouldn't be necessary for me to work around it.

Just to be clear, I didnt add the songs manually because of this problem. I did it because I wanted it that way and that the problem was solved was a positive consequence of doing so.

Of course it remains important Apple addresses this bug anyway.

One of the great features I like about iOS is that it works right out the box.

It would be a shame to loose that perk.
