iPhone 6 screen easily scratched?

Have been taking EXTREMELY good care of my 6+, but the corners already have visible scratches. Anyone else experiencing this?

IT'S ABSURD!!! the iphone 6 clearly has a flaw & apple needs to step up & fix it for all of us! I had a 4 that dropped more times that I can count. it took a beating & kept on ticking, as they say. I bought my iphone 6 last Monday & Saturday I simply swiped up from the lock screen to take a picture it flew out of my hand & broke. I went into apple today & they were useless. let me say I have been a fan & loyal user for longer than I can remember & have always appreciated how apple has taken care of it's customers & the quality products they put out, but not this time! out of 6 people I know with an iphone 6, 4 have broken screens within less that 2 weeks of owning their phone...RIDICULOUS!!!! one of my friends has a protective cover with a lip on it so that the screen should never meet another surface. she was trying to wipe off a smudge the other day & realized it was a crack that went across the entire middle of her phone. she doesn't even remember ever dropping it so she's not sure when or how it happened. I've always sung the praises of apple & have been a die hard fan. now I'm just angry! if it was just me than I would completely understand but it is clearly a prevalent problem & apple needs to step up & fix it & support their customers!!!

Wow, you and your friends are unusually unlucky. I have two iPhone 6. There are five in my office and I know many others who have iPhone 6. None are reporting scratches. None have cracked screens. But you dropped yours and there is more screen on iPhone 6 and any phone that is glass that is dropped, can break. Your anger seems misdirected. You should be mad at yourself that you dropped your phone. But you likely won't like that comment. No, I guess you won't. Accidental damage has never been covered by Apple. Never. This is why I always spend the $99 Apple charges for AppleCare+. I've never dropped my phone, but if I did and it broke, which simply wouldn't be unexpected, Apple would give me a replacement for $79, up to two times over a two year period. Sometimes insurance can be a wise investment.

well clearly you don't know me too well, b/c I don't mind your comment at all. I was mad at myself. I always buy apple care as well b/c I know I can be rough on phones, I'm not in denial of that by any means! I'm actually a very laid back easy going person & it takes a lot to get me riled up. I was only angry at myself until I started discovering I wasn't alone. I went into apple today. had a genius bar appointment & everything. I follow the rules. interesting fact...if you don't have apple care they will still replace the phone, since they aren't doing screen replacements yet, for $99. so after talking to several employees & the manager, it's a common problem. that's what riles me up. I'm far from alone in this issue & to me that means there is a problem. I am glad you & your friends haven't had issues, but from I'm seeing online & have personally experienced you are the exception & not the rule, not the other way around. I hope you continue to have good luck with your phone, no sarcasm intended, I sincerely wish you the best.

Has Apple actually confirmed they are using Gorilla Glass on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus? I remember during the keynote people thought it was strange they referred to it as "ion infused" glass, rather than the Gorilla Glass brand name everyone recognizes. Also, the company everyone thought was going to provide the sapphire cover lens for the iPhone 6, GT Advanced, just filed bankruptcy. Apparently, Apple loaned them a few hundred million dollars to set up a sapphire production line, and now they are bankrupt because the revenues didn't materialize In 2014. GT Advanced is still under contract to provide the sapphire for the watch, so what happened? How could they go bankrupt if the plan was only to supply sapphire for the watch all along? Does Apple call it "ion infused" glass on the iPhone 6 because they dumped sapphire at the last minute, and went with an inferior product to Gorilla Glass? Or, is there really Gorilla Glass on the iPhone 6, and all these reports of scratches are bogus? I've been waiting to buy an iPhone 6 Plus, but with all the quality complaints I'm having second thoughts.

I don't really care about the sapphire. While sapphire is scratch proof, it is more prone to shattering, which is why military grade watches don't use it. Better to have a scratched watch in combat than a shattered watch that doesn't work at all. What I'm wondering is if Apple dumped sapphire for the phone at the last minute, would the supply chain have time to phase in Gorilla Glass so quickly? I mean we are talking about a huge quantity of Gorilla Glass. It just doesn't make sense for GT Advanced to go bankrupt when Apple is funding them and the watch hasn't launched yet. Where did they expect all the money to come from in the second half of 2014 if there never was a plan to use sapphire in the phone?

It would have never made sense to use Sapphire glass on iPhone. Sapphire is most certainly more scratch resistant, but it's also way more brittle and would have made the screen so much more susceptible to shattering on impact. And let's face it, people do drop their phones. I'm a watch guy with a lot of sapphire clad watches and I've had more than my share of broken watch crystals over the years.

Here's an interesting article about iPhone 6 and Corning Glass: http://www.forbes.com/sites/greatspeculations/2014/09/12/the-likelihood-of-goril la-glass-on-iphone-6-bodes-well-for-corning/

I agree that it doesn't make sense to use sapphire for the phone, but that doesn't mean Apple didn't try. After all, didn't Huawei just release the Ascend P7 with a sapphire display? Also, how do you explain GTAT's bankruptcy? Apple loaned them $300M to build a sapphire factory, and they supposedly still have the Apple watch business. However, GTAT came up 100's of millions of dollars short in revenue for the second half of 2014. Is it just because the watch go delayed? If so, why did Apple hold back the last $134M payment GTAT was supposed to receive from them to build the sapphire factory for the watch? It just seems fishy that everyone said for months the iPhone 6 was going to have a sapphire display, then we heard it was going to be on the iPhone Plus only, and now we hear it was never intended for the phone but the company supplying sapphire for the watch is going broke. I guess we'll find out more during the bankruptcy hearing.

In any case, can someone confirm with an official link from 3M or Apple that the iPhone 6 actually uses Gorilla Glass, and not some generic ion infused glass?

Sapphire has been in use on high end watches for years. As a former astronaut trainer, I can tell you that many astronauts choose to fly with Sapphire covered Omega X33 watches. I own four Sapphire covered watches, one of which is 15 years old and it has never developed a scratch in the crystal. No one knows for sure why GTAT declared Chapter 11, but we'll know more on Thursday during the First Day Pleadings. The 10K's and 10Q's don't seem to make sense since they were reporting that they were on track to hit their revenue targets in Q4 2014. Best guesses seem to point to the assumption that GTAT didn't have the yields of quality boules to satisfy AAPL. As a result, AAPL called in their loan repayment early and a cash strapped GTAT did not have enough liquidity to make the payments. A lot of people are hurting on this one. Luckily, I only lost $5k since diversification is high on my list. Others have lost life savings approaching the million dollar mark. Some are likely on suicide watch. The level of incompetence within GTAT is approaching Enron levels. Law firms are taking up class action suits.
