iPhone 6 screen easily scratched?

Have been taking EXTREMELY good care of my 6+, but the corners already have visible scratches. Anyone else experiencing this?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8

The article pertains to the sapphire manufacturer that Apple uses for iPhones and iWatches. Sapphire is not used on the screen, only the home button and camera. Though it may be that some people on this thread have had scratches on the home button or camera lens, the majority have it on the screen.

The non-use of sapphire isn't the reason why the screen isn't as scratch resistant, otherwise, all iPhones without sapphire screens (all iPhones in general) would have this issue. It's the coating that's scratching for the majority of users which would be applied on top of the sapphire screens like it is for the Gorilla Glass ones.

No you didn't. The only components on iPhone that use Sapphire glass are the home button (also used as the fingerprint sensor) and lens on the rear of the phone. The actual screen is Corning iON Infused Gorilla Glass.

Your article talks about a factory shut down. The only way that would impact your iPhone is if your phone didn't have a sapphire home button (which would mean there would be no home button). Your scratch on the home button is a problem, but it has nothing to do with a factory that shut down that was no where in your vicinity.

I still recommend you go to the Apple Store and ask them to take a look at it. Explain to them how you have been using the phone (more or less nothing), where it goes when it's not in use (your pocket for example), what else is around the phone when it's in use (what else is in your pocket, continuing with the example), and that the phone shouldn't scratch this quickly. They may replace it for you (no guarantees, but they did replace mine).

It is relatively interesting that I have not seen articles about "iPhone 6 and 6 Plus owners complaining about scratched screens. There have certainly been a wide-variety of articles about these new phones with many article authors saying part of their research was reviewing this forum. I know anyone with a scratched screen would feel this a major issue and a flaw in the overall product quality, but I am wondering if this is not hitting the Pareto Analysis chart of items to be addressed.

It hasn't been a pushed issue, but isn't one that hasn't been stated: http://www.wired.com/2014/09/iphone-6-plus-review/

This reviewer's iPhone 6 got scratched during the time he was evaluating it for the review. That's a really short time frame, and within 6 days of getting the iPhone 6. No, the scratching issue hasn't caught wildfire and spread like the bending iPhones that hit news big, but it shouldn't be ignored either. There are at least 44 people that have had scratched iPhones (some have had more than one scratch on them during a short period of time) on this thread alone. It's not normal, and it certainly is happening (but not in huge quantities).

Heck, walking into the Apple Store, I walked around looking at iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models. It didn't take me long to find one that was scratched. I ran into a table in which half of the iPhones on the table had at least 1 scratch on them. For phones that aren't really used as they are displayed (people aren't putting them into their pockets, they aren't abusing them, etc.), they shouldn't have scratches at all.

Also note, not everyone can see these scratches. They are tiny, hairline scratches that may not be visible to everyone (especially older people with poor near-sight vision). I know there were a few friends of mine (to be fair, they're over 45) that couldn't see any scratches on my phone and her daughter saw it from 5 feet away.

Regarding how many people have this issue... Not many do, that's true. But that also doesn't mean we're scratching them ourselves (the Wired reviewer wasn't trying to scratch his phone, neither was I). Like the bending issue, it shouldn't happen, but it is happening in small (in the case of bending, minute) quantities. The cause is still unknown.

I am in a very similar boat - previous to my iPhone 6 I had an iPhone 4 that I have had since it came out on launch day - treated in exactly the same fashion and never had a single scratch anywhere on it even without a screen protector, or quite often a case.

Now with my 6 which I have only had for a couple of weeks, the screen is covered in scratches of various depths - two of which being rather substantial and enough for me to feel with a fingernail.

After a brief discussion with Apple Support this morning via their online chat they have confirmed that whilst it is not a known fault with the device, they will repair it under warranty, so later on today I will be off to my local authorised repair centre to get the handset swapped out.

It just shows that if you are calm and discuss the issue fully with them, they will do something about it.

What did you exactly say to them Kojira? I am about to contact them myself after already being told it's "Cosmetic Damages". Well fine scratches like these don't occur after one week of owning the phone.

Just so you all know, I have also sent Tim Cook an email, cc'ed a few other key people and support on it. I haven't heard anything back yet but with my 14 day return/exchange ending tomorrow I need to do something and do it quick.

I simply said that I had noted my screen was becoming far more scratched than I would expect it to after normal use - especially when I had a 4 for several years and nothing ever happened like this with that handset, and I then asked if it was a known fault.

The Apple Representative, named Brian, then replied and said he wasn't aware of it being a known fault however scratched screens can be dealt with under warranty by either going to my nearest retail store or by going to one of their approved repair partners - I chose the latter as I can get to one easier than going all the way to Bluewater retail store.

I did it via the on screen chat assistance tool so I have access to the transcript in case anyone tries to query it when I take the phone in for repair.

**** this ****. I have been babying my iPhone 6 for the past 3 weeks. Two noticeable scratches( you can feel it) and a lot of fine scratch. I only put this **** in my right pocket, which has nothing else inside. This is very disappointed. I don't think that is my fault that a ******* phone scree got scratched in this way. Apple plz recommend some facial masks that are good for the iPhone 6 screen PLZ!
