iPhone 6 screen easily scratched?

Have been taking EXTREMELY good care of my 6+, but the corners already have visible scratches. Anyone else experiencing this?

What I worry about is that if these phones are getting these scratches now, what are they going to look like in six months? Thanks for posting the data on the factory and production week. To tinyman392, was that your replacement phone? If so, they gave you one produced in August. ArtOfLife's phone was manufactured in a different factory two weeks later, so mid-September. I'm hoping that Apple is recognizing that this is a problem and is fixing it. I have been looking at iPhone 6's in various stores in SF and the North Bay Area and haven't seen any with scratches.

This most certainly was my replacement phone. When I went to get it, I looked at a number of phones at the Apple Store, I looked at two tables, each with 6-8 iPhones... About half of them had scratches (6-8 from those two tables). I didn't look at any more after that. The scratches are very fine and hard to see and require the right lighting and angle to see them. Even then, if your eyes aren't that great anymore (I hate to put a number on this, but if you're 30-35 years or older) you may not be able to see them.

If they get deep enough, then they don't require any lighting to see them, they'll show when the phone is turned on with a white background (case with my first phone, not the replacement).

I hope so too. Honestly when I first read this thread weeks back I was thinking "Yeah, these people are leaving something out, they HAVE to be, mine is fine and I treat it no different than my past iPhones, and not even my ORIGINAL iPhone has a single scratch on the screen".

But when it happens, you realize just how easily it happens. Like I said, I can't swear it wasn't something else, because I just don't know. Nothing but my finger EVER touched it until today, but I can't be 100% certain. Like I said though, I use my phone on this desk, in this light - daily. I never noticed it before, but the moment I flipped it over, they were impossible to miss. So I'm just betting that's when it happened. I can't see "not" noticing it before, especially the ones literally across the screen.

I am sure it's just the coating, as others have said. But to me, that screams something off, because I've actually been a bit rougher on my 5s for example, over it's life. We all baby them at first, but as the year went on with my 5s, it ended up screen down on the desk, on other surfaces, and it's utterly flawless, not even the slightest hint of a scratch. This thing was laid gently (and not moved around much at all) on top of a glossy magazine cover, and it picked up 7 very noticeable (under light) scratches. Paper. I keep saying that, but I just can't see it having happened any other time. I clean the screen regularly, it sits on my desk in the same place, same light, every day, and it never jumped out until today, and I wasn't even looking for them.

Be careful folks. If it hasn't happened to yours yet, hopefully it won't, but really take care of the screen as that coating seems quite excessively fragile. I love the phone, and am not wanting to replace it over this (they aren't visible at all in actual use), but if you're a nit-picker, this will blow your brain up.

I found it interesting that someone discovered scratches under the screen. Thanks for that info.

Also for what it's worth, I finally applied the screen protector half of the wrap I ordered, and it looks great. My primary concern and sole reason for waiting to apply the front, possibly losing out on the smooth "touch" of the curved glass, is not affected. I'm so pleasantly surprised.

I ordered my wrap (matte back / glossy front) from Best Skins Ever. They're affordable and fit well. When the iPhone 6's came out, they sent an email to all of their customers stating that they were going to wait until they had an actual iPhone to test on before they shipped out their wraps. It seems to have paid off. My only regret is that I didn't apply it the moment I took it out of the box like my previous devices.

What's the protector like on the screen? I tried a few protectors over the years, and was always super annoyed with how blurry/****** they made the display look, even the ones from big names like Zagg. Is the one from BSE good enough that you can't even really tell it's there?

It definitely seems like a good idea to use one, since these screens are so fragile that literally paper can scratch the coating, but the idea of even being able to notice there's something laying over that gorgeous display is equally disheartening. If it's that good, I might just look into BSE. Display quality still stunning? No rough edges that you can notice sliding your fingers around the device?

The front side of the BSE goes right to the edge of the glass and meets the body of the iPhone. There may be a sliver of glass exposed, depending on how well you can apply these things, but I'm very satisfied. I also have a lot of practice putting these on as I do it for everyone in my family.

I used to use Zagg & Power Support products but then tried BSE on a whim and never looked back. I'm not here to sell products I'm just offering my opinion. Typically what I do, because BSE is so affordable, is to change them out if become discolored or get frayed. Which is technically inevitable, but I had a full body wrap from BSE on my iPhone 5s and never had to replace it. In my experience, regardless of whether you prefer one companies' screen protector over another it's impossible to avoid at least a degree of blur. BSE "glossy" is no different than Zagg to my eyes. Get matte for the back though. It's beautifully subtle.

I've never tried the tempered glass options that I read about on this thread but that sounds interesting. Although there's nothing quite as satisfying as the security you feel when you have a full body wrap on your iPhone. For the record I also have the Apple black leather case which everyone should note makes it a very very tight if you use a rear wrap. It's easy to take the iPhone 6 plus out of the Apple case with a wrap on it, but putting it back in is difficult because you risk fraying the edges & the corners of your wrap. I literally use a small, thin piece of plastic (like gum wrapper) as a shoehorn to get the last two corners of my iPhone into the case without accidentally peeling or disturbing my wrap. That works like a charm but it's a pain.

I have been using my iPhone 6 for 5 days now and already on the 3rd day it had some hairline scratches on the top right hand corner, which were most visible under certain lighting. Really disappointed with Apple claiming the iPhone 6 screen is so strong, but it being the weakest one since the first iPhone.

I usually don't put screen protectors on my phones. I didn't put one on my 5s, which I used for about 10 months and the screen was absolutely fine. Sadly, I just put a screen protector on my 6. Can't see the little scratches on the screen anymore, but I liked the feeling of the "naked screen" much better.

I know it ***** but if you're really bothered by the scratches (and who wouldn't be), just get a quality screen protector.

I hope Apple will address this issue, but I seriously doubt it.

I am in an identical situation where I have only owned my iPhone 6+ for approx. 1 week before noticing a scratched glass. Has anyone heard from Apple a response or proposed solution. They cant just put out a more expensive product that is inferior to the previous model and expect us to just hang our heads about it.

Hi,

Even if you you manage to convince Apple Genius to replace you iP6 once, two or ten times, it will not solve the basic problem - the glass is less durable and it gets scratches. Means your brand new (or just-replaced) phone will look same after week or two.

I just cancelled my order. Maybe I'm exaggerating but if apple charges more than an average of the market, I expect more in return. Ok, at least to equalize 'market standards'. But scratches after a few days of usage of 800$-item - that's not what I want. Will stick to my SGS4

Nov 1, 2014 8:24 AM in response to Jaroslaw HartmanJarek

Very well said Jaroslaw. This is why I returned mine and refused a replacement. The only time I will move on an iPhone 6 is if Apple acknowledge there is an issue and fix it. Let's be honest that isn't going to happen with >40 million units sold it would be corporate suicide. Most likely it will be rectified quietly with the iPhone 6s or 7. That's when I will purchase.
