iPhone 6 screen easily scratched?

Have been taking EXTREMELY good care of my 6+, but the corners already have visible scratches. Anyone else experiencing this?

What did you finally manage to do to convince them to give you the color change? I'm in this *exact* same boat right now.

Launch day iPhone 6 16GB in Space Gray - scratched up in multiple places within a month after carrying my iPhone 4 for FOUR YEARS with less damage, in one of the Speck PixelskinHD cases Apple issued during antennaegate. After some heartburn (they wanted to replace the whole screen; I wanted a new phone), a supervisor with Apple Care authorized the phone replacement.

Eleven days later I was notcing the same exact scratching. I've certainly not changed my behavior for the worse since I got the new phone - treating it better than the old four year old phone if anything. I emailed the same supervisor with the old case number. He called, was apologetic, very nice and helpful, immediately said, "Let's try a third phone." I asked if the issue was more prevalent or pronounced in the Space Gray, and without admitting as much, he said the white ones would probably offer better luck. Told me to go to the store and talk to the manager to swap out my Gray for a Silver/White. I was/am still hoping for the same experience you've had - white phone fixed the issues. Unfortunately the store in Austin refused to change colors out... just reissued the Space Gray.

The new phone is again from the Foxconn factory (it says Factory: DN (China, Chengdu - Foxconn)) with production week of 42. I've emailed the same supervisor and sent this thread and your post about the swap to Silver/White and demanded the replacement be in Silver/White. Someone eventually authorized yours - who and how? I just want the phone to perform like it's supposed to. I'm sick of replacing them.

I personally would recommend against getting a new phone replacement as the screen on the phone has a higher probability of being defective if it is truly a bad batch. If it's a batch that is bad, then it's more likely that the screen replacement you get will be newer with less chance of defect. Just putting that out there. I think I may exchange my phone next week, but will probably talk to Apple through Chat.

Space Gray is what I want. I don't understand how the color of the back should impact the structural flaws on the front that make them scratch for no reason. Last night they gave me a Silver one since they were out of Space Gray. I've owned 4 Iphone 6+s actually. And the silvers never scratched, come to think of it. They were just returned by me while within return period I was waiting to get Space Gray. One of my exchanges was just to finally get the Space Gray and it and the next one scratched from nothing. Had a similar issue with a 6 (before I realized I could handle the 6+ well enough with reachability).

What did I say? In some cases, nothing. I just asked for regular exchanges within 14 days. Sometimes they were out of new inventory so I demanded an In-person look from a genius to get one from that inventory. I walk in right before closing and say I'm on my way out of town. Which is usually true. Anyway, I shouldn't have to be trying to game the system because these phones should not scratch or crack when there is no trauma or friction against 3rd party objects to them.

My Iphone 5 screen is still in flawless condition and has actually been dropped many times. I expect I'll drop and crack my 6 at some point, that's why I have AppleCare. But these scratches and cracks are from NOTHING AT ALL!

All I want at this point is a 6+ Space Gray that doesn't get spontaneous cracks or scratches to it for no reason! Then I'll be done!

I don't know the why or the how - perhaps it's a different factory?

All I know is the supervisor at Apple Care told me I should consider the white. I was fine with that, only the store told me it wasn't possible. Now I'm getting ******. You'd think they'd rather just replace the phone once and have the issue resolved than continue replacing Space Gray with Space Gray over and over again. They'll never admit it's a problem because there's enough people out there either new to Apple or that aren't meticulous about their devices that will just assume the scratches are their fault - should've been more careful.

With me, I'll keep complaining if the defect continues. I'm fine with the white phone, and after being told by the supervisor it was probably a good idea, and having the story confirmed by the other user just a page or two ago, I'd just prefer the silver/white phone and to be done as well.

Seriously considering just unlocking, selling it, and getting the **** out of this mess. I'm annoyed.

Gotcha - the previous user that I responded to said he had two Space Gray phones do the same thing, then finally argued his way into a silver/white, which had already performed much better despite a drop and some other mishaps that would've scratched up the Space Gray phones.

And the Apple Care supervisor recommended the color switch.

Here's the thing: If Apple would just admit it was an issue, state when it occured and from which factory, and the weeks of manufacture that contained the defect, then we could all obtain phones outside of that timeframe and move on. 1) they won't admit the defect (just are quite quick to replace the phone); and 2) because of 1 or because they simply don't know, no one can tell us which factory or which dates of manufacture should be good to go.

A lot of smoke around the Space Grays, which usually means fire.

Figured I'd leave a comment to document this and add my name to the growing list. I received my iPhone 6 Plus 128 GB Space Grey about two weeks ago (10/24/14). I've been babying it quite a bit, no drops, front pocket storage, and I always take it out if I feel too much stress would be applied to it from my pants (in fear of #bendgate). There are actually quite a few scratches all over the front surface already. They are very shallow, I can't feel them, but they are clearly visible when the screen is off. It is a bit concerning, my iPhone 5 was a tank in comparison. The 5 had several very bad falls and it never had scratching like this, it was either fine, or it cracked. I'm very curious if Apple plans to investigate whether or not there was a defect with a batch (since not everyone is having this problem apparently).

I have an iPhone 6 128gb space grey color.

After reading this thread I was a little bit worried concerning the iPhone screen. I had from the first day a screen protector on my iPhone but it was quite altering the iPhone 6 experience with the curved edges. But still I wanted to use my iPhone without any screen protector so I removed it.

After days of usage, no scratches at all! So maybe some of the people here are either unlucky people or are trolling for Apple concurrents. (Samsung did that a lot again HTC in Korea) Maybe some of the first produced iPhone were impacted by some faulty manufacturing, but it appears that it has been fixed now. Anyway If you plan to buy an iPhone don't worry since you have the 14 days window to bring your iPhone back and get a refund, so you will be able to see if you will get some scratches on your screen, even if I doubt that something like this could happen.

People who have complains often speak loud while those who don't have any issues stay silent, I wanted to break that silence.

Anyway just to tell that the experience is much better without any screen protector and no scratches are observed on my side.

Congrats on having no scratches. Your post, however, offers no comfort or useful information. Trolling for Apple concurrents? Yes, that's what the reviewer for Wired was probably up to when, at the tail end of an otherwise glowing review, he noted:

"That’s not the only physical defect. My screen is also scratched. There are three small but distinct scratches, and I’ve no idea how any of them got there. I haven’t carried my keys in my pocket with it. I haven’t done anything unusual with it. But there they are.

"So after four days, I have a slightly bent, slightly scratched phone. Which means that, while this is the best hardware I’ve ever used—from the processor to the camera to the display—I’m worried about durability." http://www.wired.com/2014/09/iphone-6-plus-review/http://

There are threads on other iPhone boards (e.g., Mac Rumors) about the exact same issue, including posts of pictures, like those linked in this thread. http://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/2hvvl9/anyone_else_getting_hairline_scuff s_and_scratches/http:// These include posts by people who have been there for a long time, not trolls. I hope you do not develop the scratches. As for the "don't worry, be happy, you can return it" sentiment, you may have time to do this, for others it would be a massive inconvenience and disruptive to our work. Note the point above from CalBear about replacement phones also having scratches.

I have been a loyal Apple customer since 1985. I want, and will get, one of these phones. Andorid? No thank you. But there is evidence in this thread (and others) and the Wired Review that there are problems in the manufacturing process involving the coating on the new iPhones. Some of these phones develop noticeable scratches within a few days and if that is the case and you are one of the unlucky ones, what is that phone going to look like in six months? Probably close to unusable for a very pricey device. AppleCare should be for problems caused by the owner - you drop it, lose it, it get's drenched - not what is pretty clearly a manufacturing issue affecting some batches of phones. I am not about to go through the process of changing carriers, getting the iPhone 6, and then having to jump through hoops to get a usable phone. So I will wait it out.

I disagree with you.......it's very useful for someone to see that not ALL iPhone 6 screens scratch. My experience is much like Yves. I tried a screen protector, it didn't work and I removed it the same day. So my phone has been un-screen-protected since getting it on launch day and yet, I have zero scratches. I find it amazing that people who are experiencing an issue get all hot an bothered when someone posts they aren't having a problem.

As an FYI, I notice that most people who are getting scratches, keep their phone in their pockets. I'm not saying it's wrong to do so, but maybe my screen isn't scratched because I never keep my phone in my pocket. When my phone isn't being used, it is always in a holster, which keeps the screen safe from contact with anything that could possibly scratch it.

Now you could argue that this information doesn't fix scratched screens and you'd be right. But not one member here can offer a fix for scratched screens other than to comfort each other, or tell whether Apple replaced their phones. Still, anyone should be welcome to post and not be scolded for saying they have a screen without scratches.

Can people elaborate on how they are managing to get their phones replaced? I have an iPhone 6, space gray that I pre-ordered and have been using for a few weeks now. Like a lot of people, I've used iPhones since the first generation and have never had a screen scratch so easily. I went into the Apple Store, they looked up their manual, and said that this issue had not been identified as a defect for which they can provide new phones so I'd have to pay for a screen replacement. Not sure if I should get AppleCare+ or if corporate will recognize that this is a legitimate issue. So frustrated with Apple right now...

"I find it amazing that people who are experiencing an issue get all hot an bothered when someone posts they aren't having a problem." I'm glad some people don't have problems. We already know that some phones haven't had scratches. By all means, people should say that if it is their experience. But because some phones are fine doesn't mean those who report problems are lying or trolling, or that others might receive phones with the same problem. The fact that it was Space Gray is somewhat useful, since an Apple employee has suggested to a previous poster that they try a white phone. Speculation on other threads is that the scratches might be less visible on white phones or that for some reason the coating on those phones is less prone to scratching. These kinds of scratches were not showing up in early days of earlier iPhone models. Yves post said he has had his phone for "days." I hope for his sake, there are no scratches when he's had it for weeks.
