iPhone 6 screen easily scratched?

Have been taking EXTREMELY good care of my 6+, but the corners already have visible scratches. Anyone else experiencing this?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8

Sadly my iphone 6 plus developed a scratch right by the sim tray. The worst part is I followed the instructions I was given, I had issues with my 5 when I got it so I asked after placing the order what happens if i received the phone damaged. I was told to open the box in front a carrier rep to make sure the phone was flawless. So I got my phone Tuesday went to the store and opened it in front of the rep as per instructions examined the phone in front of them which was flawless. I sealed the box back up and purchased a case for the phone. Well today I took it out of the case to give a weekly clean down and noticed a small scratch right by the sim tray. Now mind you I take very good care of all my electronic devices so yeah its safe to say I am beyond ****** at this point. Still love the phone just extremely ****** that this phone went from sealed box to case and yet still ended up with scratches. Moral of the story if you want to keep your phone like new leave it sealed in the box otherwise it doesn't matter how careful you are you are still going to end up with scratches on the phone

Add my name to the list (which by the way now appears to be longer than the number of bent iPhone 6 Pluses). Same story. I've had a 4S and a 5 and take extremely good care of my phone. There's a case on it with a lip on the front so even if placed screen-down, it shouldn't rest directly on the surface. I noticed a scratch tonight and it appears to be fairly deep. Like it was done intentionally, but that's not possible. I'm pretty disgusted, since I use my phone a LOT and now that scratch is all I can see. Going to try my luck with Apple and then Verizon if that fails. It seems like a small problem but as someone who has never experienced a screen scratch on ANY device (Android, Kindle Fire, iPad Mini) this is really disheartening.

Well i spoke to Apple over the phone they won't replace the phone as it classed as cosmetic damage, told then it came out of the box like this and said I'm very unhappy because my past iPhone screens have all been perfect even a year after purchase, but she wouldn't budge & won't exchange it for me it's obvious by the way she was sounding over the phone that i had done this scratch.

So after putting the phone down and being very annoyed with her attitude over the phone I've now sold my iPhone 6, luckily I've managed to make every single penny back on it, as the person that bought it from me was desperate to get one, and wasn't paying the silly prices the scalpers on eBay are charging & didn't mind the scratch on the screen he was just happy he got an iPhone 6.

I've been a loyal Apple user for the past few years now, and bought a new iPhone ever year since the 4 was launched back in 2010.

I'm now going to start a new chapter on Android, and won't be investing in anymore in Apple as each new iPhone and iOS launch they seem to getting worst every year, iOS 8 is a terrible mess, and the number of hardware defects cropping up on both the 6 & 6 Plus is also shocking, I'm sure Apple is cutting corners to maximize profits.

You say that, but look at this thread. Look at all the other threads on the Internet documenting - with pictures - the exact same patterns of scratches on brand new $750+ devices.

For those of us that have invested $15k in Apple hardware over the years, to be treated like idiots is insulting. This is where brand-loyalty begins to die.

Apple needs to address this issue and make good on their manufacturing/QA problem. You're shove-off reinforces the treatment we've been receiving from Apple reps, ehich is unfortunate at best.

The issue is that there's something inherently wrong with the new oleophobic coating process. A replacment will just give you a shot at another pristine screen. If you're not one to use a screen protector, then you'll be back in this boat. If you're going to start or continue using screen protectors, you'll need to put it on immediately after getting the replacement. My scratches aren't visible when the screen is on. A screen protector detracts more from the user experience than these scratches do. I went back and cleaned the screen on my 5 and noticed that there also a couple of these hairline scratches on that phone as well. I was thinking that it was perfect throughout its whole life. Since I was never looking for them, I never noticed them. I'm not gonna bother trying to get a fourth replacement until Apple acknowledges this defect. For now, I have to decide if I go screen protector or hope the scratches don't get worse if i leave the screen naked. From the overwhelming negative reviews on screen protector fit for the 6, I'm leaning towards living with it as is.

Good morning silverbullet,

Does your new case have a screen protector built into like the otter box defender? If not do you have a screen protector on it along with the case you have it in. I know it ***** that we have to put in a case with a screen protector. Hope that apple will resolve this issue as long as the bending issue with the iphone 6 plus that many are reporting it happening. Apple needs to resolved this issues to keep there customers happy and may be good idea that they provide a screen protector to prevent this happening or a screen that doesn't scratch so easily. I just believe in protecting any iphone's I have owned.

This thread is certainly concerning, but more than that it makes one curious as to the actual situation with the iPhone 6 / 6 Plus Gorilla Glass III. Are these scratched screens due to some batches of iPhones having a higher propensity than others to scratch? When you read that some posters have returned and received new iPhones that also scratched it makes you think not. Are the scratched iPhones typically owned by folks that live near sandy soil areas? Do most of the folks posting in this thread typically carry the phone in pocket or purse with other items in it? Are rings and/or other jewelry involved? My iPhone 6 is in an Otterbox Defender Case with a built in Screen Cover, and I suppose I won't as such even noticed scratches should they occur. I fully understand and agree with those that don't think scratches should easily occur within literally days of the iPhones in-use. Hopefully we will see some actual third-party test results that shed some light on how wide-spread this concern is, and better yet, some mitigation ideas.

For the best screen protector I suggest following my earlier post if you want a scratch free phone leave it sealed in the box. Having tested every case and every screen protector during my career as an iPhone user I can honestly say if you use the phone with a case or without one you are going to end up with scratches on the phone. That is also the same case with screen protectors you name it I've used it and ended up with the same results a scratched phone

My apologies, my comment wasn't nice and I'm sorry. With every new phone, there's always a thread about people's phone scratching. I don't if some people are just naturally rougher, if they put them in a purse and they come in contact with keys, they have sand in their pockets or what. But I've had my phone now over two weeks and just like every other iPhone I've owned, I simply don't have any scratches on the screen. Am I extra careful with my phones? Yes. But you and others are saying they're being extra careful and yet you have scratches. It's a mystery to me. So, when I see some posts from people who have pretty much no activity on the forum, other than a complaint, I'm a little skeptical.

Again, my comment was rude and I apologize. I have a very sick cat, and I kind of took my frustration out on you.

I do hope you have better luck with whatever other phone you end up getting. I see posts all over the place about Android phones and scratches too. A lot of people say the Samsung Galaxy S series phones are scratching.

It is not that much of a mystery I have had the same issues ever since I landed the iphone4 no matter which case and screen protector I went with the phone still ends up with scratches being a former auto body repair tech I have a very sensitive eye for spotting inperfections what seems fine and un-noticed to an un-trained eye does not get missed by a trained one. My wife hates me for that because she has a iPhone 5c and it has scratches as well. Now mind you my phone has never been in my pocket even after I put the case on it I do not wear jewelry nor keep my keys anywhere near my phone that is how I know it's indeed the cases that scratch the phone
