iPhone 6 screen easily scratched?

Take your pick I've had and iPhone since they first came out and every single one of them scratched within minutes my second 6 was the longest to go without one making it almost a full hour but then it ended with the same fate

That's honestly odd. None of my iPhones have ever suffered a scratch and that includes my current iPhone 6. But then, none of my phones have ever been put in my pocket as they are in a case, which is then placed in a leather holster.

I've owned iPhones since the 3 and I've never once brought a protective case for them until now 😟.

Yes over time they all developed small marks on the exterior of the phone but never on the screens until the 6! I owned this unit for 3 days and its already developed a scratch on the screen significant enough to make it noticeable to the naked eye.

I like many of you take great care in ensuring I don't put other things in the same pocket of my phone so the question is how has it happened??!!

I would not agree, I have had every iPhone since the 3GS and no one of them ever had a scratch on the screen. My 5s (I'm skipping the 6 to many perceived issues) is over a year old and has not one scratch on the screen. my gf's 6 is scratched after a week or so and its in a case and gets put in a soft pouch. I suggest your usage is not really normal wear and tear, and a phone should not get scratched within minutes of unboxing unless you drop it or stick it in a pocket full of sand and keys...

You would think but as I said my phone has never gone in my pocket nor was it ever dropped I am just being honest as to how I use the phone but ever since my 3 they have all suffered the same fate whether it was was within minutes or within the hour as an added curse I have 19/20 eyesight which makes it even possible to see a scratch no bigger than the size of a pin tip from a distance

I have OCD as do many Apple users it seems and looking at my 5s screen with a torch (I got odd looks doing this) not one mark and as I said its over a year old. my gfs iPhone 6 has many small ones on the corners and one down the middle. Since speculation is not allowed as such on the forums all I can say is the screens in my view should not be getting so easily damaged. As to why they are compared with previous iPhones I have no idea.

Unfortunately the engineering team doesn't agree on your point of view (and neither on mine). Just got an e-mail back from another senior advisor telling me this is 'cosmetic damage' and it's out of warranty. I would say we are cosmetically S-word-ed. I can't believe how Apple avoids European consumer rights. It's absolutely disgusting.

I am very disappointed. My new iPhone 6 plus collapsed less than a month. (I bought 29/10/2014). Display with protective film crumbled into a small pieces. I do not know what to do because in Russia is not developed service Apple. When I visit to the official dealer they offered me to buy a new phone.

Add me to the list. I have the iphone 6 plus for 2 weeks and finally saw a hair line scratch on my phone. I never had it face down, drop, or put it in a pocket that has other things in it. I never have problem with iphone 3gs, 4, or 5. This is unacceptable apple.

I bought my new iphone 6 (16gb silver) just a couple of days ago and it already has some scratches on it. I handled it with extreme care, only carrying it in my hands or in the soft pocket of my winter jacket. This is my 3rd iPhone and my 4s and 5s never had any scratches, not even when throwing them into my purse next to my keys. I also have an iPad mini retina which is also flawless. I am really disappointed.

After looking at my iPhone 6 i noticed a few hairline scratches on the screen and one thats about a centimetre long down the middle. I cant feel the scratch but its visible at certain angles with light. I take real good care on my Apple products and i was surprised to find these scratches on my screen.

I felt compelled to login and comment given some of the facetious comments from some people along the lines of "take more care of your phone", "buy a screen protector" and so on.

Having owned an iPhone 4s for nearly 3 years and never used a case or screen protector, I had only one small visible scratch on the screen. There were many articles in the press at the beginning explaining that Apple spent so much money on creating a scratch resistant glass and yet people covered the phone in cheap and ugly looking screen protectors that were mostly unnecessary.

Having just (~2 months ago) upgraded to the iphone6, I already have about 8 scratches visible on the screen. They are not so visible when the screen is in use, but are very noticeable when off.

The point here is around whether the glass on the new iPhone 6 behaves differently to previous iPhone glass, as if it does, people need to be made aware so they can proactively do something about it (i.e. use a screen protector or get a case, where they haven't needed to previously). I for one (had I been made aware the glass on the iPhone6 is more prone to scratches) would have likely considered a case.

Alternatively, if the new glass should not be more prone to scratches, then there maybe a faulty batch that needs to be addressed differently. Without people sharing their rational and reasoned experiences with others, everyone would be none-the-wiser.

Take this thread as a note of advanced warning that if you were used to your previous iPhone being extremely resilient to scratches, there are a large number of people out there who are finding the screen on the iPhone 6 less so.

The screen protectors I use now are made out of a similar glass. They do not look cheap or ugly. Due to the rounded screen they could not make them extend to the very edge as the one on my iPhone 5 did, but the protector still looks good on the phone. There are some pretty cheap and ugly protectors out there, but I've had plastic protectors that were nearly undetectable until they developed scratches. I can't really say if the new glass is any less resilient since I put a protector on immediately, but I do know that putting on a protector after there are already scratches will completely hide them if they are as small as people are saying they are.

I can't imagine they would switch to a less durable glass unless it had something to do with the curved screen.

Yes. I have the exact same problem: barely 1 week after I got my iPhone 6, I noticed a long thin almost barely noticeable scratch on the middle of the screen. Now after a month, a bigger and definitely obvious scratch runs horizontally from edge to edge.

I treat my phone with extra care: I never pocket it along with coins or keys, or place it on harsh surfaces upside down.

As many here, I've also used iPhone for several years now and my previous 4 and 5 didn't get scratched at all with the same amount of care (I've never needed a screen protector before).

Should I make an appointment with an Apple genius? Have anyone had their phones replaced for this?
