iPhone 6 screen easily scratched?

Received my iPhone 6 yesterday.

Was playing with it for a few hours overnight. Handling it with extreme care, as some precious jewelry. It is amazingly beautiful.

To my surprise this morning while cleaning the screen with a mircrofiber, notice 2 hairline scratches. Those scratches are only visible under direct light.

I could swear that in no way, I could have scratched the screen in just a few hours, without almost not manipulating the phone. I am actually thinking it came like this from factory, as the scratches are not easily seen ( only visible under particular light conditions).

I waited for quite sometime for my i6 space gray, so feeling doubly frustrated now.

I have an iphone 5S and had a 4S which I happily used for years, with none to minor screen scratches. And I have never seen this hairline oleo-phobic scratches on those screens.

I am fairly disappointed. I am evaluating if I should return it. However as per this thread, seems multiple phones are affected and Apple is not providing an official answer.

To all of you being treated bad by an Apple Store rep: ask for the manager and show him your problem. That's how it worked for me. Yes, it might take you an hour to convince, but it might solve your problem.

Mine scratched early on too. I am living with it, but will ask for a new one if another scratch develops. I've had several iPhones since the beginning and never had this issue.

I just checked my iPhone 6 screen, I can't believe there are a few scratches which can been seen easily on the screen.

And I use my nail try to scratch the screen, I left a scratch on the screen successfully.

I think it's a big issue on iPhone6, and the screen should not be scratched easily, even nails.

So in theory, once the oiliophobic coating wears off... the scratches do too correct?

In theory if one would remove the oleophobic coating those hairlines scratches would go away, but then you would have a lot more smudges, fingerprints.

For what I read in the forum in practice the tendency should be to get worse, meaning you will see more and more hairlines as the time goes.

Again in my case, I have two minor scratches, that are only visible under certain light conditions, reason why I suspect the scratches are purely on the coating. Still, if that is the case, it is a poor quality coating, cause in my 5S and 4S I never had the issue.

It could be, as some people say that Apple on the S iterations always makes better phones, fixing mostly all reported problems of former iteration.

I will be using my i6 for the next couple of days and will see how this develops. So far no more scratches, for now they are not too much of an eye sore. Being that everything else appears to be ok, I see no reason to rush and try to swap the phone. Even though when you pay 700+ for a phone you have the right to be "picky".

I hope at some point we can have some official answer from Apple, and that they don't disappoint us.

It is obviously impossible to scratch ANY type of glass with a fingernail, so whatever you scratched was not the glass screen. I sometimes wonder if everybody is removing any plastic film which is put over the shiny surfaces as part of the packaging.

Don't insult our intelligence. Nobody is leaving that shipping film on by mistake and thinking it's the glass surface. Reality is the oleophobic coating is flawed in some way.

Seems like many folks are finding that cleaning with a microfiber cloth is adding to the scratches. I saw that as well. Meanwhile, I found using a lightly damp lens cleaning sheet (and letting it air dry) cleans well without adding as many scratches.

It's a legitimate comment. Its not unheard of. You'd be surprised how many times it happens.

Fine. But I suspect odds are someone that stupid would not likely be on this board writing about it... I tried to leave that plastic on for a couple days until my wallet cover came in and it began to peel up pretty quick. I had to actively cut the pull tab off with scissors and remove the back half just to keep it on...

I Couldn't agree more. For those on this discussion board who have not had any troubles (scratches) on their new iPhone 6, GREAT! I along with everyone else here are happy that you were fortunate enough to not have the problem we have experienced. None of us have posted to cause debate or be bashed and made to feel as though we are mindless. We have simply written to reach out to see if others have experienced what we are dealing with and simply gain advice on how to correct it. The last thing any of us are trying to do is to argue with those who do not share our problem... We have APPLE to do that with! So rather than posting about a problem you don't have, just move along. There is no reason for you to post on this thread other than to cause conflict.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize this is your forum? If it's not, you don't get to decide who can post or not. As long as no one is violating the Terms of Use, anyone can post.

The ironic thing is that you're breaking the rules just as much as they are when you badger them about the rules (it's well off topic and interferes and disrupts with the site as a whole as it causes replies to the post and a whole argument that spews up quickly)... This is probably the 10th time you'd done it which is why I'm actually pointing this out. I'd report your post if I could, along with many others, but I can't. You can though (from what I understand), so please report them and move on. It's not your job to badger people about the rules, especially if they are hostile in response (it's the moderator's/admin's job mainly).

It'll keep the forums so much cleaner that way and create a lot less work for moderators to do (as they technically have to remove your posts as well... This post as well and every other post that stems, is linked, from the post). A post like that in an environment that is already hostile against you doesn't help things and only causes more garbage to spew up in the thread... There is no need for that.
