iPhone 6 screen easily scratched?

Have been taking EXTREMELY good care of my 6+, but the corners already have visible scratches. Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news..... But... The only reason your dear wife's iPhone isn't "faulty" is because she's not carrying it in her jeans 🙂, after having this problem with multiple devices, I came to the obvious conclusion ( and went as far as experimenting (on my Old LG Optimus 2X)) that even a pair of tight BootCut jeans can, and will produce those so called scratches on the screen glass, while bending your knees searching for your contact lenses 🙂 .My first bad experience was the next day after purchasing the much smaller. (3,5 inch) iPhone 3G...a looong time ago. Good thing I had that thing insured 🙂, and all my valuable devices are ensured ( a small price to pay (6$/month/iPhone )) My carrier even has the insurance included in my wife's 44$/ month contract ....

Now I'm struggling to find a way and carry my iPhone 6 Plus when the warm weather comes, and I won't be needing my jacket 😉 , I'll probably be using everyday my side pocket loose hunting pants .... And try not to hit the side pockets 🙂

Sorry to be the bearer of information that has obviously eluded you -

I've had smart phones since they were first released, and always carry them in my jeans pocket. I've never had a screen protector and not a single one of my previous phones have had scratches from my jeans pocket. My wife's iPhone 6 does not get scratches from the same exposure. We swapped phones for a full day of normal use - not a single scratch. And yet, more scratches had appeared on my phone (I assume you're going to say it was because it was in her purse, which means you are genuinely saying that people with an iPhones 6's (and only a subset of them with an obvious manufacturing fault) are not allowed to carry their phone in the pocket or in their purse, leaving.. what, telepathy as your only remaining suggestion?). However ALL other phones are fine with that, even without screen protectors.. every Android I've ever had didn't scratch from my pocket, ditto every previous iPhone, so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

I believe you think that my phone is the same as other people's iphone 6. It's not, there is something obviously different. My one scratches FAR more easily than two others I've experimented with.

Hi Tangentric,

Could you check at chipmunk.nl where and when your wife's and your iPhones were manufactured? The online service will give you details of the manufacturing week and factory based on your phones' serial numbers.

It would be interesting to see if the manufacturing details shed any further light on bad screen batches. My iPhone 6 Space Gray (manufactured week 35 last year) and iPhone 6 Plus Space Gray (manufactured week 49), both from different factories, suffer from the same scratching issue as your iPhone. Similarly to your experience, two of my previous iPhones (4 and 5) had zero scratches on their screen after two years of careful use.

Dear Tangentric, if I've offended you somehow, I can assure you that was Not my intention ( mind the multitude of smileys integrated in the text 😉 ) , i was just trying to help. Most of us have had many smartphones, but not all are the same, I'm sure other smartphones you've carried in your pocket might have had smaller screen sizes, than the 6, their screen glass may have not been rounded at the edges ( creating more tension) and the materials used when producing that glass were diferent for sure, also keep in mind that this is the cold seazon, and your phone is exposed to sudden temperature changes, especialy when its very cold, and then it gets into your pocket where it is quite warm....

this suden temperature variation, mixed with the quality of the glass, the fact that it's got rounded edges, and the tension sometimes builds up when you bend your knees, or when you lean on a desk.., is enough to create those cracks..... Especially if yours and your wife's are both from the same batch (as MichLow suggest you find out)... This might explain why although IF both the phones are from the same batch they perform differently in terms of screen Cracking 😉

HOpe I didn't make you sad, and please let us know about your further actions regarding your faulty screen.

The language of the forums is not restricted. Anybody can post in their own language. They then have to wait for a sensible reply from somebody who shares their native language, or hope that software such as Google Translate can cope. Most have a go at the most common available language, English, in the usually correct hope that a maximum audience will be available to provide an answer.

As a well-known pedant, I could easily spend 24 hours a day picking holes in the posts just from native English speakers. In this worldwide community, being able to understand questions and answers is all that is required, regardless of grammar and spelling.

I'm adding my name to this list. I've owned every iPhone since the original and never had anything scratch like my iPhone 6+! I'm really disappointed and this is the first time that I didn't purchase AppleCare since I've never needed it in the past. I don't know how the geniuses are going to respond when I show them the scratches and whether the be so willing to replace the screen.

Wow Pete, that was really considerate of you! I can't believe that you took the time to make such an idiot out of yourself/

You are welcome. But comments like yours deserve little more attention. Have you read this thread? Have you actually given feedback to Apple? Have you even gone to the Apple Store? Obviously not or you would KNOW how they reacted.

Making this out to be some sort of partition is not only against the Terms Of Use that you agreed to when joining these forums, but also a cop out.

Have a pleasant day.🙂

You're right, petermac, it's not a list.. It's just 86 pages of sequential people with the same issue, who get no help from Apple or their mobile provider. I've been told the issue doesn't exist, but someone's making money fixing 86 pages worth of this non-issue.

I'd again like add my voice to this - against my advice a mate bought an iphone 6 and by the time he got home he had 2 full-length scratches. Of the people I know with iphone 6s, that's 2 of 5 iphones 6s that it's happened to. I'm aware that I'm not allowed to make conjecture here about possible faults or defects, but people who are very careful with their brand new phones are getting some awfully bad feelings about Apple products as a result, myself included. Alas, I'm stuck with the non-issue because it's my fault my phone was scratched by my empty cotton pocket.

if there's one change I'd like the Telcos to make when selling the iphone 6 (and only the 6, it doesn't happen on any other iPhones ive seen) is that they should insist on people buying a screen protector at time of purchase - after you sign/walk out the store there's absolutely no help from anyone because scratches aren't covered. But they do cost a LOT to fix .. If you don't have insurance of some kind.

I've spoken to geniuses, they won't reduce the cost of screen repair regardless of how politely I asked. And Telcos have no say over Apple product replacements or fixes. This saddens me and now I am stuck saving up for a screen replacement.
