Airplay Apple TV not working/mirroring after IOS 8

After upgrading to IOS 8 on my IPad 2, updating my Apple TV, resetting my router, the mirroring does not work.

I had no problem till the new release was installed.

Does anyone have a solution?

Previously when wanting to watch a video from my iPad or iPhone through Apple TV, there was an icon for AirPlay in the video app. Now there is an icon for AirPlay only in the Control Center.

I have watched video since upgrading, but have not tried mirroring.

I was able to fix the airplay issue with my iPhone 6 and iOS 8.1.

The problem was that my Time Capsule is generating my WIFI network "twice", as "Network" and as "Network_5GHz".

The iPhone was connected to "Network_5GHz", but the Apple TV to "Network". Since Airplay requires both devices to be in the same WIFI network, I connected the Apple TV to "Network_5GHz" as well, and Airplay was working again !

The funny thing is that my Mac does not treat "Network_5GHz" and "Network" as different networks, and iOS didn't do that until iOS 8.

So it seems to be a new "feature" of iOS 8 to treat them as different networks ...

I had the same exact problem, I won't go into long explanation of what it was my worst experience since years with Apple products, but instead go directly to the actions I tooks that have solved it! Some of them might be useless, but as I am not running an IT Lab, nor willing to pass my evening on it...

  • set up the conference room on (no visible effect)
  • restarting the AppleTV by unplugging it and replug it (no visible effect)
  • going on my mac, using "Airport Utility", discovering there is an update for my TimeCapsule (might be the same for your Airport, they are twins separated at birth)
  • updating my TimeCapsule (or your Airport), and the AirPlay went back just thereafter (on my Mac and on my restarted iPhone too)

So, maybe there is some side-effects on this, but still happy to be able to play Bobby Bazini tonight 😉

This is precisely why removing persistent scroll bars from Apple's interface contributes to a counterintuitive experience for users. if they were present, you would always know if some element of a window's expanse is available. Our screens are big enough now even for iOS devices, please give them back.

I too have a problem with mirroring the latest Apple TV with the latest update... but with a slight twist. In our school, the iPad Air running iOS 8.1 will mirror just fine (select Air Play and scroll up to select the Apple TV and then mirror the device).

However, with an iPad 3 running iOS 8.1, the mirroring doesn't work. Sometimes it will recognize the Apple TV and the Air Play option will appear. At other times, the Air Play options never comes up. Of course, we've already checked to make sure the devices are on the same network. And, the network works with newer iPads--even with bluetooth turned off, which forces a wireless connection to the Apple TV. When we can get the mirroring to work, it will work for a small amount of time and then the iPad will loose the mirroring option. When re-selecting mirroring from the Air Play menu the mirroring button will turn green and then the check mark will go back to the iPad and off the Apple TV.

If anyone is having the same issue, or better yet has resolved the issue, please let me know.

I have followed all the instructions mentioned on the four pages of reply´s. Nothing has worked for my iPad 2. Only black screen appears on the TV. Apple TV 3 with latest software reacts though, because when I close the mirror button, I receive the normal Apple TV menu on my TV screen. The iPad 2 with iOS 8 is seen, Apple TV reacts to the mirror button, but unfortunately doesn´t show the mirror image. HELP!

THis is what I finally got to work. I turn off and completely disconnected my Apple TV 2, all wires pulled out, turn off my iPad 2 and iPhine 5 and then reconnected the Apple TV , put it in confereneve mode and then turned on the iPad and iPhone.

I could then use AirPlay with my iPhone but not my ipad. Even on he iPhone, I could not get my home screen onto the tv, could only play cached You Tube video. I could not stream You tube. I use MacTube Pro.

i found that the airplay would not work at all with the apple TV on Ethernet.

I can stream anything from my imac using AirPlay but have trouble with the Apple TV connecting through my home network.

The annoying thing is that why are we fluffing about here trying all different things when Apple shoild be fixing it!

yes, it is working for the iPhone 5s but not my ipad 2!

i Would think it it is time for some official response from Apple. In Austraila, under consumer laws, they can't deliberately stop a device doing what it is suppose to to . Warranty extends for th life of a product here. It should function in the way intended for th period you would reasonably expect the life to be .

APple gave no warning that the OS would stop the device functioning as it was initially advertised to do. The ipad 2 and the Apple TV are designed and advertised to work together. Now they don't! And Apple is offering no Solution!

i Will contact consumer protection sevices here to see what can be done. I think Apple has had long enough to respond and fix it.
