Airplay Apple TV not working/mirroring after IOS 8

After upgrading to IOS 8 on my IPad 2, updating my Apple TV, resetting my router, the mirroring does not work.

I had no problem till the new release was installed.

Does anyone have a solution?

Previously when wanting to watch a video from my iPad or iPhone through Apple TV, there was an icon for AirPlay in the video app. Now there is an icon for AirPlay only in the Control Center.

I have watched video since upgrading, but have not tried mirroring.

I Finally got mine working after a long phone support season with Apple support. The trick is Tom urn everything off, pull out all the cables, wait for a lengthy period of time and then plig all in again and reinstall the Apple TV software .. Easy to to do select the option in the settings.

AHh joy! Back to watching You tube and other online media, my music and photos!

now just got to fix the Air Drop!

Oh i give up with this.

Latest update iOS 8.1.1 on all devices, ATV updated, iPad, iPhone. Reset everything a thousand times, cables out etc etc.

Airplay Mirroring STILL DOES NOT WORK.

Yes, it's a bit better- no doubt about that. But still, it only manages about 40mins of play, and then it's exaclty the same; sound keeps coming, picture frozen and the only way to cure it is to restart my Ipad. Restarting the ATV does not get things working.

MESSAGE TO APPLE:

1. Please test your software before releasing it. Why are you making your customers do your testing for you?

2. Whatever the implemented solution in 8.1.1 was for this bug, it has not worked. Your software developers have certainly identified the problem, but it seems like the solution that's been rolled out went something like this: "hmmm, x = 2 didn't work, lets try x = 4 in ios8.1.1, see if that helps..... give it a try". This is not acceptable.

3. Apple TV Airplay mirroring worked so beautifully until ios8 came along and now, through some change that no-one wanted, or seems to benefit from, it's a disaster. Why hasn't the old, perfectly working software just simply been reinstated and the new peer-2-peer bluetooth idea been pulled for proper testing, bugs ironed out and then released once it's ready for customer?

4. Has anything good come out of ios8? Anyone?

I agree, ios8 is a travesty over 7 which worked fine with all of my devices and AppleTV.

Now:

  • 4S is a bucket of snot, less so with the recent 4S update (which apparently ONLY affect 40,000 users. I guess we're made to feel lucky we got anything at all with that statement floating around) but still a bucket no less.
  • Ipad Air has AirPlay issues. Period.
  • MacBook Pro, the occassional Airplay issue. (Not to mention I downgraded from Yosemite because of the infectious wifi bs to which has workable workarounds under Mavericks)

I'm sorry Apple. I will be jailbreaking my devices from now on and never spending a cent on your walled ecosystem.

I have been a happy MS Naysayer for a while now, and since you-know-who's demise one thing has become abundantly clear - Apple now sarcks. All the cool kids migrated towards it, and now it just behaves worse than a cheap and love abused M$ toy wrapped in its own power cord kicked to the gutter.

This worked for me! Yay! Thanks.

Still, within, for instance YouTube, AirPlay still doesn't work. It does, however, work as described by ac1973, which was, "bring up the control bar from the bottom of your iPad, click Apple TV, you can then scroll within that little box to enable mirroring again..... Sorted!"

AirPlay still doesn't work within apps, such as YouTube. At least you can use the control bar at that bottom of your iPads!

Hi.

I've been meddling around with this problem.

I have a mac air with Yosemite, and an iPad Air and iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1.1

The Apple TV is in the newest firmware so far.

Here's what i found out:

1) i did reset the apple tv from scratch. It's a hard task to reconfigure everything but after the restart, using it's remote solely for browsing, the Airplay returns to operate normaly.

2) However, most of the time you'll have your iPhone, iPad or something like that operating as a remote, because it's TOO **** STRESSFULL to type all login/password accounts into apple tv using the tiny little remote. So, what do you do? You sync the iOS device as a REMOTE.

3) Now Here's the trick part. After this process, the airplay STOPS WORKING. It's like they are fighting the same protocol.

So, if you want the Airplay to work again, remove the remote function of your i-device and use solely the apple remote (the small metalic one) to browse the channels...

My best guess is that Apple Screwd up with this update, and they are lost in the process. And i think it's time for Tim Cook and his friends to give a greater user experience update on Apple TV because the Netflix app in that is HORRIBLE.

🙂😁😁🙂 Thank you thank you AC1973! You had the magic answer! I was so used to mirroring popping up above the Apple TV selection it didn't even occur to me that it was hidden off the screen BELOW!

Im so happy that it was such a simple solution and really appreciate your pointing out scroll. I never had to do that in IOS 7 and earlier..

Just to throw another cause for airplay not showing on IOS device. Check your router settings. Somewhere I had read to have reserved IP addresses for the different users of the router. Tonight I could not get airplay to show on the Ipad(it had worked a week ago). Looked at the IP addresses of all devices connected to the router, and found that even though I had reserved them, the devices were not using the reserved IPs. Turned off the reserve IP addy crap and restarted router, airplay icon is back on the Ipad and Amazon instant video streaming is working again to APTV.

I was trying to vet our device configuration today, using Air Browser's "free checker" from the App Store. Imagine my surprise when the Mirroring button depicted in Air Browser's demo showed up on my iP6, but not on my iPad Air. Then, once again, Apple Support Communities to the rescue.

From 'an oxonian''s post earlier in this thread:

"However in fact, there is a little "on/off" slider switch BELOW the "Apple TV" but it requires you to scroll up to see it.

I had NO CLUE that it is there, hidden just off the bottom of the screen, which is a huge fail for Apples UI guys. When Apple decided to remove scroll bars so that they only appear when yo've just scrolled, they also remove the visual cue that there IS anything to scroll."

I.e. when using an iPhone, the Mirroring button automatically appears when Air Play is chosen. On the iPad....not so much. It's necessary to select Air Play > your TV of choice > THEN SCROLL THAT TV UP in order to see the Mirroring button. As 'an oxonian' said, not too swift, Apple engineers.

A big Christmas (that's right, that's my "holiday') thanks to 'an oxonian' and Apple Support Communities.

Exactly the same issues and attempted remedies (literally many dozens of failed tries), along with the same conclusions. My main joy with iPad and

ATV mirroring was streaming UK television (via VPN) to the big screen. My solution will now be to sell my Apple shares, and use the gain to get a simple Nexus tab and a $35 Chromecast stick ((son's works flawlessly). The level of frustration with this Applecrap has, sadly, pushed me to the wall.

iOS 8 is a complete piece of junk. It is beyond buggy. This is yet another example of Apple breaking working functionality.

The ONLY reason I started buying Apple products was that it is "just supposed to work". Its the only reason to buy all Apple. The more products they create, the less they "just work" together.

Its pathetic that Apple can't even get their own equipment to work together in a closed, proprietary environment.

ive yet to get my iPhone's to work with my Apple TV since the iOS 8 updates.

Jan 2, 2015 6:37 AM in response to Broken Mirror(ing)

This has gotten beyond a joke. I posted a seperate topic (about this topic) back in October, but have had a couple of trouble free months with mirroring Apple TV.

Sadly, all my problems have returned in the last few days - mirroring drops out every ten minutes or so (and what a crappy way that is to watch Guardians of the Galaxy).

I'm at my wit's end with this issue and, sadly, like others here, I'm ready to try out alternative forms of hardware.

This has been going on for months - Apple has really let Apple TV users down with this issue. I hope someone at the company is taking note of threads like this one.
