Airplay Apple TV not working/mirroring after IOS 8

After upgrading to IOS 8 on my IPad 2, updating my Apple TV, resetting my router, the mirroring does not work.

I had no problem till the new release was installed.

Does anyone have a solution?

Previously when wanting to watch a video from my iPad or iPhone through Apple TV, there was an icon for AirPlay in the video app. Now there is an icon for AirPlay only in the Control Center.

I have watched video since upgrading, but have not tried mirroring.

The issue might be is that you need to drag the toggle into the viewable area under the Apple TV selector. See my image. It's not very intuitive and I discovered it by accident. Hopefully Apple will make the pop up a bit taller to see it. Until then click and drag to have it in view. Also make sure to have apple TV set to conference mode active.

TThe answer is soooo simple but it was hard to find in all these posts and responses. The reason I could not enable mirroring after upgrading to iOS 8 is because Aapple has hidden the Mirroring Enable switch. It is right below where you check Apple TV in the slide up Control Center panel.

i Spent a couple Hours fooling aroud with Apple TV, even reset to factory defaults as one post suggested. Finally gave up that night and came back to this forum this evening. The post said go to Control Panel. Well I went to the one under Settings but there is no Mirroring switch their. I just happened to fool around with the hide away Control Panel, pulled Apple TV menu toward the top of the the screen and there was the Mirroring switch.

i Think the Mirroring switch needs to be visible at the same time you see the Apple TV menu choice.

Two more items to add to this:

1) I have now also noticed that "AirDrop" does not work consistently. I went on a birthday weekend with my wife and tried to send photos between her phone and my phone, then my phone and her girlfriends phone, then her phone and her girlfriends.... all different permutations and they all failed. Tried using different wifi networks, etc..... So to me, it just looks like the inter-connectivity features of iOS 8 are a huge FAIL. Mirroring is still not working for me, even after updating, rebooting, etc

2) Don't know if you caught it last week, but one of Apple's lead developers posted a blog post about how he thought Apple was sliding downhill fast and basically creating crap code..... He even said what I said in an earlier post that "Apple's whole premise is that it just works.... and this is no longer the case". He said he thought it was due to the release cycles being too fast trying to keep up with product releases.

No idiots involved. But we are all so use to Apple nailing usability that when they drop the ball it takes us twice as long to figure it out !

i Have had this quote so long that it is now barely readable....

Poor usability isn't just annoying. It kills end-user productivity. Wastes time. And all but dooms major IT initiatives to failure.

IIn my case, ipad air, it works until I attempt to view a video. The screen goes gray and shows something like now showing this video on Apple TV, BUT I never get the video on the ATV (just the spinning gear in black and white) and AirPlay becomes de-selected on the iPad. The exact same thing happens to my daughters iphone 6. On my 4S (IOS 7-whatever) it shows the video, but freezes sometimes. IMHO, Apple should just dump ios8 and start over - with new people in charge. And FIX THIS WEB SITE so it works properly with their products.

WWrong assumption. The ATV is up to date. The single variable is ios8 vs ios7. My 4s is one patch release shy of the highest ios7 and AirPlay sort of works. The iPad Air and iPhone 6 are up to date and are fail-o-matic. And, yes, I did all the Microsoft help script stuff (reboot, unplug, yadda yadda). And, FWIW, I found the AirPlay switch by myself. I'm a 40 year IT guy, so I do know how to work a problem. Apparently unlike Apple.

And my wife's hand me down ipad2 has no problems at all because it can't be upgraded to the later IOS.

I agree, ios 8 is the problem. All was well with mirroring up to that point. In my case I can get mirroring working, for anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour

(unpredictable each time) until the video freezes while audio continues. Rebooting the iPad gets it going again for another round of unknown duration. Restarting ATV makes no difference, so it has to be 8. Also, since the "upgrade" (<---joke there) to 8, I'm always getting "low memory" warnings. And, why is it so difficult to use this "Reply" window?? Always freezing, can't insert anything....annoying! APPLE - at least let us revert to ios 7 until you can clean up the mess!
