iOS 8.0.1 no service and no touch id
Looks like iOS 8.0.1 broke my ability to make a phone call and touch ID on my iPhone 6+. Hope there is an iOS 8.0.2 in the next few hours.

I logged in just to respond. I was able to "upgrade" back to 8.0.0 use the instructions above from Singlecutguy and a few others. and make sure you hit opt+UPGRADE and not restore. took maybe 10 minutes and I'm back. no loss of data, no restoring!
This is a nightmare. All the ISPW files I can find are taking 1 day+ to download, as is the software update if I choose to update via iTunes.

:-) Sorry; I didn't notice that you had already posted a solution. I wasn't trying to steal your thunder :-)

Follow the instructions in this link:
(on Windows, I had to SHIFT-CLICK rather than CONTROL-CLICK "Check for Updates" to bring up a browser to select the ipsw file)
Same for me... getting really annoyed. Have work to do with my phone.
Same here, this is a joke. Obviously no one bothered testing. Looks to me like a issue with activation - iCloud access is offline as well as the signal and touchid
no chance of restoring via iTunes don't have a pc or Mac - that's the point of iCloud..
How are you able to download these updates? I have an 80mb connection and all updates (I've tried about 10 different sources) are taking over a day to download. Getting seriously ****** off now!
Can anyone give me a torrent link for iOS 8 on the 6Plus? Or a quick download link? I have tried iTunes as well btw...
There is an article on Apple Insider about that.
Took me about 25 minutes to download it on a 13Mbps connection. You may have other issues.

iOS 8.0.1 was pulled by Apple because of problems with cellular service and touch ID. You must have downloaded it just before it was pulled, so it will not verify.
Well,
I downloaded iOS 8.0 and forced an upgrade following the instructions in the latter portion of this discussion and my phone is back. Cell and touch ID. But, in my 25 years of using Apple products I have never experienced such a complete lack of attention to detail from them. I now have to think twice before clicking on an update and check with Macrumors, 9to5 mac, etc to see if something is wrong with an update before I install it.
Apple, we hold you to a higher standard!
Recovery mode worked for me.
1. Turn iPhone OFF and disconnect from USB
2. Hold Home button
3. Connect USB cable
4. Continue Holding Home button until recovery mode icon appears
5. Click Restore
6. 8.0 will be downloaded and installed
7. Finish Restore and you should be up and running
