I had the same exact issue! Apple does not cheaply make their devices, but yes sometimes they will have defects or issues. Some on apples side some on the users side. If you have dropped your phone recently or it has been jostled in any way, the connectors up in the earpiece could have possibly come loose resulting in no sound. If you are a "tech savvy" person like me this is an easy fix. To fix this issue, you just need to, open the phone take the screen off then the earpiece and make sure the connector right above the little speaker is clean and firmly connected. But if you are not exactly "tech savvy", then I would look up a disassembley/ reassembly of an iPhone 6 screen on YouTube. And if that's too complicated for you, then I would recommend taking the phone into a repair shop or expirienced friend to fix your iPhone. I did this and it worked like a charm hope it does for you too!

Ps: I know this question was asked in 2014 and it's 2017, but this should help people currently having this issue solve it.

Have you read this thread 'cuz solutions have been given? I had the same problem yesterday (11/21/2014) and luckily was able to solve. This is one from "Smjdel" which explains the problem and gives a solution. This is what he wrote "....WHen you try to adjust the volume, does it say ringer or headphones on the screen? If it says headphones, something is stuck in the jack and your phone thinks you have headphones plugged in. Speaker will work. use compressed air to clean it. Worked like a charm with my iphone 6 plus. Don't try to stick your headphones in then pull them out; could make it worse. Hopefully this will solve the issue!..."

I actually applied air and also plugged in the headphones in and out a few times until I could I could see "ringer" on the screen. It seems to be a problem with quite some people so lets see if Apple comes clean and addresses the problem. I know exactly how you feel and it su...s. Good Luck!

Well mine shows ringer.. My earphone doesn't work now.. It was working before.. Infact I can't even send voice message through whatsapp. Just found it.. I guess I have to wait till Monday to call them.. I though the earphone id faulty.. But checked with other devices.. The earphone works fine.. The mic is gone.. Today is only the 3rd day.. 😟

Ear speaker and audio headphones stopped working on new iphone 6 (last remarkable thing I did was turn on/off the Do not disturb setting?). Reset, volume changes and blowing out headphone socket had no effect. Music only played through i.phone loudspeakers, not headphones. I plugged in headphones repeatedly and nothing changed. Finally plugged in apple headset and played music ok through them, then ear speaker etc started working as normal.

I had a brand new iPhone 6, white, 64GB, and the same thing happened to me. Activated it on 26-Dec-2014, and it broke on 29-Dec-2014.

Making a phone call, you couldn't hear anything on the earpiece and they can't hear you on the mic. Switch to speakerphone, and you can hear them, but they can't hear you. Bluetooth worked fine.

Playing music, the sound came out the speaker. Plug in headphones, nothing changes, sound still comes out the speaker. Didn't do any better with Apple headphones. Cleaned out the earphone hole with an air compressor, no difference.

Took it to Apple, they tried "Reset All Settings", but it didn't help. Gave me a replacement immediately, no trouble. Thank you Apple for taking care of this so promptly and professionally! I hope this next one is better.

BTW, we also got another iPhone 6 and an iPhone 6 plus at the same time, and the other 2 are still working fine so far.

Mine said "headphones" when I toggled the volume button on the display and sure enough I blasted it with compressed air and "Bingo" it fixed it. Brilliant

I would suggest this to anyone having this problem first, could be just something caught in the headphone jack, easy fix, then read-on and hopefully you get answers. That's for the tip!!!!!!!!! Love the internet community and love/hate these fu...ing phones.......

All,

It ***** but I can confirm that if you have an issue with the speaker phone you may want to first check when clicking the volume adjust that it says headphones. If so, you'll need to jam your head phone jack in there about 10x and all should be good.

Called Apple and they too recommended the above. Thanks to smjdel who recommended this. Worked like a charm.

My iPhone 6 had this same problem after I had it in my pocket while shoveling snow. It turns out there was water and condensation in the headphone speaker, and that was what was causing the phone to think there were headphones in. After putting in and pulling out the headphones I saw water droplets that were coming out, and soon the problem was fixed! 🙂

I was having the same issue. In my case, I thought I'd be savvy and use the screen protector/ plastic that came with the phone instead of buying a new screen protector. That plastic slip covers the speaker at the top of the phone making calls very quiet! So my advice to you is to make sure you don't have a piece of plastic covering the speaker at the top by the front camera!
