if you are using iPhone 6 then blow air in sim jacket as water sensor is installed here. It should be dry before use and put your cell in rice for at least 12-36 hours if cell fell in water. i was using my cell while I'm doing workouts and suddenly after some time same issue with my cell as well. Calls are only listen while on speaker or using headphones and instead of ringer it shows headphones even headphones not attached. Speaker only work when play ring tone in sound settings. Please blow air in SIM jacket area if problem solve then right otherwise open your cell phone by opening casing and clean sensor install near sim jacket. It will solve your issue.

I just had this happen to me. My phone thought something was plugged into the headphone jack. I tried using compressed air to clean it out, no luck. Tried cleaning it with a very thin piece of plastic, no joy. Plugged in my headphones, then unplugged them and the problem was gone instantly. Think the phone just goofed up and needed a plug in/plug out refresh.

I just had the same problem, but the solution to the problem was different. Somehow the phone was still connected to an external speaker through Bluetooth although I wasn't even in the proximity of the Bluetooth device. Rebooting the phone didn't solve the problem either. Connecting and disconnection to the Bluetooth speaker solved the problem.

SOLVED

Okey all, listen carefully the solution. It's basically weird and Apple must solve this issue. because it's not headache of the end user to do take care of this method what I am going to explain.

It's all about your contact list. the format of your google sync account and/or yahoo contact list account sync causing some strange issue with the iphone especially when you using some calling app. what my alab fellow did and with confidant is, he erased the phone, then singed in to icloud to sync my contact list. then google contact list sync. and then erase all app even the build in one except the notes app. and then backup in icloud and erase the phone again.

after coming back home, I also did more precise things. I stopped Google and yahoo contact list sync and kept only the icloud one. I directly go to google account on website, there it provides to merge the duplicate contacts. I did all that. then export the list into vcf format and then I singed in to icloud web account and imported all contact list there. and then manually I checked each and deleted unwanted/ambiguous names/numbers. also there were some names with smiles and special chars that may cause the format conflict issue.

Believe me It's 3 weeks now and never encountered with the same issue. otherwise I already got one mobile replaced and the 2nd one had same issue for 3-4 time even after restore and erase until I did this.

Hope this thing will end this issue and Apple must take care of this contact list conflict issue.

Thanks, this worked for me on iOS 10.2.1. I noticed an increase in ear speaker volume whereas before it was barely audible.

Detailed steps:

1. Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing Devices

2. Enable hearing aid mode

3. Make/receive phone call (unsure if this step is necessary; note volume will not be fixed yet) and hang up

4. Disable hearing aid mode

5. Go back to Hearing section in Accessibility

6. Enable phone noise cancellation

My problems started when I upgraded IOS. Rebooting had no effect. I had luck following the suggestion to activate General > Accessibility > Hearing Devices > Hearing Aid Mode and then turn it back off. The phone started working normally again for me after that and I haven't had any further problems. Apple does indeed suck at figuring this stuff out and helping people with their problems.

Don’t worry. Please follow below tips and check if it works:

iPhone 7 is a wonderful smart phone, mostly people purchase this phone because the less chances of defect, but if you are getting this issue in you new iPhone 7 then calm down you have your phone under Gaurantee.

To save your time you can try following steps, but I would not suggest you mess with its hardware:

1. Check the Mute Button is disabled.

2. Check your headphones in other phone with other phone if they are working or
not.

3. Restart iPhone 7

4. Rif nothing above is working then try to restore all settings

5. One last option is to repair the OS.

If nothing works then get to iPhone repair center or get free quotes from any expert.

I know the question has long since been resolved. But I had a similar issue with not being able to hear when making and receiving phone calls unless I put the phone on speaker with my iPhone 6s Plus. And tried to fix the problem myself and ended up voiding the warranty because I damaged the ports on the bottom and it cost me $150 via my phone insurance with Asurion. So if anyone has this issue I'd highly recommend calling your phone carrier and see if it can be replaced under warranty instead of trying to fix yourself.

Hi, just wanted to thank you for the tip. Indeed it looks like a contacts / calendar conflict issue between Google account and Apple account contacts synchronization. Because I have no Iphone contacts (just moved from Android to Iphone) I have disabled the cloud synchronization for contacts and calendar and it worked.

Note: phone freezes after I have disable contacts so I guess it did not like my approach 🙂

I will see how long it takes, yesterday I did another fix from this forum (while receiving a call on speaker I have started music on the phone in the same time. After that plugged the headphones and it worked but not for long - this was fix for jack issue however I think is software issue as it turn out)

I will get back here if needed to update if is the case (hope not).
