Unfamiliar Apple ID when updating *******

I just got my new iPhone 6 Plus. I backed up my old iPhone to the cloud, then turned on the new phone. I entered by Apple ID and selected to restore from the backup I had just created.

While activating, it asked me to enter my password for an iTunes account ******* I have never seen that address before. After searching online for this email address, I found one Spanish forum in which someone says they have had the same issue. 163.com is a Chinese site and I was able to find posts from someone using this exact email address, but nothing of value.

I'm now concerned for my privacy. I obviously skipped this step and didn't enter the password for this address, but my question is how did this address get associated with my phone to begin with, and what programs were on my phone that were linked to this account.

I dont see how thar can be. The phone was bought from a national wireless provider, sprint, brand new still in the plastic wrapping around the box

1. It was a return

2..Do you really believe the Apple manufacturing partners are the only companies in the world capable of shrink wrapping an iPhone box😁

Just posting this to register another occurrence of this.

I bought a brand new shrink wrapped iPad Mini from Amazon. Tried to restore from backup and it asked for the password to iTunes account:

As someone pointed out above, the message can be ignored and the device can be restored successfully. However, for old cronies or those less technically savvie, it could be very confusing.

Clearly some kind of issue at Apple's end.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your response which is similar to one or two others. I'm not convinced though that this is the answer. My iPad was shrink wrapped and the screen protector was fully in place. I'm as sure as I can be that the device hasn't been opened or used by anyone else.

I have a number of devices and backups on iCloud and I was only prompted for the password for this unknown account when I selected one particular backup.

This is either an issue with the backup I was trying to use or it's some other "confusion" at Apple's side.

I'm certain that it's not to do with the physical device.
