iPad Air since iOS 8: Apps not updating and downloading no longer possible. Fix?

This problem only really started in the past couple days. I can no longer update apps, cannot download books from the store in the books app and cannot download newspapers in my newsstand. Also, my Adobe reader for iPad open but shows a blank page for 15 seconds before closing and returning to my iPad home screen.

Previous to this, the first few days of iOS 8 did not give me problems, though I had not yet tested all of the above items but apps updated easily for first few days (until 22 sept). Is there a fix?

(A) Try reset iPad

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

Note: Data will not be affected.

(B) Try reset all settings

Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings

Note: Data will not be affected but settings for Wi-Fi, FaceTime, Message, Home Sharing will be reset

I think I may have found a solution. Under Settings -> General -> Usage under the Storage section I discovered a Test Screen icon with no app name. I selected the no name app and deleted the data. i received a message to the effect Data for app (null) will be deleted. I confirmed the delete and the restarted the iPad and was able to install apps from the App Store again. Hope this helps.

To provide an update to readers here:

Note that as I report these problems, I am running iOS 7.1.2 on my iPad Air after having installed 8.0 then downgraded back to 7.1.2.

As stated yesterday, my Videos app no longer opens at all. It flashed a screen as if it is thinking about opening then snaps back to my home screen. Now, after a couple days of one of my newspaper subscriptions in newsstand working just fine, suddenly today, it no longer downloads. It hangs at the start of the download process just like it did when I started having problems on iOS 8. I followed earlier advice on here of deleting WSJ app and did a reset but nothing happened. I have still been able to download app updates to more than a dozen or so that have had updates in the past few days, including one just moments ago.

I still have yet to see any sign that Apple is acknowledging this issue and not just thinking it is a couple people with issues. are they even trying to fix this?

JJust another observation I see on this thread......

earlier today, I saw a post saying that Apple told the user that the "clearing of the queue should solve the problem" shows that Apple is not acknowledging the problem and think it is just a few people having an issue. We need to hit twitter or FB or wherever else in order to try getting word out there because clearly this thread, with over 200 posts on it now, is not getting the message to Apple.

i Already posted something a couple days ago under my handle on twitter, @hathstauwk, and if you can, please find me and re-tweet my message about iOS. A couple people here did that a few days ago and I thank you but we need more people to re-tweet and put hashtags and such that might get some attention.

I emailed a few journalists about the issue (and provided a link to this thread) and the fact that nobody is talking about this issue in the media and Apple is not acknowledging this all in hope that one of them might write about it. I have not heard anything since.

Let's all put our reality hats on, ok. I'm pretty sure Apple have more pressing issues to deal with than responding to us all personally about the issue. Do you REALLY think they don't already know about this and have absolutely no interest in fixing this if it is a problem?

Apple gives you a mechanism for reporting bugs. I'm sure some have already done so so why don't you just use it if you're so concerned? Instead you're stirring up a media campaign? Send a bug report as has been recommended several times in this thread already.

I am not stirring up anything. I am trying to create awareness. Many issues are talked about in new articles in tech circles. I am not talking about having a feature article on CNN or BBC or anything like that. With so many other issues being talked about but not this, it gives the distinct impression that it is not out there. Add to that that even the folks at Apple support are telling a user that clearing a queue should solve it. If they are aware of the issue, they would not tell a user that clearing a queue is the solution (unless this support person is not aware either). Clearing a queue does not solve the issue. I have seen numerous people on here saying that it is a temporary fix that comes back.

hence, given that nobody outside this thread is talking about it, no news article of any kind, no simple acknowledgement from Apple (takes about a minute to post that they are aware of and are working on it) and that Apple support is claiming such a simple (yet false) 'solution' , I have my doubts that they are considering this as anything more than a mere few people with an issue so basically leaving it to the side.

Therefore, wider awareness is not a bad thing. Not a smear campaign but just so that more people see and may realize (if they do not know of this thread) that the issue exists and that in case others with the same issue out there can see and realize that it is not just their own iPad that is having a problem, then this is a useful means to gain such awareness and eventual solution from Apple.

I and many others have reported this to Apple and spent our time calling Apple to find representatives claiming to be unaware. I have no idea if Apple is aware of this but they certainly have not done anything about it. You think it's ok for hundreds, likely thousands of people having a crippled expensive device for now the 9th day? This from a company whose slogan is everything just works. While many people on this forum have been helpful in identifying and at least for now, solving the immediate problem, ypur response in defending Apple here borders on the bizarre.

Hi,

First of all, sorry for my poor English speaking...( i'm French ) hope you understand the sens of my words.

Here we go ;

Same issue here with an Iphone 5S since the Uppgrade of IOS 8.x, impossible to have the "hand" on the App Store, no App Update possible, no App downloading...etc...

As all of you, i do all the reboot, reset, reset from factory ( new Iphone on itunes etc...)...without any success !

Yesterday i read your posts about WALL STREET JOURNAL APP to remove....in my case i do not have this app, so I DELETED ALL MY APP'S ( before i take screen capture of all my Iphone Screen ) & check the App Store to see ! WELL DONE WORKING !!!, so i re_intall all of my app, by enter on the purchase area ( App Store / Update/ purchase/ not on this Iphone.....)

Finaly, i just want to mentioned, / APPLE LEAVE his customers turning in round since several's days without any communication & any suport or Help ( i call also the Apple Care )...

I am a bit tired to play to Beta tester....& i think, one day or another that type of customer's un_respect going to ended once, all of them going to feel lazy & tired as well to find alone THE solutions for let working them Devices like they have to.., & it's aslo the case with OSX ( Mavericks 1.9.5 by ex...)

Anyway, it's a shame.

Regards,

Cyril

Having the same issue on my iPhone5 - apps not updating and can't download new apps. I tried turning off automatic updates and restarting my phone and it looks like apps are trying to update but then not. I went from 22 down to 15, back up to 19 then down to 3. Some apps are now reset to new and I lost all history on them. Not impressed!!
