I usually prefer iCabMobile to Safari (I like to queue up 5 or 6 articles each in their own tabs by just tapping on the links). At any rate, the new version just came out and, of course, I couldn't load it on my iPad. So I deleted the apps in the App store update queue. Then rebooted. This usually does it.
But not this time.
So, on a hunch, I deleted the WSJ app and rebooted. That worked. I reinstalled the WSJ app and that is working.
Because some of you do not have the WSJ app, my guess is that this may not be the source of the bug. But the WSJ app is falling into it. One theory is that the problem is some kind of lock that gets set whenever downloading items to the iPad. They generally only allow us to download a single thing at one time. This suggests there must be a software lock that enforces this. One possibility is that some situation prevents that lock from freeing when a download finishes.
So.
If you're having this problem, you might look at anything you're downloading. It could be a magazine, automatic app or music downloads. Anything like that.
And I would caution you that just because a theory like this one sounds plausible, it still does not guarantee that it's our problem. It may still be something entirely different. But if we all keep posting our experiences we may just figure it out.
By the way, I just noticed that the App store app itself was just updated. If we're really lucky, this may solve our problems!
