I have the same question. I upgraded to IOS 8 last night and I have an iPad 2 3G (no gsm) with ATT and now it says "No Service" in the upper left hand corner and when I check the general settings > about, it says "Network Not Available" and "Cellular Data Number Unknown."

Problem Resolved

USA w/ Verizon 3G no cellular service and extremely slow response....cellular just said "searching..." Since iOS 8 upgrade.

i Did most all of the recommendations here with no luck. No change with each additional iOS release.

I tried Restore to Factory Settings>setup from backup with no luck same exact issues.

I did Restore to Factory Settings>setup as NEW iPad and this worked.

cellular connected immediately and has worked normal for a few days.

ALso, the overall system runs much smoother. Yes, I had to reinstall all my apps and renter passwords and such but the bonus was my iPad is now "clean" with all thelat st versions of only the apps I really use and no clutter. I freed up a ton of space. My docs are all on my Mac so I'll pull in whatever I need there.

good luck...I know this won't work for everyone.

This a followup post here for me. Last week Apple Support told me to replace the SIM card. This past Tuesday I received the new SIM card from AT&T. I called AT&T to activate it and the AT&T Tech Support person told me they get hundreds of calls on this issue a day and they have to refer them all to Apple. I told her about this Discussion and others and told her it's a significant issue. She agreed. She also told me it's definitely an iOS 8 issue (not a hardware issue) and that Apple needs to fix it.

I followed up with a call to Apple yesterday to tell them that their advice to replace the SIM card didn't work. The Apple Support Advisor told me that my device is out of warranty - that's when I let him have it. I told him that my iPad2 has worked flawlessly until iOS8.0.2 and that my problems and the problems of hundreds (if not more) iPad2 owners is not a hardware issue and that the original warranty does not apply here. He then escalated my issue to a Senior Advisor.

The Senior Apple Advisor was much more helpful. She agreed there is an issue with iOS8.0.2 on iPad2s, when asked if Apple is working on it she said she was certain they are, but wouldn't say for sure. I mentioned this Discussion and she said that Apple does read Apple Support Community Discussions. I asked if there was a new iOS version in the works and she didn't give me a definitive answer. I mentioned that one contributor here has been Beta Testing iOS8.1 - she didn't affirm or deny that there was an iOS8.1 in the works.

She set up a case number for me and said she would stay in touch with me until this is resolved. She also gave me her contact number so I can follow up with her.

I suggest everyone with this issue call Apple and ask to have your issue escalated to a Senior Advisor. The more noise we make the sooner this may get fixed. Look - it was only a day or two for iOS8.0.2 to replace 8.0.1 because iPhone 6's stopped working. My Low Level Advisor checked my history and it showed that yesterday's call to Apple was my 9th on this issue.

Make Noise everyone!

It is indeed Apples problem. iOS8 on iPad2 disconnects 3G service for me on ATT and I am not aware of any carrier not affects by this. I have been dealing with this now for at least 3 weeks. Until they FINALLY address this, do a restart every time it happens and you will be reconnected. Until the next time.

REstart on iPad is hold both the power and home buttons continuously until the screen goes dark then returns to life with the white apple.

I have spent so much time trying to resolve this issue on my Ipad 2. I have spoken with Apple Support twice and their Network Reset fix lasted for 12 hours. Then I made an appointment at the Genius Bar which was a total waste of time. After waiting over an hour and this was with a confirmed appointment, the tech told me that my options were to buy a refurbished Ipad at a reduced price from The Genius Bar or a new one at full cost. I asked to speak with a manager and she said they had "updated information" and changed out my SIM card, called AT&T to activate it - that lasted for less than 3 hours and then back to NO SERVICE. If you Google IOS 8.1 it appears that an update is going to be issued after October 20, 2014 and that is supposed to remedy some of the maladies created by 8 and 8.01 and 8.02. This website gives more information on the anticipated update : http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/10/14/ios-8-1-release-preview/

Let's just hope Apple gets it right this time.

I Checked out the article on ios8.2 but no reference to our problem. Sure hope Apple has addressed it. I have found a relatively way to restore cellular, I go to Settings-General-Language/Region select a different region, hit back, it starts search for cellular, go back and re select your region. Takes about 30 seconds and you are back on line. I sure hope they put out the fix next week because having to do anything other than turning on your iPad is unacceptable.
