Double/Echo Email Notification Sound (iPhone 6 Plus and iOS 8)

I have iCloud push email on my iPhone 6 Plus. When I get an email notification the sound seems to 'echo'. Another way to explain how it sounds is it sounds just like when I get a notification and my iPad and iPhone are right next to each other and both notifications come in at once. It did not do it with any of my past iPhones.

Here are the steps I've taken to isolate the problem.

  1. Going into mail.app in Notifications and turning off "allow notifications" will turn off all visual notifications, but still allow audio notifications (no doubling of audio notifications)
  2. Turning off just "notification sound" by choosing "none" for each account will result in no audio notifications at all.
  3. Doing a "Reset All Settings" does not correct the problem.

All other notification sounds are fine, it's just when I get an email.

Does anyone have the same issue? Any solution?

I have had the same issue ever since I got my iPhone 6 Plus in the first week it came out.

Very annoying!!!!!!

Now I am running iOS 8.1 and it still echoes. It seems to happen on the locked screen only. It also doesn't matter whether it is a sound from iTunes or one that comes with iOS.

I already left a feedback on the Apple page. Went to the Apple store and we reset settings but that didn't help either.

I might call Apple Care since there has to be fix for it. i never experienced this with any other iPhone or iOS.

I was able to make this go away but I have yet to see if my fix is permanent.

First, I went to Settings, General, Reset, Reset All Settings and reset all the settings on my phone. (To be truthful, I did this because I was having other issues.)

Next I went to Settings, Sounds, New Mail and chose Alert Tone None. This sets the New Mail Sounds to Vibrate Only.

Next I went to Settings, Notifications, Mail I set Allow Notifications to On. Then went in to each mail account and set the Notification Sound. This seems to have fixed the problem. At least it has for the last 30 mins.

Please forgive me because I'm not trying to sound super-negative.

I've done the exact same thing, even since iOS 8.1 and it hasn't helped long term. On the other hand I've found that almost any change you make in settings that has any connection at all to e-mail settings or sound settings will help you out for 30 minutes or more. Sometimes just going back to the home screen, quitting mail and then putting the phone down will help for 30 minutes or more.

This is a support community, and I'm trying to be supportive, that's why I'm pointing out that any potential solution should be tested out for 24-48 hours before declaring victory.. It's been mentioned over and over (yes by me but also by others) that nearly anything you do will solve the problem short term.

I really do hope the problem was solved for you. Some people never even had the problem to begin with, and others seem to have had it disappear. Maybe you're one of the lucky ones.

Okay I've really been putting off replying for 2 reasons. I've had a positive work around for the issue, and it's still a work around and Apple needs to fix the root problem. There has to be a software issue!!

I have an iphone 5 ios 8.1 and had the echo sound very regular since ios 8. Outlook.com email EAS push setup in apple email app.

I tried every suggested fix with nothing positive happening for any length of time. Usually within hours I was getting echo/double sounds for email.

This is what worked for me, now for at least 7 days and counting.

As others have mentioned there are 2 places that email sounds can be changed, in global sounds and under notifications for the emails app.

Here's what worked for me.

I found by turning off vibrate in Settings/Sounds and setting email sound to something other than what you have set in Notifications for email.

Set your email sounds and vibrate how you want them in Notifications. ( As long as the sound is not the one you have in global sounds)

You have to set to some kind of sound in global sounds or else notification sounds don't sound for emails even if set to something.

It seems in my case at least that by doing 2 things.Turn off vibrate in global sounds, and a different sound globally worked, at least so far!!

Very weird issue

Bottom line, there is a bug in the code. I have been on iOS8 since it was released. I receive plenty of emails through Microsoft Exchange in a day to not notice this issue. It is very annoying. Maybe this is an "enhancement" that Apple is pushing on us like taking out the camera roll. Hopefully they get it corrected soon. I have tried every possible "fix" and nothing has worked.
