iMessage and FaceTime not working on iPhone 6 iOS 8.0.2

I got an iPhone 6 a couple of days ago and I haven't been able to use iMessage and FaceTime properly since I bought it. The iMessage and FaceTime toggle areas are usually saying "waiting for activation" and sometimes when they activate and everything looks fine, I can send iMessages but I do not receive them at all. Text messages however, are working perfectly but I obviously didn't buy an iPhone to send sms. I have tried reseting network setting and the hard reboot but hey didn't work. Went to the apple store in southampton and even they couldn't help me at all. Can anyone help me here? I'm starting to panic.

I Had same problems messages and FaceTime was not activating. I am in India so, why not try what I did. steps

  1. Switch off iPhone, I have iPhone 6 and IOS 10.2.1
  2. once completely switched off take out sim from tray and re entry sim tray and start iPhone.
  3. ofcourse it will show no services, that's what we want, connect to wifi and activate messages and FaceTime. Worked for me.
  4. once messages and FaceTime are activated, switch off the iPhone completely.
  5. re insert sim in sim tray and restart the iphone normally. Let it latch on to the network. Let it do its stuff. Wait for a few seconds.
  6. once its completely connected to your sim network you will see your messages and FaceTime are working . To test messages send a SMS to yourself, I mean the sim number, it should work fine after that.

Well that's what I did. Hope it helps.

I keep getting "unable to contact the iMessage server" and "iMessage Activation could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again".

I have done a full restore twice and followed all of the support instructions, also checked all of the settings on the Apple support pages.

Safari also doesn't work. Every page has to be loaded twice and horizontal mode crashes the app every time.

Can we return these phones?

I had the same issue with Imessage the Iphone 6 Plus with *.2 that i bought today. THIS DID WORK, much to my suprise

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Turn off iMessage (and FaceTime)
Step 2: Turn on the Airplane mode. Wifi will be turned OFF automatically.
Step 3: Turn ON Wifi
Step 4: Head back to Messages and turn ON iMessage
Step 5: You’ll be prompted for your Apple ID if you haven’t added it yet. (else, you don’t get any notification)
Step 6: Now, head back to Settings and turn OFF Airplane mode.
Step 7: Mostly, you’ll be shown a notification that says ‘Your carrier may charge for SMS’ – Tap on OK
Step 8: If not, go to Messages, turn OFF iMessage and then turn it ON again.
Step 9: In a short while, iMessage should get activated.
Step 10: You’ll see a greyed out number and an email ID. A little later, the number should be checked and that’s it.

(This worked for us, seriously.)

This is a good suggestion, it shouldn't apply to me though since I only need mine as a data device (I always used two iPhones, one for cell and the other for data).

I will say, everyone I have dealt with at Apple has been great and I hope to have this resolved by Sunday. They really seem committed to helping me resolve.

Everything resolved now. I love my iPhone and the Apple company is amazing to deal with. Instead reaching someone in a foreign country that tells me how much they appreciate my business but is unable to solve anything, I got James at Apple who gave my his number, called when he said he would to follow-up and he stuck with me to get the device activated.

I LOVE Apple!!!
